Let's go. We need to make up for lost time. Fortunately, I was born around that area, so we'll make a shortcut. Unfortunately, we cannot stop Iccirus from being taken. Thus, our plan is to somehow avert Napoleon from charging through Route 9.

Understood, commander. Squad Captains, you heard him.

The group starts to cut a path straight through the forest towards Opelucid City.

-In a street-

<Gligar!Vlad: "But why can't you regain hope? I mean, things can get better, can't they?">

<Vlad: "But who's there to keep them from just getting messed up again?">

<Gligar!Vlad: "But... Do you really just want to leave things as they are?">

<Vlad: "(*shudder*) No...">

<Gligar!Vlad: "Then why can't we fight to make things better? To at least try to make a world where people and Pokemon won't do horrible things to others because they're scared...">

<Vlad: "But if we don't fight back hard enough, they'll kill us...">

<Gligar!Vlad: "So fight as hard as you need to. Just don't forget that in every person and Pokemon, even in the awful ones, there's some figment of normalcy in there... And we should at least try to help to coax it out... Even if we can't always succeed...">

<Vlad: "But what if it's all a lie? What if the 'normalness' is just a cover for all of the ugly things inside of us?">

<Gligar!Vlad: "But... You aren't those things, big me... You're sweet, you're kind, you're fun... Why can't you just be who you are instead of worrying about what you know you aren't?">

<Vlad: "... I'll try... But why don't I feel better?">

<Kit: "Just leave us be!">

-Both attempt to Brick Break the Hydriegon-

<Vlad: "Back off! We haven't done anything!">

-Tries X-Scissor on the Audino-

-The other mons present hastily fire a salvo of attacks off at the patrol-

Some hours ago, Goldenrod City, east side

(previous chronological post)

-A group of different species of Pokémon led by a Nidorina emerge from the manholes and backalleys near the Flower Shop and the Bike Shop. Instantly the forces invading the city try to enforce the curfew, and skirmishes trigger all around the east side of the city. Behind each group there are Noctowls and Ninetales hidden, standing ready to make a run for the center of the city-

-Another group emerges from a random house a couple of streets away from downtown, including a, Ursaring, two Machop, a Pinsir, a Haunter and a Golduck-

Maekrite (staring at the moon) — <How much time do we have?>

Golduck — <Apparently, not much...> — focuses psychic powers — <The patrol you talked about is coming thru that street...>

Ursaring (sniffs around) — <Can you feel what they are?>

Golduck — <No... they are well cloaked; I only know there are only three, no flyers...> — blinks, looks up — <Oh, and a group of Pawniard and Simisage led by an Excadrill assisting them from behind some windows... in that big building>

Nidorina Leader — <Right then... Terio, take the snipers!>

-A Nidorino bows and darts away-

Nidorina Leader — <You and you> — points to the Golduck and the Haunter — <we take care of that squad. Silent, be ready to walk in when we give the signal.>

-Maekrite and I both nod and continue walking down the alley, while the three Pokémon take the main street-

A couple of moments later, at a closed supermarket

-A random Pawniard walks from window to window across the vegetables area; a bit bored-

"Do we have to keep guard at this time? I thought the Mienfoo shift was ready."

-The Excadrill leader watches from a window besides a random lettuce cart-

-Suddenly a horn appears from the cart and pierces one of the Pokémon's arms; before he can even scream, he is bit in a leg and dragged inside the cart by a mysterious force-

"..I guess we'll have to wait only a little bit longer... the troops still have trouble at Azalea it seems..."

"It's the Slowpoke. I'm sure of it!"

"Those things? Oh please..."

"...Hey, where is the boss?"

"..."

"Aaaah!"

"You! Stop!"

"Where did they co-uuugh!"

"Eat my Solaaaack!"

Two minutes later

-From behind a window, a group of Nidorino make a clear signal-

Rommel!Deino — <I think I heard something... yes...>

Rommel!Conkledurr (stops and checks around) — <What direction?>

Rommel!Deino — <...From th~> — is Nigh Shaded by the Haunter.

