Chaste Toons and Nephewism ... merge? rename? both?: Chaste Toons

There are various problems with these two pages. The first is that, despite what the difference may actually be between them, the pages are explicit that they are technically the same trope in different mediums. Either that's true and they need to be merged, or it's not and a better explanation needs to be provided.

Next, the names. "Nephewism," and the quote that named it, both sound more like they refer to the Chaste Toons trope. Meanwhile, "Chaste Toons" also sounds like it refers to a different (though related) phenomenon. It's also pretty narrow. Examples need not necessarily be 'toons (or chaste, really; who knows what kind of shenanigans Hilda and Zelda surely must have gotten up to over the 700 or so years they've been alive?).

Another problem I have is the general attitude of the latter article, that the trope only exists because viewers would be uncomfortable with the idea of cartoon characters having sex (as opposed to, say, the convenient ability to have the kids out of the picture some of the time without viewers wondering what happened to them). The description could easily be edited, but then that leaves the trope with an even less appropriate name.

My proposal is to just merge them and use Nephewism as the new article's name. If there is a reason to have more than one article, the other article Needs A Better Name.

The problem here is that they could be separate but their written to be exactly the same.

Chaste Toons describes Nephewism, but mostly describes Nephewism in the context that it is a way writers remove Fridge Logic about cartoons characters having intimate relationships. It's basically: "Using nephews means cartoon characters don't need to have their own kids and by extension have had sex."

Which, for the sake of describing the actual tropes in play, leaves the two muddled, as the description is entirely dependent on Nephewism to the point of not being necessary itself.

I say we rewrite Chaste Toons to be about cartoon characters never having anything beyond innocently romantic relationships, and fuse both the descriptions and the examples of the way it's written currently into Nephewism, as Chaste Toons desription is just a little bit better than Nephewisms.

So, how does one put up those little banners that indicate that a trope has discussion about possible repair? I think this could get some weight behind it if people actually were aware of the thread.

[up] Create a thread in Trope Repair Shop and tag the article in the thread.

Up at the top of the thread there is the text "see the stale discussion rreport" and right next to it is image.

Click it and type in the Wiki Word article name that you want the tag on. Only one page can be tagged though.

It's been two months since this was active. Is there any interest in doing this right now?
