Terror attack on a Moscow Airport.

A bomb attack at Moscow's Domodedovo airport has killed at least 35 people and injured more than 100 - many of them critically, officials say.

Investigators say the explosion, which happened in the arrivals hall, was caused by a suicide bomber.

Vladimir Makarov, were you behind this?

In all seriousness, ouch. This will end badly for whatever group perpetrated it, the Russians are never known for taking terrorism lightly.

The CNN comments about this article made me laugh and cry at the same fault.

Somehow a bombing in Russia is Obama's fault for being friendly to Islam...

Annnywho. I wonder if this was the work of the rebel group who's name escapes me

(sigh) And I bet that when some sort of action against perpetrators would be taken, western world would not stop criticizing us for "oppressing poor Chechens". Despite our responses to terrorism being way milder than America's.

If we disagree, that much, at least, we have in common

Was it Russians who did that hostage situation in the bus by shoving an explosive on a stick inside the bus?

Didnt stop em from bombing Moskva subways in the past (like last year), or continuing insurgent actions in Chechnya - among the continued issues in the Caucasus. So lol no it wont solve the problem. Heck, the Federation politicians and government KNOWS that and they're now trying to deal with the social situation there and to improve the living conditions for the peoples there, hence that new federal district of the Caucauses.

The United States hasn't gone and razed cities to the ground using artillery and done the sort of fucked up shit that the Russian Federation did in the Caucauses, indiscriminate killings, etc in recent history against secessionist movements....

Esp given how recent politicians have gone all "russia does not negotiate with terrorists Russia DESTROYS terrorists" mentality that hasnt solved the issue of nationalism and secessionism....

Apparently one of the survivors was standing about 10 yards from the bomber. Jeez.

“They’d like to be bombing planes and they can’t, so they’re bombing airports,” he said, adding that the attack “validates the focus that the U.S. has had on security at airports.”

Can't say I didn't call this. I'm curious though, as I'm not familiar with what they mean by the arrivals hall — is that before or after the security checkpoint?

The arrivals halls I've been to recently don't have to go through security.

So basically they just took the bomb to the biggest crowd before the checkpoint.

God dammit, the one thing I hoped I was dead fucking wrong seeing coming. Do you people see why invasive security measures don't help?! You have to actually put them somewhere, and anything before that will always be a target. There was basically nothing short of precognition (or extensive foreknowledge by whatever Russia's analogue of the FBI is) that could've stopped this.

People dont realize it but any terrorist could EASILY take out a mass group of people.

I mean, look at any stadium, or in this case, an airport before the security (I KNEW it was gonna happen eventually)

The best anti-terrorism isn't huge security, its top notch prevention. Finding plans before they happen, and stopping them.

I don't know if this is true but I heard Chechnya terrorists were behind this, evidently that is what Russia initially reported but I'm not sure if that was retracted.

The IRA said that they have the better chance of victory because if they plot 20 bombings, the British need to stop all twenty while the IRA needs only one to succeed for them to "win" so to speak.

What type of CIA plot allows a terrorist action to happen as part of being undercover? Ramirez would have sorted that shit out.

Well he's talking about WWII when the Chinese bomb pearl harbor and they commuted suicide by running their planes into the ship.

its because we're american, mostly, and if it doesn't happen to one of us, we don't really care.

Or something. We're really not helping that perception anyways.

Moving on to the OP, if this is part of a seperatist movement, how does this help that movement? Even if they formed a new state, they can't realistically do it without Western support since Russia certainly won't help them, and that is state is associated with acts of terrorism against the local regional powerhouse, we won't support them. Georgia tried something similar (even though Russia pretty much engineered that conflict to a degree) and found itself very alone because it fired the first shot.

@Commando Dude: This was suitably ironic as well

[up]factions of the US Federal Government support chechen independence, esp. the right-wing factions in the USA (e.g. John Mc Cain). Russian Media is bitching about how some in the US government refer to the insurgents as "rebels" instead of "Terrorists".

its because we're american, mostly, and if it doesn't happen to one of us, we don't really care.

"Americans" on the internet are just as ruthless to "fellow americans", at least on some parts of the internet.

So keep up the tasteless jokes guys evil grin

I'm reminded of reading spacebattles.com jokes on Mumbai and people saying they wish the terrorists hit the call centers in the city tongue

I can see us supporting them but I've seen them referred to within the government as terrorists. They are rebels in that they are resisting Russian influence and we would support them on that merit alone but I don't think it has been anything but token. If anything, we are worried about them, not so much as them attacking us, but that different groups that are against us have been studying them.

So I can't see us really supporting them.
