I'm probably just going to be turning the EXP Share on or off depending on how I'm feeling at the moment.

Yeah sunmoon has a bit of a thing - generally lower count of routes but they're split in parts without dedicated names. And even grass patches without screen fade can have different encounter lists.

Arania just finished the second part of the Nuzlocke piece! My friend absolutely loved it and I like it too! The next two images will take a while longer for me to share. Arania was already working on this part when I shared the first one, but she hasn't been paid yet for the next, and she has a very long to-do list. (You can easily find said list on her website. Not sharing it here because I don't wanna get banned.)

This morning had mixed results, mostly good.

One one hand, out of all the cool Pokemon on Route 6 (I was hoping for Honedge or Oddish) I got stuck with a Sentret, which I called Furbrawl. Maybe his time to shine will come, but he's relegated to the PC box for now.

On the other hand, my Route 7 encounter was the Snorlax, and after a few stressful minutes I caught the thing, with Snoop Dogg playing the hero and paralyzing it, allowing me to catch it with a lucky Great Ball. Rice should prove a valuable addition to the squad, and I hope we will see a great many victories together. To make things even better, Snoop Dogg evolved as a result of the battle, giving me a Roselia to work with going forward, which is pretty great.

Blobby got hit with a Dragon Rage at exactly 40HP and is my first casualty. This is a huge blow to the team, and I didn't get the Connecting Cave encounter either.

At first I was wondering what Pokémon you could have possibly named Snoop Dog.

Then you said it evolved into Roselia and I was confused.

"Roselia isn't a dog, how is this even- OH."

I got the name through a wacky game of word association

With Blobby out I'm at a loss for progression. I lose access to Yawn and Poison Gas, and with those gone any semblance of strategy I have goes out the window until Rice picks up yawn, and even then I don't have any way to poison, when I had put Venoshock on Roselia to exploit it.

I should make use of the TM Potect I picked up

Also I'm now paranoid as all hell of randoms with coverage moves because I'll know they'll have them starting now. No one is safe...

Arright, naming session with the help of a good old friend RNG.

Tangela is granted name DOMINIKA, meaning "of the Lord". You know which one.
Bulbasaur is christened FABIUS, of ancient Roman origin, meaning bean. Ah, RNG.
Rattata shall become MAHAUT, of French "strength in battle".
Nidoran F gets SALLY. Which is derived from Hebrew for "noblewoman". Awyes, Nidoqueen calling.
And finally, RATBAT, being a fusion, gets a fusion of two names. First name is GABRIELLE, second is SVANA. So merging from good old Christian archangel and Nordic mythical princess. GABRANNA she shall be.

Now then, RIVAL BATTLE! .... Meeting his Pidgey while all my non-grass pokemon are low on HP or level wasn't a smart move.
DOMINIKA survived a critical Gust on 1 HP. TRULY SHE IS BLESSED.
Then comes his squirtmander. Who proceeds to spam some embers.
Fabius also hangs onto 1 last hitpoint from one, but with good old potion spam, he manages to prevail.

Finally, we advance to Route 2, catching a male Weedle. RNG blesses him with the name AQUILA, from Ancient Roman for eagle.
Aaand second catch is a female WEETATA. RNG gives us Imani, from Swahili for faith and Jing from chinese for...

"From Chinese 静 (jìng) meaning "quiet, still, gentle", 精 (jīng) meaning "essence, spirit", 晶 (jīng) meaning "clear, crystal" or 京 (jīng) meaning "capital city". Other characters can also form this name."
a lot of stuff. Arright then IMAING, of gentle faith. Checking her out from the box, she has poison sting, tail whip and string shot. Arright, up on the team; Aquila goes in the box.

Viridian Forest! Weedle goes out on dupe clause, MEOWDLE gets to stay. RNG gives us Anne, from deep Hebrew roots meaning favour and grace; and Marnie also from Hebrew for REJOICE.
Okay Annarnie, graceful rejoicing.
Second encounter is a random double battle so I say I get to pick. Between a KAKBAT and CATERBAT. Already having some weedles, I'll go for the caterpie fusion. Aand caught
RNG blesses us with hardcore Hallbjörn Chinwendu. First is erived from the Old Norse elements hallr "rock" and björn "bear"; second means "God owns life" in Igbo. Religious theme continues with CHIBJORN, GOD'S BEAR.

