That game had a Fan Translation ages ago. Her family should have told her about the wonders of ZSNES.

She was probably one of those people like on TV Tropes with a "moral opposition" to emulation.

Or at least, there is a strong possibility that this is the case.

Reminds me of Andy Lippincott from Doonesbury who was relieved he got to listen to "Pet Sounds" before he died.

Here's her obit (cached so you can read the guestbook)

You can keep it open for a year for $30 if you want people to continue posting to her guestbook.

By the way, it isn't that sad to me. Here's an old woman who read Nintendo Power, and played video games. She was in her late 40's when the first game was being played on that ancient computer. Yeah, she didn't play Dragon Quest VI, but I'm betting she played other games just as good on the SNES.

I'm impressed how easily people can be made sad.

And with "impressed" I mena "utterly dumbfounded".

Seriously, you guys...

You clearly do not understand the burning passion we Dragon Quest fans feel. CLEARLY DO NOT.

I think it's perfectly normal to commiserate with someone's lost opportunities... It's like the "Only one day til I retire!" guy that you know is going to die and you feel bad because he was probably going to dote on his grandkids or travel the world with his wife, only with a real lady and Dragon Quest VI.
