I wanted Takamaru as a playable character but maybe next time.
I can still hope for Prince Richard or Prince of Sablé from For the Frog the Bell Tolls. Sure they both wield swords but they turn into Frogs. Prince of Sablé can voluntarily transform into a Frog or a Snake.

I checked out a full playthrough of his game once. He seems to have a lot of potential to be a decent Smasher, but I suppose we'll just have to be content with him getting in as an Assist Trophy.

The situation feels similar to Little Mac in Brawl, except magnified by Takamaru's game only being available in Japan for a significant period, as opposed to Punch-Out being available in all regions but only popular in one. Regardless, I wouldn't be surprised to see him be promoted in SSB 5.
