Spider-Man General Discussion

Go To

This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.

  • Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
  • Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
  • Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.

Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.

Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.

Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

     Original Thread OP
Since everyone likes talking about him. I know little about him(Ironically,I got nearly all I know about him from a Batman thread),but he's apparently important so I made this thread. Enjoy.

Slott gives zero fucks about the fanbase.

He jerks them around a lot, yeah, but as I've said before, I think the only downright-inexcusable trolling of the fans he's done was treating the possibility of MJ being raped as a joke. Even that was less about Slott personally and more about not really trusting any superhero comic writer to handle rape well. tongue

About Silk, her being better with Webs makes sense when you consider that for 15 years or so she had literally nothing else to do except experiement with webbing.

[up][up][up]I dunno, he seems to really love his gig. I just think he isn't particular great with knowing his limits with his online trolling.

[up][up]But her having interal webs at all makes no sense. Peter and Kaine only got them them by making deals with the Other, Silk's had them all along.

I'm just gonna cut the tension and tell you Gwen, Mayday, and probably anyone else you find interesting will die horribly.

Movie-goers want to read stuff with Gwen in it.

[up][up]Marvel has tried to bring Gwen Stacy back in some type of capacity for years. The original Gwen Stacy clone, Sarah Stacy from Sins Past, hell Carlie Cooper was even created as a last second Expy because the rest of the writers shot down Quesada's plan to resurrect her in One More Day.

The fact that Spider!Gwen has struck a chord with so many readers may be Marvel's loophole to finally bring a Gwen back. So yeah, I think she's safe.

[up] That, and continuing the tradition of Gwen being alive in every universe except 616.

[up][up] I heard it was JMS who wanted her back and Quesada who nixed it. JMS's plan apparently would've undone every Spidey story since Harry got addicted to drugs, but apparently Peter was more in-character in it than the final product so it's pretty heavily debated which would be better.

[up] JMS's idea would have brought back Gwen, so I'd say it was better.

[up]no it wasnt. hell bringing back harry was bad enough. also i dont see spider-gwen as staying around. she doesnt serve a point other than a teenage spider-person of which we have a lot, sh might not die but i doubt shell stick around.

[up][up][up]cough movies cough.

Spidey seems to have more terrible, or at least controversial, storylines than most Marvel characters. Actually, I'm not sure he actually has more or if they're just remembered better. Like, the Avengers have had The Crossing which was apparently at least as bad as OMD, but you never hear people talking about that one anymore.

I wonder why this is? I have a guess, but it might be out there.

Spidey is one of like 3(4?) Marvel comics that have actually reached over 500 issues. Where there is good stuff there is also bad stuff.

I wonder if she's based on anyone's relative?

Whatever. It's not like anyone'll remember her in five years. And regardless of who they're about, eleven female-led books is pretty cool.

wild mass guess Peter got more radiation than magic, while Silk got more magic than radiation wild mass guess

I suppose her first storyline will involve trying to locate and reconnect with her family.

And I'm still waiting for Ock to encounter an alt-version of himself in Spider-Verse.

I find that I sort of care about Spider-Verse so I picked up the Superior 32 and 33 issues. I can't decide whether its touching or weird that Spock made an Anna Marie hologram.

This may not mean Marvel's giving her a book. It may just mean they're considering it, and want to make sure they've got the copyright if they do go ahead. I suspect the general response to Silk will factor into whether they do it - if there's a lot of praise for her, they'll do it, if there's a lot of hate, they might decide not to. There's also the matter of finding a creative team who's interested in doing the book, and, presumably, interested in sticking to what Marvel has in mind for it.

If they do end up doing a Silk solo, my vote for writer would be either Jen Van Meter or Kathryn Immonen. Because I want them to get more work at Marvel. Come on, Marvel! Give them more work!
