Pokemon has more characters and makes more money than half of the franchises in Super Smash Bros. combined, as well as beating out all of the other large franchises individually. Pokemon should have just as many, if not more, playable characters than Mario.
What I'd like to see are items from the Pokémon games that aren't Pokéballs. Like, for instance, a Sitrus Berry item that, once picked up, is kept hands-free on the character's person until they hit a certain percentage, after which a fraction of that is healed (like, say, healing 50% once the character reaches 100% damage; something like a weaker version of the Fairy Bottle that still allows for the use of other items). Or perhaps an Assault Vest, that reduces the amount of damage taken, but at the cost of only being able to use special attacks.
Switch FC code: SW-4420-1809-1805There's only been one clone Pokemon in the whole series so far, and it's the 2nd most popular franchise represented. If any game's going to have a disproportionately large number of representatives, especially if they seem to have no problem making each of them unique, it would be Pokemon.
Pokemon's only second place in terms of game revenue. Overall, Pokemon is the biggest media franchise on Earth.
Non-Pokeball items would be nice but what I want is a Professor Oak Assist Trophy.
No idea what he would do, but...
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! He'd be a Nintendog, but instead of being cute he would just scowl at the players and tell them not to ride their bikes indoors.
Neutralizes Wario's Side-B.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! He's like Mr. Resetti but he isn't out for as long.
It's been 3000 years…IIRC, Oak's gimmick in the anime is making weird haikus out of Pokemon. I can see him doing the same thing here, only instead he picks a random fighter to make a haiku out of.
He'd be useless, and the idea would go over the head of the Western fans of the anime (I don't think the dubs have been consistent with his gimmick), but it's something I can see him doing.
Assist Trophy Guzma, where he beats you down and beats you down and never lets up.
How's that fancy? More like cosplay. :v
I understand Ike Guts, Lucario Vegeta, and Greninja Kakashi, but who are Mega Man and Captain Falcon supposed to be?
It's been 3000 years…I'm guessing Megaman is Metabee from Medabots while Captain Falcon is Captain Harlock.

Pokémon Trainer needs to be added in somehow, even if it's just as Charizard's or Pikachu's trainer in their starting animations. It feels wrong that trainers get no appreciation in SSB.
Honestly having a Pokemon Trainer show in the background for all the Poke-fighters would be hilarious. And they can be a different trainer depending on what Gen the Pokemon, Although they'd need a lot of Pallete Swaps for the sake of 8-player Smash.
Also Geist-Fox, "Fancy Dress Party" is the silly British way to say "Costume Party."

I don't think any franchise should have more reps than Mario (and I think Mario already has too many). Pokemon can have the same number of reps as Mario, but any more and it feels wrong on some level.
I don't agree. Both Link and Zelda have two forms in Smash, so it's only fair/natural to add Ganon too. Besides, Ganon is, well, Ganon. The original form of the franchise's main villain. Skull Kid and Ghirahim are one-offs and Vaati isn't much better (though if I had to pick one of your three, it'd be him).
They're more popular, but I'm always in favor of putting the tried and true over the new hotness. Medusa is the original Kid Icarus villain and the only one that's in more than one game. There's no telling if Viridi and Hades will still be remembered ten years from now.
This is as good an excuse as any to talk about the items I'd like to see. The first is the acorn from Link's Awakening, which halves all damage you take for a limited amount of time. Maybe it lasts as long as the cloaking device.
The second is an orange grenade from Donkey Kong 64. It's basically a Bob-omb that bounces around before exploding, which would be chaos in stages with walls and angles. Also, the tires from Donkey Kong Country, which are like springboards you can push around by walking into them.
Oh, and here's an idea: why not have secret/unlockable items? Items that don't appear until certain conditions are met. These could be ridiculously broken for maximum rage/hilarity. More so than regular items.
For example, 1-up mushrooms. It's about time those things made their Smash debut. Touch one and you automatically get a point/stock. Or the green balloons from Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and Tropical Freeze, which would save you after a fall but not restore any of your damage. Basically a mulligan.
This is a cosmetic change, not a new idea, but poison mushrooms should just look like poison mushrooms. Purple with angry eyebrows and white skull-shaped blotches. No more masquerading as regular Super Mushrooms. There's not a single Smash player in the world that's still fooled, and their "dangerous" design is more fun.
Mr. Resetti is my favorite assist character in Brawl and I hate that they cut him in Smash 4. If they're not going to bring him back, bring in Cranky Kong as a replacement. And make his theme tune play as long as he's onstage.
(Yeah, I know, a lot of Donkey Kong stuff in this post, but DK gets no love in Smash except for trophies, so it's fair.)
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?A throwable javelin or hand-axe item from the Fire Emblem series would be pretty cool, too, considering that there aren't any items from that universe in Smash. Or maybe an Iron Rune that equips like a badge and reduces knockback.

Switch FC code: SW-4420-1809-1805What it's like fighting Marth in Melee.◊
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! The Smash Backroom has released v4 of Smash 4's tier list.
Things to note: They consider every character F and below to be low tier (which I'm not really sure if I agree with E being "mid-tier").
Some of the biggest changes is Mega Man dropping 11 spots, Villager dropping 8, Luigi going up 8, Link going up 7 (and basically the second highest mid-tier after Duck Hunt), and Donkey Kong/Olimar/Duck Hunt going up by 6.
Personal enjoyment out of this: Lucina has risen on every edition of the 4BR tier list.
The Blueberries of Wrath.

I would want a few Pokemon getting in.
I know, I know, there should be at least some franchise balance.
But there's like 800 Pokemon, and quite a few of them are wildly popular. I'm sure it could justify some more members on the roster.
I do writing, feel free to check out my stories here! https://numbugwritingblog.tumblr.com/post/686233243868102656/numbugs-shared-heroic-uni
