I believe I asked thi before but...

What Breaks If I...

Limit every Wizard to one school (+Universal)?

Everything.

Next question please! Well, I mean, wizards can still be effective much of the time. Evocation wizards are mostly unchanged. But, like, necromancers are basically totally useless in some encounters (for instance).

Moreover, it's a question of why WOULD you?

Not to interject, but has this thread come to an agreement about how to split the page?

[up][up][up]The schools are not equal by any measures. Some schools (conjuration, transmutation) are extremely broad and strong and being restricted to only that school would still leave you a very functional wizard who retains a number of gamebreaking buttons. Others are highly specialized (abjuration, divination) or have crippling weak spots (enchantment, illusion, necromancy) and being restricted to those schools means your wizard can be useless in various situations.

Chalk me up as in support of Native Jovian's idea, for what its worth.

@Septimus: Y'mean all three four posters in it who were paying attention? :/

Far as me, splitting the settings into separate pages and editions into a trivia page sounds fine. I'm not sure this is the thread that's most interested in the game's wiki page, to be honest. You might be better off asking around the Trope Repair Shop or Short Term Projects or summat.

It seems me like you'd just never bother building a wizard in anything other than Transmutation or Conjuration, if you were limited to one school.

Evocation would still get some use, I'd imagine. And people more concerned with an interesting character than a good one would probably still use Illusion or Necromancy or any of the other schools. Depending on the campaign, a character who just had Divinations could be interesting.

I guess I'll scratch that off the list then, for quick and dirty ways of nerfing the Wizard.

Instead of nerfing wizards, why not just buff everyone else? :P

Okay, I'm D Ming pathfinder and was hoping to find some interesting/funny magic items.

There just aren't that many magic items for it, and those that ARE there are entirely combat oriented.

I have a few that I homebrewed for D&D 5th edition, but I'm not sure how many could be easily translated into Pathfinder. :/ Also, only two of them can really be useful outside of combat, and one of those is a healing item.

The Hypertext has a ginormous list of miscellaneous "Wondrous Items," though; that might help give you some ideas.

My ignorance might be showing here, but I feel like you're not planning for it to be used in battle, it's probably pretty easy to adapt something from a different system.

@Tomu: Well, there is the Awesome-tome. One of it's biggest things is buffing feats to the point that, at higher levels, they become competitive with spells of the same level. At least, in theory.

One of my own attempts was to create long winded feat trees, ala Exalted's charm trees, make feats more readily available and make feats for later levels just break "realism".

My two noncombat items might be translatable but overpowered in Pathfinder, for all I know. :/

At any rate, here's what I have written for them at the moment (They're kinda sorta works in progress):

  • Flute of Convalescence: This otherwise plain, wooden flute is painted with floral designs, which a DC 10 Int (Nature or Medicine) check reveals to be of various medicinal herbs. When played by someone with proficiency in Nature or Perform, the designs glow faintly. Property: As an action, you may make a DC 12 Cha (Nature or Perform) check to play the flute; on a success, each living creature within 25 feet who can hear you regains 4 hitpoints. On a failure, you cannot use the flute's ability again that day.
  • Blanket of Cowardice: This thin, blue blanket looks like it might have been stolen from a nursery. Property: While the blanket is draped over the head of a living creature (and most importantly covers the creature's eyes), the blanket and all of the creature's anatomy and equipment that does not protrude out from under the blanket become invisible (The creature under it can still see itself and the blanket, and the ground under its feet if it looks down). The blanket stops functioning if cut or torn, but may be mended if the hole is patched and a DC 18 Intelligence (Arcana) check made.

EDIT: I also invented a Knockoff Necklace of Fireballs, which I'm slightly proud of.

So given that there is no agreement on a split scheme, I'll have to turn elsewhere...

I am not really decided yet. I'll see whether there is more discussion here, if no, I'll look elsewhere and post about it here.

Anyone know any good 1st level modules?

I'm hoping for something to run in the city that can be adapted to cops. It's PF but D&D 3e in general has more going on.

You look happy, I can change that if you want.

Well, looking at it, I see the rumors that those who like 4e would find nothing they like there seem confirmed. I mean, very 3.75 ish I guess. Don't hate it. Don't love it. Some changes I like. Not sure how class balance work, haven't had time to look it over very closely.
