Raize continued pushing forward, and the temperature eventually got to incredibly cold levels, to the extent Raize stopped at a shop for selling furs and bought some coats for his group, he looked pretty bad by then, he was blue in the face, he looked a little sickened, but he was by now used to cold temperatures due to coming from Estolia. Winter was always bad in Estolia, but...never this bad. At least the Liches had shown no signs of following them, maybe they would catch Rigor Mortis if they went into cold places or something.

He grinned darkly at the attempt at humor. Even his little witty jokes were getting suppressed by the cold. He supposed now was not the time, they had to get North before anything more in the vein of Argageres could be done.

Sakkaku and Brìghde walked along in silence. They were halfway to the inn when Brìghde finally spoke up about something that had been bugging her, "Sakkaku..." The assassin didn't bother to look at her, "Yeah?"

"When they were removing your clothes so they could get to your wounds, I noticed that-"

"I have a lot of scars?"

"Yeah," she remained silent but a question still hung in the air.

Sakkaku sighed. He didn't mind answering the question but some people took pity on him when they found out and pity isn't something he wanted. "Several years ago, I went out with a small group to get some starsteel. I was the only one to come back alive."

"I'm sorry to hear that."

"Don't be. We were young, prideful, and foolish. We thought we could handle it and as such we paid for our stupidity," he paused for a second, "Sometimes I wonder why I was the only one to make it out alive. It's not like I was the only one who could use magic."

Brìghde exhaled and looked forward. Her mind was swimming with confused thoughts and questions. Her mind jumped to conclusions about the way he said that last statement and why he paused before saying it. Though she wanted to say some of these things, she couldn't find her voice and thought that some of them would be inappropriate.

Sakkaku paused when they got to where they fought the chimera, "I'm going to see how many of my kunai I can salvage." Brìghde watched him silently as she shifted through her thoughts. She almost missed it when he walked back up to her and started talking. "I managed to get ten of the sixteen that I used. That brings my total down to fourteen." Brìghde just nodded and followed Sakkaku as they walked towards the inn.

Raize and group kept trudging onward, and he sighed as he watched Taysa managing, but only barely, to keep up behind him. She was clinging to his large shoulder so as to have a convenient thing to remind her where she was moving.

The snow was really falling hard, was a Lich capable of manipulating the snow itself? Well, cold as the dead, they say. So maybe.

As he trudged along, Sir Blackblade groaned inwardly. He couldn't help but think... had he failed? Was there something he could have done to protect Lady Snede? His grip tightened on his blade as though it were the lich's neck.

If I see that bastard again... if the prince and his friend intend to kill him... They'll have to get in line behind me.

Zoukotsu went with the Knight and sighed, his current companions left much to be desired. They could not see the fate so obviously writ en large for this world. Fate had spoken, and the Prince would be The King who would guide the world to the future. Nothing would deny this.

Meanwhile, Sangou watched the Prince's little journey north, the snow was of his devising thanks to Geist giving him a little pendant that summoned spirits of ice. Lady Snede...where had he heard that name before? Oh yes, the foolish woman who loved a vampire and thought he would only sparkle at command. It would be fun to play with her psyche.

He first began the mental rape by whispering in his voice, "Why couldn't you join me? Why? Why? Didn't you love me? Didn't you love me more than some stupid word of law or duty?"

The voice, which sounded like Kiera's old vampire "love", continued.

Sangou just wanted to see what her reaction would be.

Raize looked back at Kiera and asked, "Is something wrong?"

"I just keep thinking I hear something..." She knew full well what she was hearing, but she didn't need them thinking she was going crazy with grief.

The voice now circled her, "Disloyal...Disloyal...Disloyal...Disloyal...how can you say you enforce the laws of people...when you cannot follow your heart's laws...Disloyal...Disloyal...Disloyal...DISLOYAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!" At the last word, the voice turned into a shriek.

"...Okay, now I'm definitely hearing things." she shrugged, moving on.

She was surprisingly calm, given the circumstances. This stemmed from the fact she was about ninety percent certain it wasn't him. First off, he loved mind games, but this wasn't his style... second, he abandoned her.

She'd spent far too long trying to prove to herself that she didn't need him to justify her existance. She'd be damned if she was going to let herself fall apart because of his voice and a few harsh words!

She snarled inwardly.

Raize stopped moving at the front, "Okay, there is something really weird about this snow. No way can it be falling this harshly so much and so fast..."

Taysa looked around, scanning the area, "I-I think I found something, a Mage is nearby!"

Raize nodded, thinking on how he could drive this guy out if he was responsible for that snow.

Sakkaku and Brìghde walked along in silence until they reached the inn, "Feel free to get yourself a room. I'm going to turn in for the night. My room is on the left at the end of the hall if you need something." Brìghde nodded before calling out, "Good night."

With that, Sakkaku retired for the night as did Brìghde after getting herself a room.

