Well, it's kinda necessary to clearly show just how out of touch Didi is with professional wrestling; I mean, the only pro wrestler she knows is probably only known to her because, well, he's the codifying "father" of modern pro wrestling as we know it since the '90s till today (i.e. he's so famous and frequently referenced outside pro wrestling that most adult people in North America can at least immediately tell you "Oh, he's that famous wrestler guy, right?" even if they don't know anything else about him).

In fact, when I hear "hulk hogan", my first thought is "he's Spence from Thunder in Paradise." Since I never watched Pro Wrestling (and I'm not even sure it was aired on one of the free French channels), that series was my first exposure to him.

I mean hogan was definitely around during the 90s, but by then it was the time of The Rock, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. I don't think hogan actually retired till the mid 2000s.

Yeah, I know Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock (I think he should act under the name "Rock Johnson"), and Macho Man. That's about it.

(This keyboard with dead keys turns Macho Man into "Mao Ma". I thought that was interesting.)

I don't know, but bear in mind that Marie is young, impressionable, and has been subject to some fairly weird experiences and comedy misunderstandings lately. I can believe that she might be a little confused.

One also notes that these two comics are running in amusing parallels at the moment, as Ruby is also freaking out over what should be a very straightforward decision over her sexuality, if she didn't over-complicate things.

What's particularly amusing about that is that SOTR's strips are still catching up from December. So if you were to archive binge the comics by date, they wouldn't be in parallel at all.

Well, that was easier than I thought. "Acting" is a pretty apt description of the theatrical side of pro wrestling, to be honest; Roxie is right that most actors don't have the physical prowess to do what pro wrestlers do on a regular basis, though.

You know, I once commented to my wife (then my girlfriend), about what I saw as an interesting correlation between sex in video games and the actual progression people go through, and how it might influence things. Most games where you can have an encounter proceed in very much a grind fashion where you have to do action A 3-5 times, then action B 3-5 times and so on. Makes one wonder which way the grinding towards grinding goes.

Then again, I have seen mention in books before that there is actually a progression that humans follow in almost every culture from hand-holding to hugging to kissing to petting to actual sex, and breaking the order is what tends to trigger people thinking it's "too fast" or "slutty behavior" rather than the actual speed.

There is no "sorta", Roxie, you are an actress. Your performance being a bit unorthodox doesn't change that fact. It is not like all acting and all stages are the same, anyway.

I had to google round and ask on the comic's boards, but basically, as I understand it - a lesbian pollen story involves a lesbian wrestler (invariably a heel) distracting or confusing a straight opponent by trying to seduce her.

So actually not far from what Didi's imagining, then.
