-He gives her a soft handshake. His hands are calloused, but not from pickaxe or hammer.-

Dr. Orlandeau: Dr. Polnoch will be assisting us for the inevitable confrontation with the local authorities.

Mister Bateman: The ones that don't fly around and shoot lightning, I presume.

-Orlandeau can't contain a roll of the eyes. Bateman just gives a dry, old man chuckle.-

Verdant Cavern, past

-Both Bites really hurt, and Steely Dan flinches, leaving him unable to attack.-

-Waddles yelps and fires another Flamethrower-

-Alonya smirks-

Alonya: Orlandeau is correct. I will be making special sure any pesky government officials won't be getting in our way. I also do research into precursor technologies and supernatural powers that would be useful to Team Iron - on the side, of course.

Mimmy: Ah! My name is Mimmy.

Joseph: We just caught Cutieflies!

Hajime: "Cutiefly? Oh, guessing those are you two?"

-the two Cutieflies look at Hajime with suspicious eyes-

Alisa: <Tell me your premises.>

Heidi: <Ignore her.>

Hajime: "Uh... what do you mean by premises in this sense?"

Team Iron Auxiliary Base

Dr. Orlandeau: Dr. Bunansa's theory is that there must be some technology in this area, if nothing else then in response to the Ultra Wormhole.

Mister Bateman: Oh my. I don't know much about the wormhole, but I do know that the Wormhole has been around for a shockingly long time, if the damage to some of the local old growth is anything to go by.

Dr. Orlandeau: Anyway, Mister Bateman - you are dismissed. Be careful of those corporate sharks, though.

-A thin smile comes across the little man's face.-

Mister Bateman: Trust me, Bartholomew. The older a rosebush, the more barbed the stem. I'll be fine.

Dr. Orlandeau: And Dr. Polnoch - we have thankfully been under notice so far, but there is an operation on Melemele that has the potential to cause noise. I'll keep my eye on it for the time being, but I would appreciate it if you remained in a position of... rapid response.

Alisa: <Your philosophies.>

-Alonya furrows her brow, then gives an unnerving grin-

Alonya: Oh, them. I'll keep an eye on that little problem.

-and she literally melts into the shadows-

Hajime: "Well, not sure how much these constitute as philosophies, but 'I want to surround myself in nice smelling flowers,' 'weirdness can be fun in decent sized doses,' 'seeing the world is a fun experience,' 'Pokemon training is a partnership,' 'avoiding conflict's often easier than getting involved,' and 'being a hero is simultaneously intriguing and terrifying'."

Alisa: <...at least you're not a communist.>

Joseph: Sorry.

Mimmy: These are our Cutieflies. Mine's named Heidi, and his is named Alisa.

Joseph: They're handfuls. ^^;

Hajime: "Uh... yeah, I can see that..."

-Meanwhile, a Cottonee's head pops up among the flowers-

Joseph: Yeah, I-GAAAAAAAAAAAAASP

-points at the Cottonee-

Hajime: "...Wait, wha-"

"Oh, cool, Cottonee."

Cottonee: <Aah!>

-He dives below the flowers-

-Orlandeau works his jaw for a moment before returning to his office.-

-Obscurics. Hrm. Why would Cid send him an Obscuric, and not Previa? Previa usually loves being able to hide in shadows.-

-... And he hates other things that can hide from him. Ah. That's right.-

-... Paranoid little bastard. Whatever. Having someone else to keep an eye on field studies is important.-

Iki Town

-The glow fades, and Calliope is there, looking much more... frilly.-

Scarlette: Oh, wow, I... didn't expect you to evolve so quickly...

Calliope: <Well, I did! And I am ready for whatever the old man throws at me next!>

-Hala chuckles-

Hala: Always a pleasure to see the evolution of a Pokemon I provide to trainers. A sure sign of growth for both!

Hala: Now, we'll just have to see if that growth is enough, won't we?

Crabrawler: <I'm gonna knock yer teeth in!>

-Hala crosses his arms in front of his chest, displaying a Z-Ring with an orange crystal attached to the flat face of it. The Crabrawler copies the crossed arm pose.-

Hala: Even if you've chosen not to take a Z-Ring for your Island Challenge, it is my duty as a Kahuna and a leader of a Grand Trial to not go easy on you. This is a power you must learn to defend against even if you do not use it yourself!

-Hala performs a series of rapid punches in the air. His and the Crabrawler's Auras flare up, so much that even though Tagg can sense it properly, even the non-Aura-sensitive audience members can feel the thickness in the air.-

Scarlette: Oh, no... Calliope, use Baby Doll Eyes! You need to weaken what's coming up!

Hala: Crabrawler! All Out Pummeling!

-As the Crabrawler prepares to mimic Hala's movements, Calliope gives it a very quick, cutesy look. The Crabrawler falters, before shaking its head and following through with the motions.-

-With each rapid punch in the air, an orange fist construct comes rocketing off of the Crabrawler's claws, brutally beating down Calliope before each one dissipates, only to be followed by another, then another, then another. Just when it seems to end, the Crabrawler launches a final Aura blast, nearly knocking Calliope off the stage.-

-But it doesn't.-

Calliope: <Oof... that's gonna hurt in the morning...>

-He pulls himself back up, grinning. The Crabrawler groans, catching his breath from the exhausting attack.-

Calliope: <But I'm not out! I've still got plenty of fight left in me!>

-Scarlette beams. Hala chuckles quietly, as if somewhat amused.-

Scarlette: Yeah! Go Calliope! Use Disarming Voice!

