Angel Links is in the same universe as Outlaw Star, try that Barkey

EDIT: remember Blue Sub#6 try that too

Don't think he'd appreciate the massive doses of lolicon fanservice. Not everyone's into that sort of thing.

He used to post on *chan and is a military guy, he can take borderline kiddy porn right Barkey-kun :3

I'm watching Planetes, and it's cool, but I really can't stand the girl, Tanabe. Can't fucking stand her idealistic bullshit she keeps spouting.

then you won't like some parts of Macross lol.

To narrow it down, do you prefer episodic, story arc or whole story anime?

I second FLCL. It's the craziest anime I've ever seen.

Also, Boku No Pico
And watch yourself some Kodomo No Jikan while you're at it. And go see Goro Goro Iki.

In all seriousness, Darker Than Black was decently entertaining and Monster is good, if slow at times.

Monster is overrated. If you're going to watch it, don't worry about watching it before the other shows we've recommended.

Utena seems kind of outside Barkey's current viewing tastes. - Iaculus
It's outside my normal viewing tastes as well, but it's still good. If I hadn't read Undocumented Features Symphony of the Sword, I doubt I'd have watched more than the first episode of Utena.

I'm seconding Samurai Champloo. I'm pretty sure you would like it.

Panty And Stocking too maybe...it's a really weird show, but as someone said before, it's reminiscent of (vulgar) Western animation.

S-Cry-Ed.

Fuck. No.

Stupidest damn show ever.

That being said, I forgot to mention that I've seen Samurai Champloo, FLCL, and Monster already. Monster I watched about half of with my roomate, and the first two were on back when I watched Adult Swim every night.

I'm not really a fan of the whole "Extraordinary powers" thing. Not a terribly huge fan of "GUIS LET'S HUNT DEMONS!" genre either. I know, I know, that kills like, half the stuff out there. Then when I say that I don't like loli, shota, or excessive cuteness, then the rest also goes out the window.

Has Starship Operators been mentioned yet? It's fairly hard sci-fi, no cutesy stuff, no demons or magical powers. A tv network sponsors a war (as a reality show) and... it's interesting. [lol]

^^ Oh, we can do psychological stuff? Pretty much anything by Satoshi Kon then.

I also don't watch that much anime. Not because I don't have the time, but because I've lost interest. Occasionally, I'll watch something that interests me.

@Barkey: Well I was going to list Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Ghost in the Shell, but you already got those down. Everyone else recommend Fist of the North Star and Beserk.

Afro Samurai; swords, guns, sex, and blood.

Well lets see here...

  • Infinite Ryvius - if you liked Lord Of The Flies, this should be something you could like
  • Blood+ - Vampires with the supernatural serial numbers filed off
  • Noein - Time travel hijinks, a lovely art and very kinetic action scenes
  • Irresponsible Captain Tylor - Hilarious space opera
  • Rah Xephon - I know you said no mecha, but Rah Xephon isn't like most mecha shows. There is also the appeal of trying to figure out the jigsaw of a plot(it's intentional and put together well)

(Threadhop: I have watched some Anime way back in the day)

Another plug for Venus Wars. Also, Armitage III was okay. Akira is... weird. Good quality animation, though.

If you're looking for slapstick, Ranma 1/2 is lots of fun. I didn't think I'd like it at first, but I treated it like some sort of wierd sitcom and my opinion of it improved.

Star Blazers is fun, but my memories of it are faint, same with Robotech.

Saw a snippet of one (forget the name) where a JDF Aegis Destroyer goes back in time to WWII and have to make some hard decisions about who to help in the war, or just to try to stay out of the whole thing. Introduction clip had me riveted.

Baccano- gangsters, alchemy, copious amounts of violence and the two most likable dingbats in the history of anime.

Durarara- Celtic folklore, gangs, violence in considerably smaller quantities then Baccano, flying vending machines, weaponized 4Chan and much awesomeness.