I lost a Hippopotas encounter I really could have used to my own stupidity sad

What are the rules regarding ingame trades? Is catching a Luvdisc in Cyllage, and then swapping it for the Steelix legal? On one hand, the Luvdisc is what techincally qualifies, on the other hand it would basically cause the Steelix to replace the Luvdisc, keeping me only having one pokemon listed for Cyllage City.

I've failed to catch the last two pokemon I really wanted (Meditite, Hippopotas) and caught two who I really didn't want (Solrock, Spoink), so the Steelix would be a godsend.

Hello tropers

Recently I put my hands on a 2ds and very obviously my first ever game was pokemon blue on the virtual console. Now Gen I I have done many times. So I thought "Let's make it a Nuzlocke"

Now I care little for being the very best, like no one ever was! So I decided to have a mission, an adventure hook. So the excuse plot is this, "Once upon a time in the region of Kanto in a small town lived a woman with her only child. They lived happy until one day she fell very sick. Nobody could find the source of her illness and she deteriorated fast. Only the power of the three legendary birds could restore her health and save her life. Thus her child started a journey to find these birds and save his ailing mother, on the way he will find friends and companions and face a huge threat that could consume the whole world"

So, in order to start the Nuzlocke, these are the ground rules. [*]The classic two rules. Only the first pokemon in each area can be caught, fainted-dead. [*]Must catch all three legendary birds and return home in less than 42 hours. The birds are MacGuffin so if all remaining pokemon are the birds it counts as dying anyway and game over. [*]No running away from a wild pokemon. [*]No repeated pokemon, but no retries either. If the pokemon is repeated, the opportunity is lost. [*]If a pokemon kills a member of the group, the whole species becomes blacklisted. And no retries. [*]There is a set limit of 50 hours before Mewtwo destroys the world. [*]Still haven't thought how to decide on a starter (I was thinking on using the last digit of the trainers id number, 1,4,7 bulbasaur, 2,5,8,squirtle, 3,6,9 charmander, 0 use the next digit) [*]I haven't thought If I should add a no-glitch exploit rule [*]Considering a no items run too. So ideas?

(I would love to draw the Nuzlocke or write a dramatization, haven't decided)

Nope, can be caught in the main story. Zapdos can be caught with as little as 3 badges (if you're willing to do some Sequence Breaking).

mmm After ten hours of gameplay I'm stuck.

I need cut to keep going, have no more routes to catch pokemon in and the only pokemon who could learn cut was killed by a wild spearow. I didn't foresee this as I forgot Digglet could only learn cut starting from pokemon yellow onwards.

What should I do? would using a fainted bellsprout to open the way violate the nuzzlocke spirit or should I transfer all pokemon to pokemon bank and start over?

Doing another Pokemon Emerald Randomizer Nuzlocke. Since I found a better thread to keep track of it I'll just post here instead of the general Here are my rules:

  • First Pokemon in a new area is the only one I can catch for that area. However I will be using the Shiny Clause to catch more if I happen to see one.
  • Dupes and Species Clause will allow me to keep searching until I find a Pokemon I either haven't caught yet or already caught. This extends to evo lines.
  • Abilities are randomized for each Pokemon.
  • Moves and base stats are updated to Gen 6 levels.
  • Trainers Pokemon are all randomized and the rival keeps his starter throughout the game.
  • All trainers are forced to have their final evolutions at level 55.
  • ALL Trainers and Gym leaders levels have been increased by 15%
  • All wild pokemon have been set to random.
  • Wild Pokemon items have been randomized.
  • Full HM Compatibility (IF NEEDED)
  • Field items have been radonmized. Bad items are gone.
  • TM's are randomized.
  • National Dex provided at start

So far I have Surskit and a Lunatone. I could have had a Nincada but I killed it by accident.

Watching TFS's new Emerald run got me to pick up Ruby again. Player name Weeber, figuring on anime naming theme. ...Which basically means Inuyasha theme, because I been bingeing it for awhile. Maybe a Soul Eater name if one ever occurs to me (it being the only other anime I've actually watched), or Naruto or other names I know through osmosis. Haven't decided yet whether RWBY or Avatar should count; would make things a bit easier.

