This phrase makes absolutely no sense to me

64 came out in 1999 and brawl came out in 2008 so 64 was 9 years old when brawl came out. Now that brawl is 10 years old, it is older than 64 was when brawl came out.

On the one hand, I really like him (or at least the idea of him) and it's high time he made his triumphant comeback. On the other, I really, really want Dixie Kong and King K. Rool too, and five Donkey Kong reps feels a little excessive.

Well, there's implications that Donkey Kong Jr. is the modern DK, but that means little anyway. Smash doesn't really care if they're the same person or not as what matters more is the moveset. See: Dr. Mario, Zero Suit Samus, Sheik.

I think we're long overdue for Urban Champion.

There's a bunch of old, forgotten characters that Nintendo has in their lineup that could be included in Smash 5.

Such as Balloon Fighter, Mach Rider, Stanley, Geno, Saki, Isaac, Takamaru, Urban Champion, the Sheriff, or Lip.

Or they could bring in Goku.

You know, from that obscure Nintendo game I've never learnt the name of.

But they fake it out by making it look like the Goku you probably thought of.

I used to be into the "modern DK is DK Jr." theory, but the more I think about it, the less I like it. The Donkey Kong Country manual does say that Cranky is the original arcade Donkey Kong, but old Nintendo manuals are full of dubious lore that neither the games nor the fandom take seriously anymore (check out the enemy descriptions in the original Legend of Zelda NES manual for some Early-Installment Weirdness), so I think it's pretty safe to disregard it.

Yeah, current DK is Jr's son. Jr. would actually be an interesting character in Smash because he'd either be a child or a whole new character design that we've never seen before, between DK and Cranky in age.

If he comes back, I hope he retains his Mario Tennis design. That's still his latest appearance to date, if I'm not mistaken.

I've always wanted an official Mario Donkey Kong multiplayer crossover platformer game, incorporating gameplay from both franchises with 3 or 4 playable characters from both. A game that finally irons out the Mario and Donkey Kong canon, maybe including a scene where Cranky Kong and Mario reconcile.

If they're going to do something like that, I hope they make Jumpman (the proto-Mario from the original arcade Donkey Kong) Mario and Luigi's father. Otherwise, there's still the question of why OG DK became an old man whereas Mario didn't. I know gorillas have shorter lifespans than humans, but, c'mon, that's a depressing explanation.

DK Jr.'s latest appearance is Mario Super Sluggers.

That's actually Baby DK from Yoshi's Island DS.
