If the things I read about Jagged Alliance 3 on the works page still apply, then I doubt that there will be much rejoicing.
I'm skeptical at least.
People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.No, that was with the remake of the JA 2, and I really don't mind real-time, even if it's not JA at all.
Half-Life: Dual Nature, a crossover story of reasonably sized proportions.Based on the success rate of previous J A3s this will probably end up as "Mercenary Alliance:Jagged Dudes" or something. But yeah it will be interesting if it survives development.
In the quiet of the night, the Neocount of Merentha mused: How long does evolution take, among the damned? It's been announced since a lot of time, they just changed the title.
Also, it's going to suck. Real-time Jagged Alliance? Seriously?
It's not real-time. It's a mix of turn-based and real-time.
The action is paused. You give your instructions. They carry out their actions in real-time. You pause again, etc.
It's like Combat Mission.
It's not "IGO-UGO" (I go, you go). It's "WEGO" (We go.)

Jonah FalconSounds to me like battle in most Bioware games.
And I certainly wouldn't call that turn-based at all.

People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.I posted the full press release and all 3 screenshots on my site.
Not quite. It's more structured than that. All combatants have to use up their action points before you can issue new orders. You can't change orders on the fly.
It's turn-based, but everything is resolved at the same time, instead of "Jan fires, Mike fires, Bill fires, Jerry fires".
No, everyone fires at the same time.

Jonah FalconI've played Combat Mission, JAF is right that WEGO differs completely from the Pausable Realtime used in Bioware games (look under “Simultaneous Turn Resolution” on that trope's page.) Still, looking over the official forum, I can't quite tell if “Plan & Go” is actual WEGO or simply PRT with a coat of paint over it.
Regardless, even though I like all three systems (and actually PREFER PRT personally,) dumping a series' core mechanics like this is a textbook What Were You Thinking? moment. Why oh why do developers do this?
I prefer the Combat Mission WEGO style, personally, and I think it fits Jagged Alliance better.
Hold on! I know Kalypso. I'll just CALL them and ask.
Called Ted at Kalypso - he doesn't know yet. Keep in mind bitComposer is developing, not Kalypso. He'll ask them for me.

Jonah Falcon- Unrivaled mix of combat (tactics), roleplay, business and strategy
- Innovative “Plan & Go” combat system combines RTS gameplay with turn-based elements
- Liberate a fictitious island from a dictator
- Realistic war setting with authentic-looking firearms
- Laptop/computer menu as a central anchor point for the player
- Assemble your own unit of mercenaries from over 60 unique mercenaries
- Simultaneous control of multiple squads using a strategic map
- Every mercenary has a detailed set of likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses
- Convincing characters who interact with and comment on the game events
- All the dialog has audio
- Train your mercenaries to improve their effectiveness
- Acquire resources by capturing mines and encampments
"Innovative “Plan & Go” combat system combines RTS gameplay with turn-based elements". That sounds like Combat Mission - you plan everything, then you watch how your decisions unfold.
"Liberate a fictitious island from a dictator". Sounds like Jagged Alliance 2.

Jonah FalconI don't see how anything else than a (actual) turn-based system can fit to Jagged Alliance.
Then again, if they dumb down the mechanics (as it seems to be the case), it may fit.
People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.It. Is. Turn-Based. If. Its. WEGO.
All it means is that instead of each character taking a turn, they all take their turn at once, which is more realistic than Jill firing while everyone stands around, then Ted firing while everyone stands around, then Bob firing while everyone stands around.
Jonah FalconIf it turns out to work as badly as in Brigade E 5, I call it quits. That game was so shit it wasn't even funny (for example, drawing a pistol from your pocket took less time than using a holster).
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisIf they are acting at the same time, then it's not completely turn-based. You even called it a mix of turn-based and real-time yourself.
I'm talking about 100% pure turn-based battle, untained from anything real-time. But it seems that it dies out...
People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.It's not even a sequel, just an Enhanced Remake of JA2. Ask yourself a question: If they had just pretty-fied the graphics and made it more mod-able instead of inflaming the fanbase, would they have an easier time?
Now that I think about it though, there is one possible justification for WEGO rather than IGOUGO, which is that it would make multiplayer better, but of course there is no multiplayer.
Not really, they're blown because they lose the license or something similar.
Also, the remake is Real Time only.
Half-Life: Dual Nature, a crossover story of reasonably sized proportions.Actually, Kalypso is also publishing Jagged Alliance 2 Reloaded, which is an Enhanced Remake of the original. :)

If it's not turn-based, it's crap.
Just to nip circular semantics debates in the bud:
- WEGO is turn-based.
- JA 1 & 2 are IGOUGO, which is also turn-based, but in a different way.
- We currently lack sufficient information to determine if this new game is WEGO (turn-based) or PRT (realtime.) We do, however, know it is clearly not IGOUGO, and thus are certain that it differs significantly from JA 1 & 2.
I need help with Jagged Alliance 2: I get the Error when I try to download the save, I followed GOG's advice and run the game as administrator, but now it claims that there are NO saved games at all =/
So is this game remake of second game with Frozen Synapse's gameplay? =/
Wait, it's a remake? Well now I'm disappointed, I was hoping it'd be a new game, I really don't see any reason to play it now instead of JA 2
:)
Announced.
And The Fandom Rejoiced.
