Even so, I still kinda wish they'd called him Red. I mean, that's what he's called in his (H)G/(S)S appearance as the Bonus Boss!
I sure said that!But he's not playable in G/S/C/HG/SS!
But he's not playable in those games! [edit: /ninja'd] And yet, he's playable in this, as well as the games that his design is based on. The defense rests.

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.I'd have preferred Satoshi to be honest but I can see why they'd never go for that.
Ash is an anime only character. Doesn't mean it wouldn't have been good, but still...

"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."Likewise, most people probably would've preferred Ash*, but he's an anime-exclusive and English-exclusive as well.
FRICKIN' NINJAS, HOW DO THEY WORK

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.True but just as many people would have hated that since they think Ash is an idiot.
You know what this means, right? In order to have a compromise, we need Team Rocket's most famous members in there. And it works as them being video game characters since they've been in Pokemon Yellow too!

"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."Ash has been on a Nintendo system, before. But the anime counterpart to Red is not actually as popular, or was a game character first. Well, Red actually was.
But anyway, was Onion Knight on the DS or GBA versions of the Final Fantasy games? If not, a generic variation of Warrior of Light makes more sense.
I'd still rather have Black Mage or Terra, anyway.
Quest 64 threadOnion Knight was, I believe.
I personally think that White or Black Mage would be the way they'd go.
Somehow when you guys say White Mage and Black Mage I always think of 8BitTheater.
Suddenly I want them in Smash with those characterizations.

Good one.
Yeah, I know. A guy can dream, though.
Gilgamesh is probably the best choice - he's not just a job class, and has more appearances, main series or otherwise, than any other FF character. Coupled with his widely varying moves and considerable popularity, he is likely the best character to represent the entire series. In addition, he did originate in a game on a Nintendo home console.
( And I think I made a post incredibly similar to this a while back, but I can't find it.)

...Ash was in Puzzle League, but he doesn't originate from a video game and thus is banned. Thank God.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Hey, that was a fun game. As a kid, I had so much trouble wrapping my head around the cylinder variant, though.
I have a message from another time...No, but the point remains that if Sakurai wanted to put him in, he could've. As a third party.
But anyway, while Gilgamesh is interesting, I'd want atleast one base protagonist. White Mage or Black Mage or Terra are all main protagonists. Which works well in this case.
Quest 64 threadHell yes, I'd love to see Lip added.
Quest 64 threadPuzzle Quest.
Yeah, it cheats, but I like the premise.
I have a message from another time...Oh, I did love Pokemon Puzzle League. I still play it.
But we never play as Ash. I always play as Giovanni and Koga. My sister plays as Misty.

If it's a Final Fantasy character, it would almost definitely be one that appeared as a playable character in Mario Hoops 3-on-3 or Mario Sports Mix.
