For awhile I've been looking to get into turn based strategy games on the PC, more specifically 4X titles. I've already decided that i would get Civilization IV, but I'm not sure what other titles I should get. Any suggestions?

Age Of Mythology, if you can find it, is a great RTS.

My default response will alway be Supreme Commander, but it's really not a 4X title.

Battle For Wesnoth is pretty cool. And it's free!

Discover the rest as the game progresses.

If you like Civilization, reach back into the past for Alpha Centauri, it's that good.

I was going to recommend Evil Genius before you said turn-based.

Er... Fallout Tactics?

I'm seconding Galactic Civilizations II, but just make sure that you get the Dark Avatar or Twilight of the Arnor expansion - you'll get FAR more bang for your buck.

I strongly recommend Master Of Orion II - it's old, but I haven't come across anything else quite like it. The starship-design system in that game is still the deepest unit-customization system in any strategy game, even after >10 years - and it's pretty approachable, too. It's not as balanced as Gal Civ II on the whole, but having played both games I would say MOO 2 has a lot more personality. If in doubt, get both.

You may have to use GOG to get it, though, which might not be to some people's taste considering the shenanigans they were pulling not so long ago.
