Ooh, that's a good call.
What's precedent ever done for us?Why the hell is this in OTC? That said, I'll throw in a rec for Darker Than Black
Angel Links is in the same universe as Outlaw Star, try that Barkey
EDIT: remember Blue Sub#6 try that too
He used to post on *chan and is a military guy, he can take borderline kiddy porn right Barkey-kun :3

I second FLCL. It's the craziest anime I've ever seen.
Power corrupts. Knowledge is Power. Study hard. Be evil.Something tells me that Barkey isn't one for Widget Series.
I kinda second Darker Than Black.
In all seriousness, Darker Than Black was decently entertaining and Monster is good, if slow at times.
Kill all math nerdsMonster is overrated. If you're going to watch it, don't worry about watching it before the other shows we've recommended.
I'm seconding Samurai Champloo. I'm pretty sure you would like it.
Panty And Stocking too maybe...it's a really weird show, but as someone said before, it's reminiscent of (vulgar) Western animation.
"Without a fairy, you're not even a real man!" ~ Mido from Ocarina of TimeFuck. No.
Stupidest damn show ever.
That being said, I forgot to mention that I've seen Samurai Champloo, FLCL, and Monster already. Monster I watched about half of with my roomate, and the first two were on back when I watched Adult Swim every night.
I'm not really a fan of the whole "Extraordinary powers" thing. Not a terribly huge fan of "GUIS LET'S HUNT DEMONS!" genre either. I know, I know, that kills like, half the stuff out there. Then when I say that I don't like loli, shota, or excessive cuteness, then the rest also goes out the window.

Paranoia Agent, then?
*Realizes he watches much less anime than the other OTC regulars*
*Realizes he doesn't have enough time to watch all the anime he wants*
*weeps*
Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.Has Starship Operators been mentioned yet? It's fairly hard sci-fi, no cutesy stuff, no demons or magical powers. A tv network sponsors a war (as a reality show) and... it's interesting.

i. hear. a. sound.^^ Oh, we can do psychological stuff? Pretty much anything by Satoshi Kon then.
I also don't watch that much anime. Not because I don't have the time, but because I've lost interest. Occasionally, I'll watch something that interests me.
"Without a fairy, you're not even a real man!" ~ Mido from Ocarina of Time@Barkey: Well I was going to list Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Ghost in the Shell, but you already got those down. Everyone else recommend Fist of the North Star and Beserk.
Afro Samurai; swords, guns, sex, and blood.
Well lets see here...
- Infinite Ryvius - if you liked Lord Of The Flies, this should be something you could like
- Blood+ - Vampires with the supernatural serial numbers filed off
- Noein - Time travel hijinks, a lovely art and very kinetic action scenes
- Irresponsible Captain Tylor - Hilarious space opera
- Rah Xephon - I know you said no mecha, but Rah Xephon isn't like most mecha shows. There is also the appeal of trying to figure out the jigsaw of a plot(it's intentional and put together well)
(Threadhop: I have watched some Anime way back in the day)
Another plug for Venus Wars. Also, Armitage III was okay. Akira is... weird. Good quality animation, though.
If you're looking for slapstick, Ranma 1/2 is lots of fun. I didn't think I'd like it at first, but I treated it like some sort of wierd sitcom and my opinion of it improved.
Star Blazers is fun, but my memories of it are faint, same with Robotech.
Saw a snippet of one (forget the name) where a JDF Aegis Destroyer goes back in time to WWII and have to make some hard decisions about who to help in the war, or just to try to stay out of the whole thing. Introduction clip had me riveted.
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.Slight tangent regarding FMA: *
How has no one mentioned Death Note yet?

Monster?