-The Golduck and the Nidorina kick in from some bushes and attack the team; it's all a distraction however as as soon as the Conkledurr attempts charging an attack at the Golduck, strands of silk appear from the rooftops, immobilizing and muting the enemy squad in place-

Nidorina (to some Spinarak) — <Deal with them as you know. The rest of us, let's go!>

-The Haunter makes a signal for us, and from the behind street, Maekrite and me continue our walk towards an apparently abandoned building. The Spinarak stay behind, menacingly circling the trapped Pokémon...-

-Iron readies her Bonemerang to throw at the Hydreigon, but is suddenly tripped by a Grass Knot, dropping her bone-

Lanius!Eelektross: <Tsk, forgot the rest of us?>

-picks up the bone-

<Metal. Impressive. But also... magnetic. Ooh, a game! Fetch!>

-electromagnetically launches the bone down the street-

Iron Marrow: <Ack!> -turns to pursue bone, but notices the battle to her side-

Lanius!Hydreigon: <Now then...> -pins Kat to the ground with his foot-

<You ever see a Draco Meteor before? Mine will be your last...>

-Thinking-

<Kat: "So this is it... Oh well... At least I'll be with you two on the other side...">

<Kat: "Nngh... Bring it, lizard.">

-Struggling to feet-

<Kit: "CHAIN OF SPADES!">

-Notices Kat pinned down and fumbling furiously for her Pokeball-

"KAT!"

Iron Marrow: <NOT MY COUSIN YOU OVERGROWN WORM!>

-charges the Hydreigon with a rage-boosted Double Edge attack, sufficiently forceful to knock it off Kat-

Lanius!Hydreigon: <OOF!>

-regaining balance-

<You sneaky... ah, but your bone has to be lost in the scuffle by now...>

Lanius!Eelektross: -sporting trollface- <Such a pity...>

Iron Marrow: -scowling, and speaking with tranquil fury- <You threaten my kind, and taunt my honor... Oh, I have had it with you. You are going to replace my bone. NOW.>

-tackles the Hydreigon, knocking him out of range of specific narration-

Lanius!Hydreigon: <What are yAAAAAAAGH~!>

Lanius!Eelektross: <She's-!> -attempts to follow after the two-

-Meanwhile, the battle against the other peons has finally subsided-

-Watches a Hydreigon slowly hobble into the room, his right leg in a cast with bloodstains-

<Druddigon: "Yeah, you know what the General thinks of 'unnatural' medicine...">

-And is startled by the form of a Marowak entering the room-

<Marowak?: "...">

<Hydreigon: "(*whimper*) N-No! Pl-Please! D-Don't take m-my other one!">

<Marowak?: "(*snicker*)">

-The Marowak's form disappears to reveal the a Zorua and a Riolu-

<Refugee!Zorua: "Oh man, did you see that? That expression was priceless!">

<Refugee!Riolu: "Told ya I was reading him right!">

-Looking deeply embarassed-

<Hydreigon: "I-I-I-">

<Jaws: "Ugh... Can't you go play with some other Pokemon that aren't trying to recover from some injuries?">

<Refugee!Riolu: "Aww! But-">

-Are leered at by Jaws-

<Refugee!Zorua: "Eep!">

<Refugee!Riolu: "O-Okay! We're going!">

-The two quickly retreat out of the room-

<Ninjask: "Why didn't you just soil yourself, you coward?!">

<Drapion: "Um... Actually, now that you mention it...">

<Druddigon: "Ew.">

-The Hydreigon now looks utterly mortified-

<Jaws: "Ugh... At least we now know what happened to you...">

Wings: <Well... I think we all know that we can't keep them in the dark about it. We'll have to tell them, even if the truth may hurt. A lot.>

HotStuff: <... Yes, we do know that, Wings.>

Velvet: <Well... No use in worrying about it right now, let's just get to sleep and worry about it later.>

- The three Pokémon eventually fall asleep, with Wings staying awake the longest -
