Well, I didn't see any threads for this, so I figured I'd make one.

First thing off for me, I made the mistake of enabling the Drassen counterattack, and I'm getting my ass kicked by a couple companies.

Strange, I seem to have run into a bug; I can't seem to do the Alt-LMB sales. It's enabled in the ini, though.

That's pretty strange, indeed.

Oh, how I love JA 2 1.13. It's probably the best TBS game I've played yet.

It's a strategy game that I don't completely suck at.

I seem to suck at it.

And the no sale thing is changing my strategy; time to make a charge on Drassen before the money runs out...

Argh, more bugs; now the game sometimes freezes up when I go to the strategy map.

  • I can give orders and such, but I can't save, load, unpause time, go to options, or use the laptop function.

Maybe I should delete everything and reinstall it.

Good advice forthe start: don't choose the absolutely "best" (read: most expensive) mercenaries. Three of'em are enough, my types are Wolf, Steroid and Ice. Then you get Ira and Dimitri, who fight for free. Once you clear Drassen, the funds will start flowing in.

I usually try to get five cheap mercenaries, like Bull and MD.

Upgraded to WINE 1.3 something beta, with winetricks. Now the INI Editor works, but the sound doesn't work, at all.

It's WINE, of course it'll suck and screw up.

Always, always get Barry. Great demolition expert.

Changed sound drivers, and now it seems to work pretty well. This playthrough seems more brutal, though.

Barry's pretty decent in general, to start with. Cheap, too. Steroid is actually pretty damn good; crazy good shot, crazy good mechanic, and buff as hell.

And actually, I've never used explosives or anything. I really need advice on how to use them.

  • I mean, I know how to use them, set timer and drop (don't have any radio detonators yet), but more than that, when and why to use them.

when and why to use them.
I had difficulties using them for anything else than breaching walls. But when you need an unexpected entry, you should consider those babies.

Picked this up a few weeks back.

Cannot... stop... playing.

After 2 disastrous attempts (one of which locked me out of AIM for some reason), I've tweaked the .ini files in my favor and am now in the thick of the Drassen counterattack, which has taught me that Raven makes a surprisingly good automatic rifleman. Especially when you hand her an MG3. Also I'm praying that Revy Meltdown stays this good at CQC into the late game.

I'm not having many problems with the counterattack (lowest difficulty and being a dirty cheater helps), but any advice for Alma? I'm thinking it might be a good idea to pack whatever heavy weapons I can fit on my mercs without breaking their backs...

I picked up JA 2 and the 1.13 mod at the advice of /k/ on that other imageboard a few months back. Good Lord, this game is unforgiving if you mess up! And I love it because of it! I've probably messed up about 4 games so far, but my current game is going well. Drassen, Chitzena, Cambria, and Alma under control and I just put down the worms that appeared in the Drassen mines. Cambria's mines are starting to deplete. My current squad consists of my IMP character, Berry, Grunty, Igor, Spider, Hitman, Ira, Dimitri, and Maddog. Everybody is mostly armed with 7.62x51mm or 7.62x39mm weapons and Grunty is carrying an MGL 40mm grenade launcher with HE rounds and Igor has an RPG 7.

WHAT A HORRIBLE NIGHT TO HAVE A DIALOG BOX INTERRUPT GAMEPLAY.

The new stable build of v1.13 was released a while ago. Might want to wait for at least two weeks for some annoying bugs to get ironed out, however.

One of the major changes (for those who didn't mod the v.1.13 with additional mods) is a new Chance-To-Hit system, as described here.

Bumping this thread. I recently bought this game on a steam sale the other day and I'm keen to check this out as soon as Exams are done.

People have said that the 1.13 fan mod is a must have, does it conflict with steam in any way? If so, is there a way to bypass this issue?

Don't know since I'm using my old JA2 copy for this, so you might want to go to the Bear Pit 1.13 forums for that and more.
