Just saw it. Not bad. Not terribly great. Just good.
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialNo alien robots voiced by Leonard Nimoy hiding on the moon this time around? Pass.
Just saw it today, and my verdict is that it was pretty good, falling short of great. It managed to build up this great atmosphere... and then didn't adequately capitalize on it. Still, I applaud them for sticking to their guns with the "found footage" style; they did alright with it.
Also, according to a cursory conversation with a friend who is an amateur astronomer and NASA buff, both the US and Soviet Union toyed with secret moon landings disguised as satellite launches, but both believed the other side would be able to see through their bluff.
I admit nothing and regret less. "It's got the same name as a They Might Be Giants album!" It killed any last chances of me taking the movie seriously, which the trailer had already exterminated most of.

Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.Universe Man was behind it all.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/I was thinking of seeing either this or the debt? which would be better for a group outing?
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote? The Debt would probably be the better movie but for a group outing? Apollo 18.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/^ That said, it's a little more believable that the Soviets might be able to pull it off. Baikonur Cosmodrome is pretty much in the ass end of nowhere, and the Soviet Union wasn't exactly the model of a free and open society.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpThis sums up my overall view of it.
I was conflicted on the found footage aspect of Apollo 18.
On one hand, they managed to use it to good effect in places to build suspense.
On the other, the poor quality of film footage, which you would expect for a found footage movie set in the 70s, kept pulling me out of the film via annoyance.

More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Right, I already said it's something you would expect from a film set in that era, it just didn't work for me unfortunately.

Hope none of you have evergotten too close to moon rocks.
So to anyone who's already seen it, would you say the scares manage to be effective at least while you're watching it?
Ho, talk save us!Not really, the rock spiders are predictable once you figure out what they are. You could tell how it was going to end long before it happens Everyone Dies. Granted I did get a scare when the guy I thought was dead showed up at the Russian lander.
Afterwards, the movie left me asking myself why I even bothered to watch it. In effect, nothing was accomplished, since all three astronauts die, the third one most pointlessly.
If there's any consolation, there's the WMG that ties this movie in with the Transformers movies. Clearly NASA asked Optimus Prime to recover the tapes on his way back from finding Sentinel Prime. The moon spiders could even be Transformer insects with moon rock alt-modes, released onto the moon from the Ark.

So would that make them Go-Bot Rocklords?
You know....i actually like this movie
