Ones that are simply good:

Honorable mentions and/or I found particularly enjoyable:

Tried to put them in a rough order. Give or take a position or two depending on my mood.

Probably a bunch more that I missed or that I am forgetting.

Hello people! Have we forgot Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex? I would have said Code Geass overall if the second season was as good as the first.

[up][up][up] I don't get that K-On Nostalgia thing. Isn't that show from 2009?

Also, I just watched Higurashi and it's pretty good too.

K-on evokes nostalgia in the viewer for those carefree days of highschool.

It's one of the reasons it's so popular.

AzuDai is targeted at people who are actually in high school.

I guess it is.

If choosing an absolute single anime series out of that decade, for me, it's Planetes, without any doubt. (Excellent mention to Uchuu No Stellvia, Mujin Wakusei Survive and Toradora, though.)

Movie-wise, I'd say The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

It has got to be FLCL for me, I just love everything about the series.

I'm surprised so many people are listing Code Geass...I guess the backlash against it was more of a vocal minority? In any case, it's definitely high on my list too.

Apart from that, for me, hmmm...Spice and Wolf, Clannad, Bakemonogatari...I'm sure there are a few others, but I can't bring them to mind at the moment. (Admittedly, I like Spice and Wolf more for its source material than for the anime itself. The anime didn't really do it justice.)

...That's quite difficult, since it covers most of the anime I watch^^'

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (+Lagann-hen), The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya (+Disappearance), Kenichi The Mightiest Disciple, To Aru Majutsu No Index... And special mentions for Koreha Zombie Desuka and Kamen No Maid Guy which are awesome but too short ><.

For mangas...That would be too hard, so I'll just put the one everyone else will forget : The Legend Of Koizumi, because SUPER-ARYAN HITLER FTW it's the most over-the-top manga I ever read, and probably the Most Triumphant Example of Serious Business ever.

It should be 2001-2010. *

Anyways, I'd go with Spirited Away, Summer Wars, ARIA, The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Rebuild Of Evangelion 1.0 and 2.0, and Tokyo Magnitude 8.

Turn A Gundam ended in 2000. It counts!

2001 and beyond? Ugh...tough one...I haven't enjoy much of the newer things (TTGL was good but I wouldn't call it the best...)

I've been having more fun with 80s and 90s than anything the 2000s spit out...

Panty And Stocking With Garterbelt, Samurai Champloo, Paranoia Agent, Durarara, Black Lagoon, Ghost In The Shell:Stand Alone Complex, Full Metal Alchemist, (Both the 2003 anime and Brotherhood.) Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Big O, Five Centimeters Per Second, the Rebuild Of Evangelion flicks and what is probably my all time favorite anime, FLCL.

It's been a hell of a decade.

Edit: Derp Madoka came out this year.
