Ah, I like that particular dialect a lot better than Lolcatese.
I take moderate amounts of offense to that.
Also, you don't need to link my Overviews, those are for me to get my thoughts down and for people to pull out sentences for conversation starters.
I have no horse, and I must ride. I accomplish unlockments. The particular dialect "keyboard Cat"?

DAMMIT. SDM, YOU MADE ME DO THIS.

I sure said that!Gah! Pulse, you made me do this!
CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!
Have you no shame?
I have no horse, and I must ride. I accomplish unlockments.I like a kind of mix between the simple explaining what we know and what we think about the character and the sort of narrativey things. A nice varied thread keeps things interesting.
Also, I spent all day watching a Dr Who marathon instead of writing a thingy for Satori. I'd admit shame but she would know that I was lying.
I'm sure Kisume, at least, understands.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersI have nothing against the in-depth explanations; I just can't write something with a totally disconnected viewpoint. I can write stories; I can't write... essays? Thesises? Biographical accounts?... Those things that Clarste CAN write.
I sure said that!I feel like that disconnected viewpoint is what the thread is all about; it's all about freeing the characters from the constraints of a particular narrative and subjecting them to a deeper level of scrutiny than usual.

I dunno, I feel that "A day in the life of X" is just as valid as total disconnect. Actual big, epic tales are one thing, and then there's Slice of Life.
I sure said that!Actually, I'll change my vote to just Parsee. I may even try to do a write up on her.
Heart of StoneHmmm, this kind of thread really doesn't work without some direction, does it?
Alright, let's do it this way...
We've got 24 people! Well, 23 entries, of which one is two people and three are locations. But anyway, 24/3 makes 8, so I'll divide characters into arbitrary groups of three and post them each day (well, night for me) to link to their write-ups and give people some sort of direction! Alright? Alright!
Let's start with...
The Setting!
Gensokyo, the land where you could ship an astronaut with a bunny girl and have it make some amount of sense.
-by Bocaj
Gensokyo is not a paradise because of youkai tea parties or magical fun, but because it allows humans to be humans and youkai to be youkai.

Lunar Capital ~ Sterility In Silver

Gensokyo in genereal is obviously an interesting subject, since writing about it means writing about your view of the setting as a whole! That's why anyone who writes these things should probably have a write-up for Gensokyo, maybe!
My Gensokyo write-up is a bit of a mess, if I remember correctly, but I'm really proud of the one for the Underground! Like, really proud! I'd put it on my resume if that didn't make me realize how little I've achieved in my life. ... I mean, it's great! Is what I'm saying!
Oh yeah, this is not to say that all the other characters we've already talked about can't be talked about now and it all has to be about those three characters/locations. That's a guideline more so than a rule.
Oh, thank goodness! I was trying to belt out the rest of my writeups ASAP, and was hitting some serious writers' block. Good to know the pressure's off.
I sure said that!Gensokyian Ecology
Shall we start with a quick recap of Gensokyo?
It is a land lost to time, to reality, to consciousness, to both evil & good. A boundary separates this land of dreams from the plane of reality. Fencing in this land in all directions, keeping things in a stasis where no harm may come to this land. Forever sealed away from the world outside this isolated mountainous paradise, Gensokyo, was sealed away to give a home to the Youkai becoming weakened by the change of the outside world.
Youkai: mythological beasts that roamed the ancient world thousands of years ago. They attacked and ate humans to survive as humans attacked and ate the animals smaller than them. Groups of humans were trained to fight and exterminate Youkai, they were known as Youkai exterminators. However, just as Youkai could not survive in a land ruled by humans, they could not survive without them. A small group of humans descended from the Youkai exterminators of ancient times stayed in this land to preserve the balance of this new world. Here, humans and Youkai find peace; acting out the battles of the past.
A set of rules carefully governing combat protecting them from danger, destruction, and death. Youkai cause disasters, and humans have to resolve them. To preserve this ancient balance the spell cards rules were created as thus: Spell cards are named and numbered, Without spell cards the loser must admit defeat, losers are allowed a rematch, and always prepare for the unexpected, as the unexpected should be expected in a land such as this.
Anyone is welcome to enter this land, but do any of them leave? Do the acts of Youkai of the past continue or does the population of humans proliferate? What would happen if the rules were broken?
A self-governed land where Youkai find peace. What we know about Gensokyo is seen through the eyes of floating shrine maidens, mages, fairies, and time stopping maids.
Truly it is a different place.
I wasn't really planning on doing any write-ups during the refresher period, but I did anyway. Calling this "Ecology" is using the term loosely, if not incorrectly, but I was trying be fancy. I'm not sure how I feel about this one, but my mind is a bit fried from a certain tiger youkai's "curvy lasers." Still, I couldn't let inspiration go to waste.
EDIT: This was edited once I got my thoughts together. It's not too different, but it flows much better in my opinion.

I sure said that!Only the good characters, minus Komachi, Kasen, Ran and MariRenko
It's a good writing exercise, really. Take a character, write something that illustrates your viewpoint, profit. It's allowed me to write some pretty decent stuff. My Tewi, Medicine and Yamame write-ups are some of the best pieces of writing I've ever done.
And for what it's worth, I like Clarste-style analysis write-ups. It's just that it's easier for me to just write didactic fanfiction.
you'll then have a grave in the clouds where you won't lie too crampedI find it kind of weird that people keep referring to me as a style. I just can't write fiction to save my life.
It is quite odd. I'm not sure when this thread stopped being about talking about things in the usual manner and started being Fanfiction-Prompt-of-the-Day Club.
Well, if there's a trend towards a different style, the "normal" style will inevitably have to be recognized as a style separate from the new one. And I just consider Clarste to be the most shining example of that, because of the way they're written: Focusing on the most important aspect that defines the character, explaining it in a manner that's easy to understand, often using creative imagery. Like the way he explained Yukari's thought processes.
I think a lot of people feel like they have to write entire novels now and are intimidated by having to put so much time into it, but it's also good to just think about it for a while, maybe while taking a walk or doing the dishes or something, just think about what really makes that character that character, and then just explain that somehow.
I'm not gonna go ahead and do elaborate research on when the shift started happening, but I get the feeling that it was when I posted my entry on Koishi, which started blurring the line between prose and analysis, and was pretty heavily emotional.
I saw it, it was about Hina. I thought it was good, though. Why'd you take it down?
Heart of Stone@PULSE: If you want, you can PM it to one of us for some beta-reading, or something. I'm interested, too.
@ Pulse: Hina? My interest has been piqued. I'd like to see this, please.
you'll then have a grave in the clouds where you won't lie too cramped@atserism: I felt that my post was really long and didn't really say a lot.
I sure said that!It involved spinning is all I remember. Therefore, it had a basis in both memes and canon.

I might post a standard one today still, though.
