SMBZ did things that I didn't even think were possible in Flash. It's no surprise it became a bit too much work for him.
Well, I'm definitely not surprised at all. Still, sad to hear it though. It's been a good ride. I remember first discovering the first 5 episodes, and being amazed by it. A shame.

You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!Definitely. Before SMBZ I didn't think flash movies on the Internet could have a HSQ. It was like the vidja game fan fic I always wanted to read, in audio visual form.
There's always the hope that one day, he might look back, decide the story deserves an ending and come back to it.
It's unlikely, and even if it did happen, it would probably be years from now, but still maybe one day, the story will be finished.

One Strip! One Strip! It's actually more likely that Alvin gives his plot draft to whoever has enough spriting know-how and free time to take up the series. Of course that's assuming the reason for the cancellation is solely based on animation and has nothing/little to do with writing.
Alvin's considering opening a Patreon to help restart the series. He also mentions in the comments that he's working on a new opening for said reboot.
He appears cautiously optimistic about moving forward with the series now, compared to how he was when he put it on indefinite hiatus; he mentions that he was younger and more naive back then, which allowed the popularity of the show, the constant fan input/interaction, and his apparently horrible day job get to him, affecting his will to work on SMBZ. He hopes that he'll be able to muster enough determination to actually finish the series, especially since he's had ideas for how the reboot would work for a while now.
Hopefully this idea proves fruitful for Alvin. I'll support him when I get the opportunity.
I wish him well. Super Mario Bros. Z was an amazing project.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.As do I.
I wonder how he'll change things up.
I can only imagine how he'll improve Episode 6, if it even needs improving that is.
One Strip! One Strip!I'm glad that he's come around to the series again, and hopefully the stress and fan-base won't get to him like before. I'm also hoping that there isn't any issues with copyright watchdogs, which I can easily see happening.
Good god, can't believe it's been more than three years since I last posted.
SMBZ holds a very special place in my heart. It was a Playstation Magazine bit gushing about Episode 3 that first got me on Newgrounds, and it's from joining its fan forum that I've become the internet-savvy man I am today. To see it not only come back, but in such a spectacular way, is just leaving me in heavenly bliss. I've always wished Alvin the best of luck, and I hope he can handle a second go.
What's most interesting is the drastic change in the environment. Youtube has, more than ever before, cemented itself as the epicenter of video entertainment, internet celebrity has lost its novelty with hundreds of people literally living off their content, and the art of spriting has long-since died, preserved chiefly through the likes of Death Battle and Lowbrow Studios. Here's hoping that Alvin not only still proves to be the top dog, but makes as big a mark on Youtube as he did on Newgrounds all those years ago.
That would be really cool, actually. I used to love SMBZ. And I think I'll love it even more now that I know about more than just the Mario aspect to it.
...I need to rewatch the series now.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby! It's coming!
Now all I need to do is figure out how to synch the intro to Wanna Be Crazy...
A corpse should be left well enough alone...HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGH.
Is this real life?
I hope he's ready for this, considering the reason why a reboot was necessary in the first place.
but HOW?So King Boo & King K. Rool are going to appear in the reboot? Cool! In all honesty, I hope this reboot does well.
Going from the fact that there's a remake of the first scene of the first episode in his youtube it does look like the story will be mostly the same.
I remember reading that Alvin once planned to have three 15-episode story arcs, plus three feature length films. I think for the reboot he should stick to getting the first story arc done before planning anything else. Count your chickens before they hatch after all.
Oh man, never thought I'd see the old Alvin logo ever again. Already getting tears in my eyes.
I don't remember the films, but I definitely remember the arcs. It was kind of a running joke of whether or not he'd finish the first one in this lifetime, and then he cancelled it.
I kinda hope he retcons the whole "Sonic's friends die" thing, its kinda out of place for what's a parody series for the most part.
Someone mentioned this on another forum, but just have Metal beat them up and just have Sonic & Shadow be the only ones who can chase him.
Also, I really hope he tones down on Shadow's personality...he may be an expy of Vegeta to an extent, but that doesn't mean he has to act exactly like him.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.
To be fair, it's revealed that there was an in-story reason for Shadow's increased aggression during the story.
The death of Rogue at the hands of Metal Sonic with her actually dying in his arms left him more than a little testy.
One Strip! One Strip!I've never expected the death of all Sonic's friends to stick.
Given what this series is a parody of, I took it as a given that they would somehow use the Chaos Emeralds to resurrect everybody who died once Metal Sonic was defeated.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Omega was also killed/destroyed when Metal went on his rampage which likely didn't help (He was one of Shadow's good friends after all along side Rouge). Considering how brutal Metal was about killing all of Sonic and Shadow's friends it's not surprising that the heroes have a few issues. I don't even want to imagine what happened when Sonic found Cream shot to pieces and Tails with his neck broken. Let alone what happened to Amy and Knuckles....
I didn't expect it either. Now I look back on it Sonic and Shadow handled the brutal deaths of there friends and the destruction of there planet a lot better then most.

I don't blame him, and I think it's good that he finally made it official. Creative projects often grow increasingly trying the further into the middle one gets. And if one isn't doing it to pay the bills, then motivation can slip away all too quickly (I'm not saying he should've or did do SMBZ for money, but if art isn't one's source of income that can take away a huge source of motivation.).
No way he's here, reading this, but thank you Alvin for all the hard work. It was a blast.