A young, drunk looking man with black hair tied back into a pony tail was getting himself into apparent trouble in the inn as the two of them entered. It looked like he hit on a very large man's fiance, and he had called a few of his friends over to rough up the drunk. Yet now one said friend rested on the floor, his nose busted up and disgusting looking.

The drunk stumbled around, "I...know you're like...lets beat this drunk guy up...but I'm like, like, the God Fist, or Muhammad Aile or some thing."

new chapter of New Dawn Hollow Dusk coming up very soon. Explains pretty well why the cast is so damn insane.

Sakkaku and Brìghde both ignored them. Both of them were exhausted, Sakkaku didn't give a damn, and Brìghde wouldn't bother intervening unless someone's life was in danger.

You're going to have to try harder, Nick. Neither of them suffer from Chronic Hero Syndrome.

That was when a young boy, barely past his tenth year, ran in and tried to pull the drunkard out, "Please...dad, stop it! This thing with seeking fights, its not right! Its not you..."

The man took on a more pitiful look, he begged, "Please...Matthew, get back home..."

The large man grinned darkly, "Too late, mate! We'll just beat up your kid!"

The large man picked up young Matthew with one hand by the collar, and started punching the kid in the guts. After six punches, Matthew threw up blood on the man, who just grinned and kept going.

Okay...

Sakkaku continued to ignore them as he still didn't give a damn. He did, however, stop when Brìghde did.

When the man went to strike the kid again, his hand met with a barrier that felt like a brick wall. "I suggest that you leave the child alone and go about your business," Brìghde said darkly to the man.

Matthew...this kid's name definitely signifies something.

The large man took a swing at Brighde, "What are you gonna do if I don't!?"

The man's fist hit another barrier. Without moving a muscle, she struck the wrist on the arm that was holding the boy with a cone shaped barrier. If he dropped the kid, she'd use her powers to catch him and pull him out of harms way.

Nameless NPC vs Player Character. Curb-Stomp Battle won't even begin to describe this.

The man dropped the kid and then backed up, right into the drunk man, who smiled before driving his fist right into the man's face. A man two times the size of the drunk man, this mountain of a man was dropped in one punch from the man who mere seconds ago looked too drunk to make much difference.

He radiated killing intentions, and looked to the other men, "Get lost, you goddamn maggots. I am sick of having to look at you."

They all ran out, and then he dropped the whole thing again and smiled at Brighde, "I really must apologize about that, my name's Kyrio, Kyrio Streika."

He looked at Matthew and used some magic, almost as if it was second nature to him, healing the boy up.

And that's Earth-Matthew's father.

Brìghde smiled at the man, "Nadia. It's a pleasure to meet you, Kyrio."

Sakkaku contemplated going to bed before deciding against it. Kyrio had piqued his interest so he ordered a drink and took a seat at a nearby table.

Kyrio kept his affable smile, and whispered to her, "Burial Organization, am I correct?"

He gathered some mana in the air, making a small sphere of silver which he played with in one hand before tossing it into the air, where it vanished into nothingness again.

As Blackblade trudged along, he noticed something... a scent he hadn't smelt since...

He remembered that night.

I was dug in with my comrades in the swamps... we'd been there at least a fortnight... trudging along, avoiding carnivorous plantlife and enduring sting insects... Ismael was the first to fall... the creatures dragged him off before we knew he'd been hit with the dart... then there was Nelson... morningstar to the temple... spikes piecred his helm, and didn't even end it instantaneously... he had to feel the pain, and the terror of drowning in the murk... Mendel managed to pull through despite his injuries... I recommended him for a promotion...

But what was that smell? He remembered...

A whistle... yes, a whistle from the brush... then that smell... that slobber... but from what? Where was... Wait... we saw willo'thewisps that night... but I only saw those...

He halted, drew his sword, and immediately called for the Mage's attention.

He'd smelt that scent... 148 in the age of thorns... the Goblin Campaign.

"Worgs." He whispered the word to himself. He could see their eyes, burning blood red with hatred and hunger. Even now, he could feel their hot breath... hear their claws and fangs shrieking against his armor.

"Bane," he swore.

It's kind of funny. Sufficiently advanced stupidity is like sufficiently advanced science; eventually, you find something you can't solve.

"Yes," Brìghde replied, "How did you know that?"

Meanwhile, Sakkaku rolled his eyes. He didn't care that Nadia was with some organization but the new guy using magic for no good reason annoyed him. If only he knew where his power came from. If only they knew the inevitable fate of all those who use it. This world is going to burn thanks to people like him.

Why am I imagining Sakkaku sounding like Johnny Yong Bosch?

Kyrio smiled, "You could say I have some experience in that regard, you could say I'm an old friend of Sorata's...I understand she's been assigned there again..."

He was here for one reason, and this was to make sure that whatever was going to happen here ended in his favor. He had already seen to the Sword of Light, now to stop this prophecy of Ice King Raize...
