That's no real excuse to not try and make it good though. Like Melee quality at the very least.

But that's no excuse for turning what we have into worse things.

64 and Melee had adequate single player modes. Brawl went with a grandiose-like adventure mode, but the whole single player felt as procedural as the stage builder.

Brawl also had a Boss Rush mode. The coin launcher or whatever it's called is also more fun than the crate break thing.

3DS's classic mode is better, since you choose where to go and you have at least some agency in what you get for prizes.

...That being said, Smash Run beats both of those by being more replayable.

Wii U's Classic Mode is an abomination. And poorly-named.

Good single player modes are mandatory in SSB. Not everyone plays online or has RL friends into the game. Personally, however, I'm not interested in the traditional single player. It gets boring going through each level with each character in each new installment. I just want another story mode with cutscenes and a plot.

I'd at least like something that brings out the platformer side of the game more, like Subspace Emissary.

Just cutscenes...?

Series specific for character groups?

Adventure mode style?

That'd be better.

Yeah, nowadays most fighting games have a mandatory story mode, though that quality of those varies.

Another Subspace or a story mode in Smash 5 would be really cool. I would love to see what kind of crazy and unlikely partnerships could come from that.

Like, i don't know, maybe Luigi, Shulk and Duck Hunt becoming really good friends.

Adventure was more enjoyable for me than Subspace. Quick strolls through levels inspired by the original franchises is more enjoyable that what is pretty much a photorealistic Kirby game.

It was long, but not bad to each of their own.

I see you where you're coming from, but I waited far too long for a mode like this to finally appear. X-Men, Bomber Man, & Sonic All-Stars Racing are only games I can think of. Pretty sure there's more (particularly indies games), but they're not like Smash 4. Plus you don't have to actually play it. I mean who's play Custom Mode?

Actually while I'm at it, have a better option for Custom Mode. It's been 3 games already, I should have the option to customize the amount of stamina/health in the game by now.

Also while I'm at it, if I'm going to be actually realistic about it have a 4 player Adventure Mode & whenever there's a 1 one 1 fight have the option who's fight 1st while the other players be use as extra stocks.

I made an image detailing my wish list of characters I'd love to see in Smash for Switch. Some of those characters are likely, others are... longshots, to say the least, but they're all characters I'd want in the game.

This is not the greatest signature in the world, no... this is just a tribute.

For these wish rosters, I usually see there being less than 6 Fire Emblem characters.

Odds for non-returning characters who haven't already been confirmed.

Paper Mario: I'd say he's unlikely, but then again both Link and Toon Link are in it, so I guess he's plausible. 7:1.

Cranky Kong: Eh, maybe. Nintendo would want to give him a unique moveset, maybe based on the arcade games, but I doubt they're interested. 7:1.

Funky Kong: Possible but doubtful. 10:1.

Toon Zelda: Yes please! While Nintendo doesn't seem to have much interest in the toon-style gaems at the moment, Toon Zelda is definitely an option if they want to add to the Zelda representation. 3:1.

Impa: Less likely. Impa is usually an elderly caretaker who provides exposition. However, she was middle-aged in Ocarina of Time and appeared young in Skyward Sword, in which games she played a cool ninja who did a lot of badass stuff offscreen. She also had a playable role in Hyrule Warriors, using the Skyward Sword design, and was awesome. Since Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition is coming out around the same time, I imagine Nintendo would want to do some cross-promotion. 3:1.

Sylux: No. He appeared in a single spinoff game that made little impact. 100:1.

Wolf: I'd like it if Wolf came back but I'm not holding out hope. 5:1.

Miyu and Fay: Hmm. Star Fox 2 was only released last year but it's technically over 20 years old. I think that if they add a Star Fox woman, Krystal is more likely. 10:1.

Sceptile: I haven't played a Pokémon game since Silver, and stopped following the franchise around then. No rating.

Medusa: I like. The main obstacle is Sakurai not wanted to overrepresent series he's involved in. 5:1.

Fiora: I haven't played Xenoblade, so I can't say how likely this is. No rating.

Rex: He's going to be in it without a doubt. 1:10.

Black Shadow: If F-Zero does get another representative, it's more likely to be Samurai Goroh, who has been there from the beginning, has a personal enmity with Falcon, and is present as an assist trophy. This also would require Nintendo to increase F-Zero representation, but that series is officially dormant. 20:1.

Diskun: Woah boy this is obscure. I doubt it; while ROB had an international release, the Famicon Disk System was only released in Japan, and Nintendo likely wants to keep the roster to characters who have at least been released in America. 100:1.

Labo Man: Quite likely, since Nintendo is betting on the Labo and heavily promoting it. Even if Labo Man himself isn't there, I figure we'll at least get a stage or two. Even money.

Ryu Hayabusa: Definitely plausible. Koei Tecmo is very friendly with Nintendo these days, and ninjas are always good. 3:1.

Billy and Jimmy: Jaysus, Double Dragon is a blast from the past. It's definitely possible, but I question how relevant that series is. 10:1.

Tracer: Dude, longshots are one thing, but they have to be possible. ∞:1.

Raiden: Unlikely. Raiden is eligible under the same criteria that allowed Cloud in, but he's not going to get in ahead of Snake returning. Also, Konami is probably too toxic to deal with right now. 1000:1.

Ice Climbers: The only reason they weren't in Smash 4 is that the developers couldn't get them to work on the 3DS and they wanted roster parity between the 3DS and Wii U versions. No way they'll be left out of the Switch version. 1:100.

Also, I can't help but notice you left out Candy Kong and Roy.

I want cutscenes. I was so disappointed that 4 didn't have any. They introduce Mega Man and he doesn't have any story relevance? Such a missed opportunity. I doubt 5 will have one - story modes take a long time to make - but I'd pay for a story DLC.

I'd prefer if they replaced Toon Link with Tetra. Three Link's is overkill, and honestly Toon Link is too similar to Link for me.

I'm expecting BOTW Link to just be a slightly reworked Link, they probably won't be separate characters.

Hm... honestly, if they wanted they could probably completely overhaul Link's moveset with Bot W-related stuff and just have Toon Link represent the old moveset, but changing one of the original 12 characters that much would probably not go over very well. x3

I don't expect much in the way of a moveset overhaul for Link. Maybe one of his specials like the Bombs or Boomerang changed to better represent BOTW, but otherwise just a design change.

Yeah, I'm not expecting Marth to be cut any time soon since he's pretty much the poster boy of the Fire Emblem series. Ike's more likely to get cut than he is.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm sure as hell not expecting it, just if it were up to me to choose a Fire Emblem character to be cut, Marth would be higher on the list than Robin or Lucina (though Roy would be higher than everyone else).
