This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

I think the best argument made for Spectacular Spider-Man is that, if I'm not mistaken, it's widely considered the best TV adaptation of Spider-Man. Personally, I'd say it's the best adaptation of Spider-Man we've gotten overall.
The most tragic part about it was that it was killed by legal shenanigans, of all things.
if we're going to play the insult card
I'm not playing any 'cards', since I have no agenda or interest on one side of the discussion over the other. I just want for the conversation to remain civil, and regardless of who started any cycle of insults, two wrongs don't make a right.
i haven't seen spectacular spider man but it wouldn't surprise me if it was the best adaptation. mtv's spider man and the 90's spider man series had...their fair share of issues.
I don't think the 90s Spidey deserves most of it's flack now that I've rewatched most of it...yeah it had problems trying to appease censors, but it's a really solid series, I wouldn't say a series where Peter admits to his creator there's nothing wrong with growing up has that many issues.

90s Spiderman is good as it could be considering the constraints placed on it. But those constraints still bring it down somewhat.
Doesn't stop me from loving it though.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersGET BACK HERE SHOCKER! SHOOOOOOOOOCKEEEEERRR! I'LL HUNT YOU DOWN TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH!!!!
I think Spectacular is a great interweaving of classic Spider-Man elements with stuff from the Ultimate series as well as some original choices.
I wouldn't consider that Peter a Butt-Monkey at all. To the contrary, I don't think he suffers from the "Parker Luck" in the sense of being unlucky generally- it's more that when he makes bad/impulsive decisions, they tend to really backfire.
And in terms of embarrassing things happening to him, Peter tends to give as good as he receives in both his civilian and costumed identities (the ASM version is very similar in this respect, just way more of an asshole).

The problem with 90's Animated Spidey comes from when he starts being an ineffectual loser who can't get anything done without the guest-star of the week, and even then most of his enemies end up slipping away anyway.
Plus, there's the rockin' 90's theme tune.
Admittedly, there's something about the Spectacular theme song that just doesn't do it for me.
That's because its lyrics are just so bad.
To be fair, the 90's theme's lyrics weren't much better. "Spider-blood! Spider-blood! Radioactive spider-blood!" However, they were much less prevalent in the song. Spectacular's theme puts all the focus on its terrible, terrible lyrics.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.For as much grief as 90s Spider-Man gets, it also has one of the most powerful scenes in animation.
...Maybe I'm just an insensitive SOB, but having never watched this particular scene before, (or anything from the series at all ever since I was 12 or 13,) I was less emotionally moved, and was more 'What the heck did I just watch?'
Well, when you decided you wanted to keep the conversation civil, you took issue with me using the word "philistine" but said nothing about Sharnado using the word "douche." I'm just saying.
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Maybe I just paid more attention to your post than his, so... rejoice?
i believe that at some point MJ got lost in some interdimensional vortex or something...and then came back several episodes later mysteriously with no explanation of how she got out.
it was later revealed that she was a clone engineered from hydro man or something, and the real Mary Jane was still MIA. In fact the series ended with Peter and Madame Webb looking for her...which never got resolved.
the scene doesn't really do much for me now unfortunately. the dialogue/va just feels too stilted now.

I always wanted to know how the proper MJ would have reacted to finding out she was legally married to Peter in her world (Peter having gotten hitched to the Clone), in fact, the real MJ did'nt even know Peter was Spidey when she vanished

It's Christopher Daniel Barnes' performance that does me in every time. That last big NOOOOO.
My various fanfics.Yep. It was the 90's show's way of doing The Night Gwen Stacy Died, but using MJ as a stand-in for Gwen and using "lost in an interdimensional vortex" as a substitute for actually dying. The Green Goblin had added Spot's dimension-spanning tech to his repertoire to set up that version of the scene.
Likewise, their version of the Jackal also substituted MJ for Gwen for his classic "cloned Gwen back to life!" story.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Barnes' voice acting makes me wish the show didn't have so much Executive Meddling because he hit it out of the park a lot of times. My personal favorite scene is when he essentially tells Madame Webb to fuck off.
Barnes is in stiff competition with Josh Keaton for the default Spider-Man voice I hear in my head whenever I read the comics.
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.i can only hear rhino romano from the spider-man videogame ):
I hear most of the Spectacular cast.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I still hear SMTAS whenever I read the Kingpin. To the point where Vincent Donforio's voice and cadence threw me off when I was watching the netflix DD series.
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsYou've had some strange opinions before but this time you've gone too far.
Okay, well, let me put it this way: I don't mean to make any judgement on who this guy is as a person. I'm not saying they're stupid. But I am saying the reason they gave for disliking the show is stupid.
Yes, there were scenes where Peter would do something like fight Shocker in a garbage dump, and then he'd smell like garbage and people would laugh at him, but it seemed like the show was just being lighthearted and silly with it, not trying to make a serious statement or anything. Whether or not Peter was being too much of a Butt-Monkey seems like an issue so beside the basic plot and premise of the show that the fact that someone would give it as their number one reason for disliking the show makes absolutely no sense at all to me.
Don't get me wrong, I know people who don't watch the show. I can understand reasons like "It doesn't catch my interest" or "I just don't like Spider-Man," but "I like Spider-Man, but this show made him a Butt-Monkey in a couple scenes, so everything else it did right is invalidated" is just ridiculous.
Also, if we're going to play the insult card, I'd like to point out that Sonof Sharknado called me a "douche," and I'm pretty sure that word generally carries some stronger connotations than "philistine."