Started with Sango the Memekip, and now have Hachi the Ziggoon (the only name so far with any arguable connection to the 'Mon; Hachi's a tanuki), Kohaku the Wingull, and most recently Jakotsu the Surskit.
The TFS guys were talking about how there're so damn many Water-types in gen 3; they weren't kidding.

EDIT: They weren't kidding about Pickup being broken in R & B either; Hachi just gave me a fucking Full Restore. I'm not even out of the woods yet.

Decided to start a Nuzlocke run of Pokemon Moon because why not. My Y Nuzlocke with the fic I was writing alongside it is postponed for a while, since I kind of wanted to take my time with it and I was playing faster than I was writing.

Not sure what starter I should pick. Since I picked Rowlett last time, maybe I should leave it up to a coin-flip between the other two.

X-Post from the General Thread, after being directed here:

So, I was cleaning earlier today and went through my drawers-among the other things I organized, I rifled through my handheld games and realized something-while I started it up to make sure it worked, I never actually played through Platinum. I played Diamond, Pearl, all earlier games besides Yellow and FR/LG, as well as at least one game in the later generations. But for some reason never this one.

Interested in a challenge, I decided to do something else I have been meaning to get around to, but never quite found the time-a Nuzlocke Challenge.

So that is what I started today-Nuzlocke Platinum, with Dupes Clause, Shiny Clause, Level limit for Gym Leaders/Champion (box overleveled), no Daycare, no Breeding, and no mercy rules, because I want a challenge.[lol]

Anyone want to lay odds for a first time runner?

Alright, doublepost to set the stage:

Original poke was Turtwig, and since everyone and their friend has done food for theme naming, I decided to do spices instead. So:

Badges: 0. Deaths: 0. Pokemon Caught: 9. Pokemon missed: 1.

Paprika: M Turtwig; Relaxed, highly curious. Starter, and I swear tackle is 60% accuracy at best.

Pepper: F Starly; Hasty, Mischievous. Currently the star of my team, and highest level at 13.

Salt: M Zubat; Bashful, likes to thrash around. Routinely misses 4-5 Supersonics in a row.

Dill: F Bidoof; Brave, likes to thrash about. Simple, so holding out hope for Sword's Dance.

Chive: M Geodude; Hardy, capable of taking hits. Except not, since Rock Head instead of Sturdy.[lol] However, he was holding an Everstone when I caught him.

Wasabi: F Magikarp; Jolly, likes to relax. I went back to Twinleaf Town to fish her up.

Parsley: M Budew; Lonely, mischievous. Wanted Poison Point, got Natural Cure. Eh.

Fennel: M Shinx; Rash, mischievous. Rivalry is disappointing, and means the box-hard to rely on a poke like this.sad

Cinnamon: F Onix; Naive, Somewhat vain. She broke 4 pokeballs before #5 did the trick-if that broke, I would have been down to 3 balls total. Rather nerve shredding. And now to go hunting for a Metal Coat.grin

So far so good, leveling up before I head into Oreburgh Mine. No trouble, but I broke a pokeball on an Abra before watching it teleport away on Route 203, so a little miffed about that. Will probably update after Roark.

Alright, in lieu of a discussion, I guess I will follow the example of previous tropers and use this thread as an intermittent journal.

Badges: 1. Deaths: 0. Pokemon Caught: 10. Pokemon missed: 2.

Got a Psyduck, Chervil, in Ravaged Path. Timid, likes to doze off.

Pepper leveled up to 15 and evolved, and remains my Ace; Paprika is just so slow. Roark caught me off-guard; his Onix outsped Paprika and smacked him with a Rock Throw, which I recovered off with Absorb. His Cranidos did as well, leading with a Leer and following up with a non-crit Headbutt that took off 60% health; knowing I was only a crit away from a OHKO was rather frightening. Fortunately, I emerged unscathed.

When I got to Valley Windworks, I led with Salt; my encounter was a Shellos, and chipped it twice with Astonish, while it Hardened twice, dropping it to a little under 50%. I went for a third chip and critted, which somehow did about 50% even after two defense stages up, which I could not believe. Rather miffed about that-now I will likely need to lead and swap Wasabi to get a reliable Water poke; Knowing my luck, I will draw a Pachirisu in Route 205.tongue

Pretty sure that crits ignore modifiers (like dropped attack and boosted defenses), as of Gen 3.
