-This is promptly followed by Grodus giving no fucks and Meteor Mashing him in the face a Record Scratch as Nico looks down at the staff in alarm-

...Waitaminute, how the hell do I use this thing?!

Arika: ...

Everyone! Keep Grodus occupied while Nico figures out how the hell to use that thing!

-All mons on the field resume their assault, except Gorga who just fully came to shortly before and is staring at the spectacle in confusion-

-Nico, meanwhile, fiddles with the staff and notices some resonance when he inspects it psychically-

Nico: Okay, this baby seems to run on psychic energy...

-Tries to channel psychic energy into it in a way he thinks will free Squealer... Only to send out a steel-blue beam at Gorga that transforms her into a Beldum-

Beldum!Gorga: <HEY!>

Nico: ...Whoops, I guess he had it set to "Real Beldum Ending". ._.

-Grodus, not expecting his staff to get stolen, is taken off guard-

Maggie: "Yes!"

Squealer: <You can do it, Nico! Harness your inner rock wizard!>

Mega!Volcamel: <Looks like we've> -sniffs- <got this now!>

-She attacks with a Flamethrower while Banquo uses a Shadow Sneak-

-Grodus responds to the attacks by shaking the ground with another Earthquake-

-Pudge and Mozilla are dropped to the red by the Earthquake but everyone keeps trying to continue distracting Grodus-

-Meanwhile, Nico hears Squealer...-

-...And grins-

Nico: ...Alright then. Let's rock.

-Nico twirls the staff, slams it into the ground, and charges it with psychic energy...-

-Only for it to don him in robes not unlike Grodus'-

...Well. At least it kinda fits the "rock wizard" part. And explains where he gets changes of clothes.

-Tries reading the staff carefully "telepathically"-

OK... Getting an idea of how this thing works...

-Points it at Squealer and focuses, only for the staff to fire a Flamethrower, though fortunately it's rendered harmless by the barrier-

Hrm, no...

-Tries again only to get a Thunderbolt, and grimaces-

Dammit...

-Tries a third time only to get an Orb of Confusion effect-

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh.........

-He runs away from the battle going on-

-Grodus is about to do something, but notices Squealer is free and becomes very quiet-

-Nico might suddenly find himself one-arm-hugged from behind-

Maggie: "Thank you, Nico! Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!"

-Cracks his neck-

<So...Grodus, yeh? Where's yer trump now? And what's gonna stop me from poundin' yer face in?!>

...Wait. We did it! We freed Squealer!

-Hugs Maggie back-

-Everyone turns to admire the display (if Gorga and Mozilla not visibly), some cheering for Squealer's release as well-

-Grodus stays silent for a bit in response to Cass' comment-

-He uses Agility and bolts off down the stairs-

Nico: -blinks- OK, good, that's temporary...

-scans the staff again-

OK, seems this thing has a heal function... Kaguya, mind if I help you freshen everyone up this time?

Kaguya: -smies- <No problem.>

-They both Heal Pulse every mon on the field back into full health-

-Nico thumps the staff again and gazes at everyone in the room, including the standby crowd of X-Nauts, before gulping a bit and addressing them all-

Nico: ...Well guys, this is it. The final showdown against the ultimate evil. Sounds like something out of a video game, but This Is Reality, people.

Arika: -snerks a bit at that last line but lets Nico continue out of respect-

Nico: And... I know all of you - all of you - are scared. Especially all you X-Nauts, what with your leader going off the deep end and making this whole mess worse. And I feel all of you, because I'm scared out of my mind.

-His expression hardens and he thumps the staff harder-

But that doesn't mean we can't be brave. I've seen it all through my time in the J-Team, yet never quite realized it until recently, but... Being brave's not about having no fear like everyone thinks. Having no fear - or trying to - just makes you do stupid shit because you think you're unstoppable or something. Being brave is being scared as hell of what you want to do and doing it anyway. I've seen every member of the J-Team do it. I've seen every member of the little bit of it I run with - Umbra, Lina, Ammy, Robin-

-Gestures to Arika with the staff-

...And Arika right fucking here do it too.

Arika: -crosses her arms and smiles-

Nico: -gestures the staff to Kaguya, Bozaka, Gorga and Pudge- And from what I've seen and heard of what you guys have been through you've done it as well.

-All four mons smile as Nico turns to Maggie and gestures to her with the staff as well-

And Maggie... You've been doing it so much this whole adventure. Keep at it and we'll beat this thing. Together.

-Makes a sweeping motion with the staff to everyone else-

The rest of you... Being cowards is no longer an option. But you do have two options. You can be fearless...

...Or you can be brave.

I... don't know if I've ever been scared of what we've been up against like the others and I've gotten into a couple messes...

-she glances at her arm in a sling for a brief bit before looking back-

Granted, this whole time I've mostly been driven by fear of what'd happen with Squealer, so...

Mm... can't think about this now, we need to be ready if we're going to face Grodus together.

-Maggie gives a nod-

-The various defected X-Nauts all give each other looks and nod with conviction-

-Several candles are lit and a suit of armor that looks like it would fit the body of an Alakazam, with the head helmet lying at the feet of the body, is lying on the floor with some sort of faint Psychic Energy surrounding it-

Alouette: <Zis is ze end of ze road, zen?>

Cass: <Whatever it is, dat Vivian chick sure seems worked up about it.>

Maggie: "...You're still planning on doing this? Squealer's with us now. You don't have a vessel."

Grodus: <Hmph.>

<Like I said, I prepared for the eventuality that you would rescue that Emboar.>

Squealer: <Huh? I thought you needed me for this.>

Maggie: "I don't know how you're planning on bringing back the Shadow Queen without a vessel."

-Grodus does an eyebrow-raise equivalent-

Grodus: <Queen? I assure you the Shadow Ruler is no Queen.>

<And while it's true Squealer was the desired vessel for the Shadow Ruler for several reasons...>

<He's not the only vessel here.>

Maggie: "...What do you..."

"Grodus, do-"

Grodus: -cutting her off- <The one who has been sealed by the stars...>

-The candles surrounding the room change from red flames to purple Will-O-Wisps-

Grodus: <Shadow Ruler who sleeps in the coffin... Heed your new master and come forth!>

-The candles begin to flicker as Obscura empties out from the armor-

-An ethereal form drifts out with it and speaks in a language no one present would know-

-Which, for narration's convenience, will be transcribed as such-

Shadow Ruler: <...Cofa?>

Grodus: <Grant me the power to destroy human civilization!>

-The form flashes a smirk-

Shadow Ruler: <...Gri...>

-And rushes into Grodus, while the latter lets out some unpleasant sounds as Obscura swirls around him-

-Once it fades, Grodus' wardrobe is a bit more purple and black than before-

-When he speaks, his voice is distinctly different-

Sarah: Not well, unfortunately. Using so much Obscura through the sword was bad enough on his health, but now that he doesn't have that, he can't even control it in the first place and he keeps accidentally letting out huge bursts of the stuff. He's wearing the gloves Crewe gave us, the Obscura fabric ones, so he's not breaking anything anymore, but... it's taking a lot out of him. He's asleep more than he's awake, now.

-She smiles-

Sarah: I'm sure he'll be relieved to see you three, though, when he wakes up.
