Yay! We have a discussion thread!
...So, uh...What should we discuss?
Based on what?We could discuuuuuuss...
Seriously though, what rules and stuff are we going to need?
Storm and trouble won't make you make you lose your way. (Tits might, though.)Well, last time I checked, I think we needed a GM. But nobody in the signups, not even the guy who posted said signups, knew the rules for Maid RPG.
Heck, do we even really NEED the rules? Not that I'll complain if you all insist on playing it like an actual game, but given this is the INTERNET, not a real game...
Nah, the rules aren't that important to the whole thing.
Besides, this is a RP, not a group of people gathering round a table in a basement once a week.
...We might need a GM, though.
Storm and trouble won't make you make you lose your way. (Tits might, though.)You have a point (I think), but it's not like the rules mattered much in the first place, as the original rule book was about 20 pages long...
But do you think that we could have a stand-in GM until we find someone who is better at it?
Based on what?... really? I could have sworn you said we needed to know the rules earlier, unless I simply misunderstood the TV Tropes use of the term 'GM'. Not that I wanted to follow the rules strictly, either, I just wanted to join to see how badly Hilarity Ensues.
SO! The problem is deciding which of us would be a good GM! Raise your hand if you think you would be!
... maybe we should do more than raise hands on an online forum.
...I did?...I'm confusing myself now. I take that back, we should know the rules, at least partially.
As for who would be GM, not me. I'm terrible at GMing.

Based on what?Well, I think we'd need someone else to be the GM, as they have a seperate character to play. (Going from the Archmagos thread.)
Storm and trouble won't make you make you lose your way. (Tits might, though.)megamagikarp, I was responding to Iniquitus with that. I'm not going to nag you or anything, but my opinion stands.
...Oh. Sorry.
Based on what?Weeeeell, knowing the rules might give us a hand in figuring out how things work, but I'm pretty sure that we can make it work.
I'd volunteer to start the thread and GM until we find someone better suited for the task (e.g. someone with sanity), but I'm kinda short on time for now, so it'd take a while to get going.
Storm and trouble won't make you make you lose your way. (Tits might, though.)I actually do have a copy of the rules, but I'm not sure I would make a good choice for GM...
However, you're right, the core rules are about 20 pages, and the English version is the core book plus the expanded rules and the extra scenarios in one 206 page volume/PDF. And it does say that Rule Zero is in effect (the "What I Say, Goes" version, not the "Don't Help The DM/GM" version)...
However, about half of the book's length is for all the rules, and all the tables for roll results and stuff like that.

Will the transhumanist future have catgirls? Does Japan still exist? Well, there is your answer. — UnknownReally, you do? Because if you can find a way for me to read the rulebook online or something, I could GM. I have no experience, but there's a first time for everything. I'm totally cool with playing as the master of the mansion instead of a maid. I don't have any dices, but I can probably find something on the internet.
Oh, and for the record? I'm a girl.

Fits. I'm a guy.
Would it be possible for you to make an online file that we could all read? Not that we'd actually read it, mind you...
Storm and trouble won't make you make you lose your way. (Tits might, though.)Guy here.
Well, I got the print version, which also includes a copy of the PDF version.
Can I at least suggest that you consider buying it direct? It's only $7 for the PDF only version, and $29 for the print/PDF version (assuming you're living in the States)...
But, if worse comes to worse, there should be some way to get you guys a copy of the needed parts, or, failing that, I guess I could handle the actual GM duties (yes, the rules do have provisions for the master and the GM being different people)...

Will the transhumanist future have catgirls? Does Japan still exist? Well, there is your answer. — UnknownI live in NZ, so it'd take a month at least for me to get it.
All in favour of you being the GM?
Storm and trouble won't make you make you lose your way. (Tits might, though.)I don't have any problems with it.
Based on what?...So, anyone else want me to GM my very first game of Maid, period?
Will the transhumanist future have catgirls? Does Japan still exist? Well, there is your answer. — UnknownWell, you don't have to if you don't want to.
Based on what?We'll help.
Only I won't because I don't actually know anything. BUT I'LL TRY!
Storm and trouble won't make you make you lose your way. (Tits might, though.)Eh, better than nothing, I guess.
Just don't blame me if this turns into a literal train wreck (I would a metaphorical train wreck, but I know that one will happen)...
I'll try to explain things in the next post.
Will the transhumanist future have catgirls? Does Japan still exist? Well, there is your answer. — UnknownFirst things first: Maid uses your standard d6 for all rolls, with a couple exceptions. You're going to want 3d6 at most, since the game uses them creatively: You most often roll 1d6, but you sometimes use 2d6 or 3d6. However, for a large number of things, you roll 1d66, which is a fancy way of saying "roll 2d6, and make one of the results the 10s digit and the other the 1s digit" (there's also the 1d666, which uses a third die for the 100s digit). For the record, I am using a program to simulate die rolls, and have it configured to easily handle the 1d66 and 1d666 rolls. On the down side, this means I can't rearrange the order of the numbers like I could with a real die.
—-
Remember your math? Specifically, order of operations? Well good, since it comes in handy for me while I explain character creation (yeah, you can use the generator, but where's the fun in that?). Note, I'm assuming you're creating a normal maid character here.
First, you roll 6*(2d6/3), rounding down to the nearest whole number, for your stats. The six stats are:
Athletics (Raw physical ability, used by default when combat gets physical)
Affection (Your ability to make friends, basically)
Skill (Your ability to preform you duties as a maid)
Cunning (Your ability to out think people through trickery)
Luck (How lucky you are)
Will (How positive/constructive your personality is)
After that, you roll 1d2 twice to determine your two maid types. Each one will increase a given stat by 1, but also decrease a different stat by 1 (but never below 0, so you can't get a 1 or 0 in a stat roll and then get the same maid type once or twice that reduces it to -1 or -2).
Now, those stats are written down, and then Affection is doubled and used as the starting Favor, and Will gets multiplied by 10 to serve as your Spirit.
—-
Next, you pick out the colors for eyes, hair, and uniforms. I don't think anyone will object if I say screw this part and just choose your own, and only roll for them if you honestly have no idea what you want them to be.
—-
Next, is the special qualities rolls. These are roleplay traits, and as such, just use a character creator if you don't have a copy of the book/PDF. Note that under rare situations, the special qualities are used for more than roleplay.
—-
After that, you roll 1d66 for the maid origin, and another 1d66 for the stress explosion (what happens when you get too much stress). This is another point where making up your own is a good idea if you don't have a copy of the book/PDF.
After that, you can roll for any other optional tables that you need (weapons, trauma, complexes, that sort of thing).
—-
Next, you determine your highest stat, or choose your preferred one if there are two or more that are tied for highest, then roll 1d6 for a maid power. If your stats add up to nine or less, then you can pick a second power, as well.
—-
Finally, if you haven't already done this, pick a name and age.
—-
And that's character creation in a nutshell. Note that if the GM doesn't say you can't, you can reroll or just plain out pick anything except the stats/maid types.
(And I'll try to get some more of the game mechanics/rules up sometime today.)

Will the transhumanist future have catgirls? Does Japan still exist? Well, there is your answer. — Unknown... you know, when I think about it, maybe I should drop out of this RP, even though I already made a character a while back. Sorry, but I'm just having second thoughts.
I'm in favor of you being the GM. I already got my character in the last thread, can we keep those or do we have to make new ones/repost? And remember, as the one who started this, I say you're still allowed to customize your character with anything except those rolls you use to determine your stats.
Because I jump the gun, here's our conversation thread.
Because... we need one. For science. And stuff.
