Japan's pretty good at its weird stuff, and Eastern Animation has run dry of opportunities for me. What's the weirdest or most bizarre anime/manga you've seen/read? Deranged Animation is always a plus here, as is High Octane Nightmare Fuel. Trippy stuff. Psychological.

I've seen:

Just to give an idea.

Anything artsy and experimental additionally works too.

Serial Experiments Lain

I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serial

Bakemonogatari. its a little less weird than some of the anime you listed, but is it surreal? Oh hell yes.

Potemayo. Mostly a relaxed comedy, but nowhere else will you find a moe-blob with Wave-Motion Gun horns.

Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.

If you haven't seen Paranoia Agent, THEN SEE IT!

Also, FLCL is a much better recommendation than Excel Saga. Baccano is good, too.

Seconding both Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei and Bakemonogatari. Panty and Stocking is a mindfuck of the less-surreal variety.

...Damnit, Studio SHAFT.

It's been fun.

Seconding Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, obviously you're not looking very hard if you didn't know that.

I'm not interested in Panty and Stocking really.

If you haven't seen Paranoia Agent, THEN SEE IT!
v_v I know. My list of things to see is already too long.

Cat Soup. Surely I couldn't have forgotten that one.

The mindfuckery of EoE is something I'd look for, though.

Kaiba looks interesting for the information.

Good suggestions, guys.

It's a different sort of mindfuck, but how about the When They Cry series?

In both, the first part of the mystery is figuring out if they're really mysteries.

Bo Bo Bo Bo Bo Bo Bo. Though it's more like Monty Pythons Flying Circus meets Affectionate Parody of Shōnen.
