Spider-Man General Discussion

Go To

This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.

  • Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
  • Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
  • Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.

Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.

Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.

Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

     Original Thread OP
Since everyone likes talking about him. I know little about him(Ironically,I got nearly all I know about him from a Batman thread),but he's apparently important so I made this thread. Enjoy.

Spiral#2 preview

Newspaper: Ah, so Norman never returned from the dead in this continuity. Black Widow seems bamboozled at the idea Norman was the Goblin though. Maybe we'll get flashbacks to the Night Ms. Stacy died (which hopefully does'nt last a week)

I love how the last question is about Mayday and Gage is like "oh yeah, that too"

Damn, I managed to screw up my reading order and got myself really confused. It makes me think I couldn't just read these runs straight, though, because I'd feel too much like I'd accidentally glossed over something when it's brought up.

The way Ultimate Lizard was handled was kind of strange. Super brief appearance in team up, and it's apparently canon since it gets brought up in the comic. I accidentally read that before team up, and was trying to figure out where the hell that would have happened.

Can't say I'm really fond of that part of comics.

Some events have the common courtesy of putting a Reading Order on the last page of each issue to let you know what order to read them in.

Some comics also do readers a solid and put big bold lettering on the recap page that says things like, "READ THIS AFTER IRON CAP VS FIN FANG DOOM #5: THE SPIDER-ING".

There needs to be more of that.

No, I made it up.

I was originally going to have it be Iron Man v. Fin Fang Doom, but worried people would assume the latter was just a typo and correct it, so I made Iron Cap a Composite Character too.

I think Fin Fang Doom is from Amalgam Comics, actually.

Nope, sorry, that was Fin Fang Flame. Perhaps I was thinking about Doctor Doomsday?

Ah Amalgam. Never change.

Well, considering Marvel and DC are owned by major rival corporations, it's not likely they'll be allowed to work together again any time soon. So we're not going to get a new Amalgam, which means it can't ever change.

I think Bendis actually had a huge April 1st joke last year about Amalgam happening again with a poster and everything.

Edit:Yep.

Ultimate Spider-man #45. So cute.waii

I mean, uh, the last few pages. Not the part where May reveals how distressed she is and all that.

Newspaper strip had a nicely illustrated flashback to Gwen's death today. Peter even opened up to Widow about his feels for Stacy.

July Solits for Spider-Man

Only one issue of Renew Your Vows will come out in July. Spider-Island on the other hand will have two issues that month. Solits confirm that particular series will be five parts.

Spider-Gwen to feature Black Cat, Ninjas, and an emotional moment with Peter

Interestingly, it seems Gwen's book is now a mini-series and not an ongoing.

Some info on ASM#18 and Renew Your Vows

Peter and MJ are keeping the secret of Spider-Man from their daughter (makes sense, they kept it from Mayday also until she was a teenager), and Peter's daughter is not what you expect

[up][up]So is Spider-Gwen's Peter Not Quite Dead? He's The Lizard of that Universe, so a revival wouldn't be out of the question.

Newspaper Strip Hilarity:

Harry: I'll never rest until you pay for killing my father

Spider-Man: Is that why you attacked me and MJ as the Hobgoblin?

Harry: I was asleep

And man, they love homaging this cover
