New SotR. Someone finds a way to worry Cammi. And the latex catsuit is definitely a necessity.

You know, I never really found Catwoman attractive. Aaina might convince me of the type's benefits, eventually.

Well, that pick-up line in the last panel is new for me. Is it a good one or a bad one, though? I have no experience in the subject.

That’s new to you ?

Also I think as a rule, all pick up lines are considered terrible. Whether or not it comes across as charming or repugnant depends entirely on who’s saying it.

[up]Yep. And this is why flirting is BS.

Anyway... Sandra... please stop being a shitty person.

Re-read the old Anette strips to remember who she was. So is she living/friends with Catwoman, then?

[up][up][up] Like all pickup lines, it has the potential to backfire spectacularly. I haven’t seen that one used in a long time and found it slyly charming, especially since Sandra essentially opened the door for it with the “woman in uniform” compliment. I can’t remember the circumstances of how she and Annette met and Annette’s not on the character page, so their history is a mystery to me.

Same way she met Aaina, actually. Short, clearer version:

Lavali and Sandra went to a lesbian club (brought by Lukas, the guy working with Zoe's nemesis) to get Lavali out of her lesbian shell. Anette instantly took a liking to Sandra, who was intoxicated and went along with it. Anette introduced her friend Aaina, who they have since had more contact with. Anette and Aaina left early because Drunk Sandra was too sexually adventurous for what Anette was ready for. Aaina, who was also crushing on Sandra, lied to keep them from telling Anette about the slumber party they had with Lavali (where Aaina's crush increased, and Lavali wound up still not getting any). Lavali was crushing on Aaina, who didn't realize it.

This series is getting quite complicated.

Yep. Hadn't heard it mentioned for a long time. I always thought of it as being on the list of corny/excessive pick-up lines, only to be deployed with a straight face if you were pretty sure that the target had already consented.

Others on he list:

  • "My name is <X>. Remember it now, you'll be screaming it later."
  • [Dampen finger and use it to tap target on the shoulder.] "Come on, let's get you home and out of those wet clothes."
  • "Get your coat on — you've pulled."

I've never really done pick-up lines as most of my relationships have grown out of being friends/acquaintances first and/or internet dating, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but it seems like they work best when there's a little twist to them that makes genuinely unexpected and funny. Like back in the early 2000s a guy I knew would approach a girl, say "I wanna have your baby", and if she was amused by the icebreaker, at that point he'd introduce himself and ask if she wanted to talk or share a drink. (Slightly less copacetic now because of trans issues and one should never assume from appearances.)

Much more bluntly but also amusingly I also knew a girl who at least once used the "Nice shoes, wanna fuck?" line on another girl... who was barefoot at the time. Don't know if a guy could have pulled it off, but coming from another girl it changed things a bit.

I don't imagine pick-up lines actually work well, unless the person you're talking to is already receptive to them/your advances/you, but I'm also not exactly their intended audience, so meh.

They're basically ice-breakers, not really meant to make someone interested in you so much as to open up with something, hopefully something that will make them laugh or at least be amused at your clever wordplay, same reason why people generally start speeches with a joke, or at least something formulaic, even if it's "Ladies and Gentleman", which I suppose is probably a more inclusive phrase these days if one can do that without making it sound like you're making fun of the pronoun/gender expansion.

As for success rates... when I have used them, they generally have elicited a laugh, but that's probably because I usually used them on people I already had some connection with. With strangers, I usually use a more regular conversational ice-breaker.

I always assumed that they were a collection of laddish jokes rather than anything that would be expected to work, and I had little opportunity and less inclination to try them in my single life. But if a girl is amused enough by a laddish joke to give the guy a srcond glance (you know, “GSOH” is important and all that) — well, weirder things have indeed worked, I guess.

I feel like I'd try to pin the sugar to my shirt before I realized it wasn't actually a name tag. And then it would take me a good minute to figure why I'd been given sugar.