-Calliope starts singing, and the Crabrawler winces.-

Crabrawler: <Ugh, that was supposed to be the part where you surrendered!>

Hala: Power Up Punch!

Crabrawler: <Maybe this time you will!>

-The Crabrawler skitters forward and swings at Calliope, aiming for the jaw. It connects, leaving Calliope weak, but still conscious and very determined.-

Calliope: <It's just not enough~>

-He smirks, and then proceeds to scream a final Disarming Voice right in the Crabrawler's face.-

-Hala blinks, then chuckles.-

Hala: Well, looks like you did it after all. And with only two team members, no less!

Calliope: <Well, of course we did, because I'm awesome!>

-Scarlette blinks a couple times, before finally relaxing.-

Scarlette: Whew... can't believe I just did that. That, uh, we just did that.

Hala: Well, of course. I'm proud to officially say that you, Scarlette Anemos, have successfully completed your first Grand Trial!

-From the sidelines, Rose is cheering.-

Rose: Whooooo! You go, Scarlette! Always knew you had it in you!

-Scarlette smiles, and shakes Hala's hand before going to the sidelines and letting Gus out to heal him. Hala, meanwhile, directs his attention to Rose.-

Hala: Now, we will need a brief break before we continue, but you were planning on taking your Grand Trial as well, were you not?

-Rose grins and nods-

Rose: Of course. Ready when you are.

Ultra Space, Æther Outpost [Day 0, 23:18]

Volta: >...What is it?

>An Ultra Beast?

>No... It doesn't check what i've read.

>That's risky, but...

>How about we go see what is it?

He grins a bit.

>It might just be a Fallen Pokemon, after all.

Tapu Village, Past

Fuego: -tries to dodge the Ice Ball, but trips and gets hit-

<Oof!>

-he gets the wind knocked out of him, but the attack is somewhat less super-effective than usual...-

<Tahk... duuuhs!>

-as he gasps, he tosses another Bonemerang at the Sandshrew-

-the Sandshrew turns around, and rolls toward Fuego for another Ice Ball attack-

Sandshrew♂: <Take this!>

Celeste: <This guy is weird.>

-Fuego attempts to jump over the rolling Sandshrew-

-Soujin nods-

Soujin: "Right, yeah."

Orlok: <Ooh, I'll go check!>

-He flies over before Soujin has a chance to protest-

-As he gets closer, the Pokemon which is now more clearly visible to him to be a Heatmor reacts with a bit of surprise-

Orlok: <Heya!>

Heatmor: <A... Zubat? You get stuck here too?>

Connie: <...So, that's one of those Z-Moves.>

<Will be interesting if we get to use one of them myself...>

Verdant Cavern, past

(The Totem Raticate is starting to look slightly frazzled, but is very much still standing.)

Totem Gumshoos: <Mwahahaha! Gaze in fear as I exploit your helplessness, puny Litten!>

Totem Raticate: <aaaaa that doesn't work for me what do I saaay>

-After the Cottonee ducks down, Hajime decides to get closer-

Cottonee: <Uh, hey, stand back! Don't want me to Mega Drain you, do you?>

Hajime: "Uh, wait

Cottonee: <...Wait, you understood->

<I mean, yeah! Wait, no! You need to catch me first!>

Hajime: "Uh, okay, guess I'll try that..."

-Hajime sends out Horst-

Horst: <Heya!>

Cottonee: <Uh, hi...>

Horst: <Take this!>

-He sprays a Fairy Wind at the Cottonee-

Cottonee: <Oof... Hey, I can do that too!>

-He sprays a Fairy Wind in return-

Horst: <Ngh...>

-After another pair of Fairy Winds, Horst is looking a bit weak and Hajime stops him-

Hajime: "Okay, now..."

-He throws a Great Ball at the Cottonee, who is sucked in-

-The ball shakes once-

-Twice-

-Click-

Hajime: "Yay, got him!"

Horst: <Yay!>

<...Huh?>

-Around this point, Horst begins to glow-

-His leaves converge into a flower on top of his head as he grows slightly larger-

-When the light fades, he is a Skiploom-

Hajime: "Oh, nice!"

Skiploom!Horst: <Yeah!>

Volta: approaching >So it's a Heatmore...

-Soujin and Beat have come over in time-

-Hajime releases the Cottonee-

Cottonee: <Hm, so I'm part of your team now, huh?>

Horst: <Yeah! Welcome!>

Hajime: "Hm... you have anything you want to go by?"

Cottonee: <Mmm...>

<Whatever's good.>

Hajime: "Alright, uh..."

-He gets out his PokeNav and starts looking something up-

Hajime: "How does 'Barometz' sound?"

Barometz: <Good by me.>

Hajime: "Great, welcome to the team, then, Barometz!"
