I believ some of the non-logbook scans from Pirate computers in Prime do mention them beleiving that Samus' ship may have a cloaking device since they've been unable to located it. Considering there are a few Pirate Aerotroopers in the Orpheon crash site, right next to Smus' ship, that might be the case. Or Pirates are just kind of dumb.

Regarding Ridley being in charge of the Pirates during Prime

Prime takes place between Metroid and Metroid II. Mother Brain is only presumed dead. She doesn't finally sing her swan song until Super Metroid.

She's alive and well, so I assume when they refer to "Command," they mean her. As Fusion is the only non-Other M title to take place post-Super, we've never actually seen the Space Pirates without Mother Brain at their helm.

I'm positive Samus' gunship has a cloaking device. I'm not sure which game mentions it, or where (I think it might be the first Prime), but I definitely remember reading that confirmation during one of my playthroughs.

That said, Ghor located it. Of course, he's a tech wiz, and the ship was in a very predictable place, but still, gotta mention it.

I assume she would have needed some downtime after having lots of missiles shot into her brain.

[up][up][up][up]It's possible that the crashed ship can't communicate with the main base.

Dark Samus took over in Prime 3.

The pirates didn't have Mother Brain at their helm when they attacked K 2 L.

Mother Brain is more of a supercomputer than anything else, really. Only important for the Zebes-based games, no matter what Sakamoto pretended to do.

She also had a bit of an ego problem in the instance she got characterization, so yeah.

Remember, Prime and Sakamoto went with different ideas about how the Space Pirates work. And, of course, Sakamoto's version is less engaging.

And it makes for a significantly less entertaining sticom.

I really liked pirate society in the Metroid Third Derivative webcomic, played for humor though it was.

Tragically, the comic was cancelled possibly because Corruption confirmed and jossed some stuff but more likely due to personal issues.

Um, hey, if you guys want stuff about the day-to-day life of space pirates I, well, you see, I wrote a fanfiction where Ridley is the main character. It's um, it's... 200 pages. I um, I'd really appreciate it if somebody would read it, because I could really use some feedback.

Is it wacky and humorous?

[up]It is most definitely not wacky, and it isn't really that humorous either. I mean unless you you find the Dark Knight to be funny, which I personally do. Ridley has a very wry, very dark, very morbid sense of humor. Although there is a chapter where Ridley captures a ship carrying drugs and a fire ignites the cargo, leaving Ridley to spend the entire chapter on an acid trip. That one's my favourite.

So I got up to the point in Prime where you're supposed to go to the Impact Crater. Unfortunately I only have 79 of the items. I really wish the first two prime games had a way to see where all the upgrades are.

Here's some commonly-missed ones.

  • Right at the landing site there's a Morph Ball tube behind Samus's ship.
  • In the Space Pirate research lab in Phendrana, there's a research tube that can only be blown up with a Super Missile. You pass it before you get them, though, so you'd be more likely to get it on the way out.
  • Also in there, there's a small rail near the ceiling of one of the labs that you have to Morph Ball across.
  • In the room where you get the Gravity Suit, there's some icicles that you can melt with the Plasma Beam.
  • In Chozo Ruins, there's two Missile Expansions in the room where you fought the Plated Beetle. One requires Bombs and is at ground level, the other requires the Boost Ball and is on the upper level.
  • In that large cavernous room in Magmoor with the floating platforms, there's a set of invisible platforms leading to a missileable pillar.
  • In the wrecked frigate, there's a Missile Expansion hidden behind an old specimen containment pod's door (The one that was nearly being knocked off its hinges by a Sidehopper in the prologue).

Thanks. There's a lot more since I only have 160 missiles but it's a start at least. I think I'm only missing Missile Expansions so if I get really frustrated I'll just pull up a guide.

250 Missiles, 8 Power Bombs, 14 Energy Tanks (They'll be equal to the length of the bar), and a Charge Combo for each beam type (Only Super Missiles are mandatory; Wavebuster, Ice Spreader, and Flamethrower are optional).

At least it's not as bad as in the 2D games where expansions are hidden in completely random chunks of walls or ceiling, with no Scan Visor, sound effect, or different-looking tile to suggest they're important.

Oh! One other commonly-missed thing. In that really large room below the Phazon Mines filled with beam Troopers, there's a wall that you need to use the X-Ray Visor to find and blow up.

I know for a fact I have all the suit upgrades and the Energy Tanks. I'm pretty sure I have 8 Power Bombs. I guess I just need to track down all the missiles that are left over. I don't need them but I never actually did a 100% run in Prime and it's about time I do that.

Besides the Scan Visor detecting instabilities and such, your best friend in searching for expansions are your ears- listen for that very low whirring noise that upgrades and expansions give off, and you know there's something in the room to find.

I never really paid attention that. I guess I have to start. I'm not sure if I'll bother doing that for Prime 2 when I get to it.

Man, all this talk of Prime 1 reminds me that I need to do my annual Trilogy playthrough before summer is over.

Yes, I do play through all three games every summer. Yes, I still greatly enjoy the games despite playing them that frequently. No, I do not have a problem. tongue

I think I've played Prime 1 at least 15 times now, probably more.

When I was going for 100% completion I printed off a checklist and marked off the stuff that I had gotten, so that if I missed anything and had to backtrack, I wouldn't end up wasting time checking spots I had already gotten them.

I did the same with Prime 2. Though admittedly, I think with Prime 2 I didn't get the checklist printed out til I was already mostly done with the game. Come to think of it I think I almost beat Prime 2 before restarting Prime 1 for a 100% completion run. Which is when I started the checklists. But I don't remember for sure been so long. Surprisingly, though despite it being at least 5-8 years, I still have both checklists.

On the note of my Metroid Prime 2 playthrough really glad the Dark Suit doesn't take that long to get. Traversing Dark Aether in just the Varia suit is such a pain.

Speaking of Prime 2 do they ever explain what's in Dark Aether's environment that makes it hurt you?
