Latest trailer confirmed that the time travel is a one way trip.

I find the premise of the show to be pretty ridiculous. What kind of Eco-disaster can only thwarted by time traveling that far back? Is it a "time travel creates alternate universes" system in play? Are they risking erasing the world as we ever knew? Or one of those "time is perfectly stable and there are never paradoxes" settings? Need more details on this, an Excuse Plot for Jurassic Park Colony can be awesome, it's looking like Voodoo Shark territory at the moment.

How bad is the environmental message going to be?

The worst thing is: it's on Fox. It's already dead. If it's terrible we only get to laugh at it for a season, maybe half or as much as two. If it's good then it's even worse, because we'll only get like 6-15 episodes of it.

I'm sold on this show, on basis that Colonel Quaritch is in it. Ok, so Lang character might possibly be less badass than Quaritch, but I'll still watch it hopefully for Lang to be badass.

[up]All I want is Lang VS T-Rex...fist fight is optional.

Wait. The premise is we are basically fucked so we send a group back in time to survive?

I am okay with this. Don't see how they will deal with atmosphere differences, but I am more than willing to look past that.

Please.

Personally I find the basic premise stupid. You fucked up the present so you send people, not to another planet or an alternate universe but to the past where they're guaranteed to screw up the timeline. Unless they turn out to be the reason dinosaurs went extinct. That would be cool.

But ultimately, just as with Terra 2 and Seaview DSV Spielberg will get bored and wander off and the series, even if it starts out well, will turn to mulch.

I think they're trying to fix it somehow by traveling back in time or some shit.

Who cares if it doesn't make sense, we can see Quaritch fight T-Rexes. And that's awesome.

[up]Fist fight damn it, FIST FIGHT! Knife fight will work well too.

I think the plan makes sense. It's not to save the future, just humanity.

I am willing to look past the atmosphere thing though.

Please.

I wonder how many they're sending back in time. Coz you need like at least a few hundred to create a long term genetically viable population. There's really no point in sending a few dozen people back if your goal is re-starting humanity.

I don't care how great Lang as a character is I'll never be able to see that guy as anyone but Colonel Quaritch. This is what he does on his leaves, he goes and punches dinosaurs.

[up] Well this does have time travel...so that theory is entirely valid. I like to picture him taming a T-Rex then taking it to Pandora...you know because he can. He then rides it while in his mech suit!

Ok, something has been bugging me since I first heard about this show: They have the technology to rip a whole through time, but not colonize other worlds?

I just figure colonizing off-world would be easier than stabilizing a time portal.

Here is the facebook write up I did

Terra Nova.....yeah its pretty much Avatar the series. I can see how this might turn out good but there are some VERY clumsy plot elements already going forward. The rock writing is horribly, horribly set up and the "meteorite iron" makes me want to kill something. Also what's with the majority of the Sixers being well...not white? Overall its okay...nothing great, hopefully it will improve with age.

Plot Predictions: The older daughter will be the one to "translate" the geometric writing. The Sixers are good guys/rebels. Skys parents aren't dead and she is a sixer spy Commander Taylor will get in a fist fight with a slasher.

Also my inner paleontologist is crying...slashers...REALLY!!!

I like the handwave about different time flows(or is it?) it at least sort of sets things up well. I also like how they can't control the time travel. Anyway its decent will watch again.

Personally I want to see more of "Earth 2149". I would like to possibly have two plot lines running in tandem. One focusing on the family, the importance of Terra Nova etc and one focusing on the future and figuring out who sent the Sixers.

Well I liked the episode. Missed the first half hour because I had forgotten it was on tonight, but the rest was good. Stephen Lang's character is badass, so I've nicknamed the series Col. Quaritch: The Series.

[up][up] The man survived 189 days ALONE in the past with dinosaurs. Make a fucking series out of THAT and I will be happy!

[up]Why couldn't they have used one of the many other dino species though? Gahh I guess this is what I get for being a Paleontology major....

I prefer the term "slasher" my self. Mostly because slang is much more likely than scientific names, period.

I did find the rifles rather silly. "Herpaderp, let's put a bull pup magazine right behind the scope/sight (no idea which it's supposed to be)". And the fact that the guns are useless. I'm tempted to go revive one of my old YKTTW's on that.

Yeah, they have future tech, why use useless bullshit? Why didn't they take some Barrett M 82 A1s back with them, loaded with Raufoss Mk 211 rounds?

That'd take a dinosaur down.

Seems like, much like in Avatar, they go for markedly less useful tech over "primitive" yet effective tech.
