It's a Word of Saint Paul thing that a lot of people subscribe too. I think it would add a bit more nuance to the Chozo so I'm willing to accept it.

My fanon is that they're an extremely dualistic species in their mode of thought (not the philosophy, just two contrasting mindsets). Their culture highly values hunters, yet they only eat vat meat to preserve the environment. Warriors are an exalted caste, yet despite their love of combat they prefer peace. They're deeply spiritual and attune with nature, yet they achieve it with super-advanced science and technology and have no compunctions against any of the Scale of Scientific Sins.
I saw this and thought of Bocaj.
Life is tough for Samus.
The world is vastly improved by that existing.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersQUALITY.

She gets along with her coworkers.
I like to think that Samus's Ridley cosutume is actually made out of Ridley corpse bits. Lord knows she's exploded him enough times to have enough parts.
...That might be a bit morbid but oh well.
Click Click Boom BoomNot really that morbid if you play Monster Hunter.
When I saw the egg I was expecting a joke involving something akin to PTSD.
Am I a horrible person?
I'm sorry.
If we're going by the "the Chozo are exaggerated bird stereotype" theory, I'm not sure that makes sense. Plenty of birds eat eggs, like crows.
Crows are assholes too, which could explain a few things about Chozo culture.
Aren't crows also quite intelligent?
A questioned askedby someone who doesn't live with crows.(The answer is yes)
edit:Since I posted I might as well point out that even though Japanese customers didn't care for it much, Japanese reviewers loved Other M, at least the "important" reviewers like Famatsu.

So? Didn't critics elsewhere like it at least somewhat?
It actually got rather positive reviews at first even in the US. I recall Nintendo Power giving it a 8.5 out of 10, even though their review had a section exclusively for ranting about the Varia lava scene. It was as the years went on that public opinion turned more sour.
That can happen occasionally even with things almost everyone who isn't a critic hates. Once critics realize they're out of sync, they usually revise their opinion later.
Well the thing was the Reviews were postive
Gameplay and visuals were praised... and the story was either considered bland and made Samus Boring or borderline offensive.
Yeah, I seem to recall having a reasonable amount of fun with the gameplay outside of the pixel hunts. It also looks really good. Honestly, I don't think Other M is a bad game but it has a really shitty story that drags everything else down.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!It didn't take years for it to end up in the bargain bins of the US market. Maybe for professional reviewers to turn on it but not general customer. I know this because it was used as evidence by the burn Nintendo crowd that "our" company was a failure.
I don't read a lot of Japanese but from what I get, USA user negativity ran from "Too many cutscenes and needs a control stick!" to "This narrative was sexist!", "You missed the point of Metroidvania!", "Clearly no continuity editor!" or such. The Japanese user response seemed to be more "Too weird, more Super Metroid please." to "You turned Samus from strong woman into regular woman." Similar attitude, but less elaboration, passion and vitriol, which mind you could be me not reading a lot of Japanese, making the messages only seem more subdued to my ignorant eyes. I'm also not learned in Japanese video game culture, so facebook and youtube are where I compared responses.
Famitsu isn't an important reviewer. They were a joke even back then, and they're certainly a joke now.
Speaking of Japan, while I'm 99% sure Federation Force will bomb over there (and in the west to be fair), I'm curious as to whether they might like it more than usual since it seems like FPS Monster Hunter.
You know what? I thought I posted these things in that other Metroid thread...well, it's too late to go back and edit it now, sorry.
I know, let's talk more about that new 3DS Game about the Federation Troopers!edityes, that one.

As always I loved Other M and that makes the rest of you objectively wrong.
But I find everybody's distaste of it somewhat amusing. People have gotten pretty protective of the Metroid series. From Other M all the way to Federation Force, some people just seem to hate things that are different. ;p
From what I know of Japanese culture and language, responses usually seem more subdued when compared to English (especially American English).

If I remember right the old manga talked about them being extremely warlike.
I think some of it is just fanon though. Fanon I'm totally accepting as true.
Oh really when?
