It didn't really take that long for Lake to evolve either, did it?

-Meanwhile Inka lays in her box as she stares at Iggy-

Inka — <Hello back. I'm Inka,> — she growls, then corrects herself to a non-menacing tone — <Silent's starter. I guess you are that human's starter, too?> — makes some room — <Come here, let's sit and chat.>

-Hearing Tagg and Tracer-

Past!Me — How curious. I was sent here from Goldenrod University. They seemed kinda eager to send me here... — to Tracer — Where are you from, again?

Present!Tagg: Some things never change, do they?

Me? Professor Oak gave me a recommendation for this project, mainly because just battling got really boring.

-Looks around-

This place could use a bit of touching up though.

Muddy: <Yeah, for real.>

Present!Tagg: I didn't really feel like I had much purpose back then. Sure I was good at battling, but I wanted to do something more.

Oh. I was about to say, you're in the finals here and you're bored by it? But that makes a little more sense.

Past!Tracer: "Oh, I'm from Greater Celadon. My university's from just outside of Vermillion... I signed up for a couple research interships in the past, and a friend of mine mentioned that there was a new program starting up..."

-To Inka, not fully sure how to respond due to conflicting signals-

<Past!Iggy: "Uh... Yeah, I am...">

-Enters box-

<Past!Iggy: "It's kinda cozy in here... What's the box for?">

<Teala: "Wait, who did you have at this point, Tracer?">

"Iggy, Shaun, Vlad, Kat, Sonny, and I had gotten Audrey a while back..."

<Audrey: "Oh wow... I forgot what a dump these labs used to be...">

<Vlad: "But they were so much fun that way!">

<Sonny: "Da... And no one noticed when some loose change or other small objects disappeared...">

Inka — <After all we might have to live here for a couple of months before they let us do anything interesting, and this place already looks like a drag...> — tosses a paper ball to a nearby box.

Past!Me — So you got your recommendation from Oak? Let's see if old man knows what he is doing... — turns to Tracer — Someone particular recommended you too?

-Sees Inka messing around with the boxes-

— *sigh* I'll have to file the project for an habitat soon...

Hmm. I remember Professor Elm saying to me that Oak was always good at seeing potential in people. He obviously saw something in me when we first met, and looking at what's happened since then...He was right on the money.

Lake: -Watches Inka and Iggy.- <Heh, you and Inka look cute in there, Iggy.>

-To Past!Tagg-

Past!Tracer: "I'm currently pushing my fifth year."

-Noticing Muddy, while throwing paper balls-

<Past!Iggy: "Wait, he's only been trained for 6 years? But he's fully evolved!">

Past!Tracer: "Wait, so is this your starter, Tagg?"

-To Lake-

<Iggy: "Yep, those were some great times...">

<Milo: "Sonny used to play in the labs?">

<Kat: "Yes, weasel boy. He was young once, too...">

<Sonny: "I wasn't that young!">

Past!Tracer: "Oh, one of my friends has a position at Oak's lab... I learned about this program through her."

Present!Tagg: Oh, I remember this part.

Well, not quite, Muddy's not my first starter. My first starter is now a Venusaur. Nowadays he just relaxes over at Oak's lab with the rest of my Kanto and Johto Pokemon.

Muddy: <I've been with Tagg for three, and I evolved in only a few months back in Hoenn. We're rather active, you see.>

Lake: <I can imagine so.> -Thinks.- <Hmm...This was four years ago this month, right? Right about now, I was about a month old. I was also still at the Ranch with my family. I didn't meet Luke until the next June. Incidentally, that was on my First Birthday.>

Wait, WHAT?!

Lake: <Oh...Did I not mention that?>

I did a lot of work for regional professors growing up, which helps a lot.

Muddy: -To Past!Iggy- <Yeah, we're competitive. Tagg here has all the Indigo and Hoenn League badges. We've seen things that you couldn't even imagine.>

- HotStuff and I are still quietly paying attention to the story, and what the others are talking about, neither of us feeling that we really have anything to contribute -

In terms of the GC Grand Prize, it's a secret. By the way, when the finals happen, I need to be here for the end of the match. That shouldn't be too big of a problem as long as it doesn't happen super late at night.

<Past!Iggy: "I'd imagine... Tracer and I have less than a quarter of the badges for the Indigo League... And we got them mostly on spur-of-the-moment impulses...">

<Iggy: "We still have them. We never did fight any gyms beyond those three...">

Past!Tracer: "Oh. Well that must have been convenient for you..."

"Speaking of which, I should probably consider stopping by Elm's lab if I ever take Silent up on that additional research for wild Johto starter populations..."

<Shaun: "How long has he been pestering you about that anyways?">

"It's been a few months..."

Present!Tagg: -Hears Tracer- <Yeah, and after that we've got the Hoenn starters to do.>

Yeah, it really was. Looking at ourselves, I wonder if the higher ups were saying, "Oak! Recruit teenagers with attitude!" or something like that. I'm not even old enough to vote yet. Then again, with that Red kid two years ago...
