Spider-Man General Discussion

Go To

This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.

  • Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
  • Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
  • Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.

Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.

Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.

Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

     Original Thread OP
Since everyone likes talking about him. I know little about him(Ironically,I got nearly all I know about him from a Batman thread),but he's apparently important so I made this thread. Enjoy.

Well then again, it's likely that Peter will come back in that rise of Ultron thingy everyone has been buzzing about.

Have status quo changing events become the status quo?

[up] More like they realized the late-2000s status quo had a whole lot of crap in it and have been backpedalling.

Peter does seem to be wearing the suit in the previews we've been given for the Ultron thing, but some people (okay, two people at CBR who can't spell) seem to think it'll take place before NOW.

Isn't Age of Ultron an alternate universe? Like Age of X and Age of Apocalypse?

[up][up]It does. Slott said that the previews for Age of Ultron and the first Avengers Arc are both before Superior. Spider-Man in the previews is Peter, and there is a tie in to Superior for like 8 A.U. which has the new one. So the beginning is probably Peter but then later in the event is Superior.

... I am actually perfectly okay with this.

Maybe it's because I've always liked Ock better than Spidey, or because this is cooler sounding than all the other ways they've ruined Peter before, or because I like the subversion of the typical scene with the villain explaining every detail of his master plan. Anyway, I like it. If he remains in the role long enough I might actually start reading the books again out of morbid curiosity if nothing else.

I liked it as well. I almost thought I missed something when reading. This is a very nice plot twist.

Discussion on the reveal:

Has Ock ever been portrayed as Swave before? Prior to this his famous love interest was Aunt May and he always looked mildly deformed. Contrast this with Osborn who, at least once, stole Harry's fiance.

" The Doc may have had the haircut of Moe from the Three Stooges, the physique of a little boy statue holding up a hamburger outside a fast-food restaurant, and the personality of the most pretentious chef ever to hold a job in Paris, but he'd also demonstrated a baffling personal magnetism that had prompted at least two women to become murderous super-villains just as a way of staying close to him."

[up]Spider-Man 2099 aka Miguel O'Hara. Now which one I dont know. It could be Original, Exiles, or Timestorm. Its probably Original though Exiles would make a lot of sense.

People really so seem to be turning against Slott. Comic book fandom really is unpleasable. I'll admit Superior Spider-Man does sound kind of easy to do badly, but we're not even there yet. And he's also said that Superior #1 will be a major And The Fandom Rejoiced moment.

One of the aforementioned covers appears to show a half-Peter-half-Miguel. Maybe my body-swap theory isn't that far off...

[up]From everything I've heard, Slott made it sound really bad on purpose. It is clear he has some ace on his sleeve. Sure, it could backfire, but I don't think Slott is suck a terrible writer to make such big mistake.

Cover. And Exiles Miguel's World is actually a different Universe from normal Miguel due to the Exiles interference. Plus his own Exile adventures. So yeah they are different versions.

[up][up] Slott is my second-favorite comic writer (just behind Morrison), and he's very good at the Obi-Wan Kenobi truth.

His best-known run before this was She-Hulk, which was amazing and turned me into a huge fan of his. He also did the Great Lakes Avengers miniseries, which was an absolutely hilarious black comedy that he's said Superior will be similar in tone to.
