Voyager episode Fury is up. And oh my god! I think I love his episodes best when he not only says it is a terrible episode but comes up with a massively more engaging plot on the fly to prove it. In this case it is all about Kess' motivations for turning into Carrie at the Prom (or should that Kerry, considering last episode?), and how they could have easily been so much more justifiable with a little thought on the writer's part.

[up]No, Fury was as if Bragga, Pillar and Berman met at the studio commssary and asked (as Sf Debris would picture it):

Bragga: "So we should do a retrospective on Kes, maybe a look back, only this time she's turned evil!''"

Berman: "Yea, she blames the Voyager crew for some reason, I dunno, she's just that pissed off. Be sure to show her next all old and decrepit next to Seven of Nine. We paid money for that new catsuit and corset!"

Pillar: "Shouldn't we have more of a resolution? Kes went out on a good note and Jennifer would be happy to re-visit the character. Kes is a good person, sweet and innocent; it should really take something very bad to make her snap. I dunno how we can make this work without pissing off the fans."

( Beat )

Berman & Bragga (in unison): "You get the fuck out!"

And if Old Kes doesn't go back in time then what triggers young Kes to make the recording?

It's a Voyager Script...thinking is the enemy to be hunted down with extreme prejudice.

[up][up] at least that can be explained by the usual parallel timeline shenanigans, which Star Trek was never consistent about anyway

'Timeless' says only one timeline can exist and all others were erased as soon as a change is made, but whatever influence came from the erased future/past sticks around

i'd be like how in Back to the Future Marty can wipe himself out of existence

I never saw show what have (multiple) time travel stories and it all made sense when you think about it (instead giving your headache).

[up][up]Funny you mention Timeless, because (IIRC), it ends with Janeway telling Harry that the best way to deal with temporal paradoxes is to not think about them.

On happier note, he mentioned SG 1 in November or December. And those are some of my requests!

It's a fair point. Though to be honest, it's even worst in early seasons of Torchwood every EVERYONE is bi and everyone is obsessed with sex.

2 months of economic depression, immolation, and immortality?

are we sure Torchwood is still set in the same universe as Doctor Who?

Yeah that's one of my biggest issues with that show.. just how far it drifts from Doctor Who.

Really wish I could find Sarah Jane Adventures as easily as Torchwood seems to be everywhere... why is TW on Netflix but SJ isn't.

Not sure how but Miracle Day 9 can be found on the site but not the blip side.

I'm not sure about the economic collapse thing, talking it over with a econ professor friend of mine.

[up]Coz that's where your suspension of disbelief breaks right?

To be fair, major events having world wide consequences really fast and then things being back to normal with no long term effects on anyone sort of IS a Doctor Who thing. I can totally imagine the Dr. Who verse having people going "Remember those two months where we were all immortal and the government was conducting random executions on its people - man, that is so last year." and no one cocking an eyebrow at it or it having any lasting impact (like the breaking of society when things are back and people have seen the government will try to kill them all at the drop of a hat).

[up][up]Yep that's where I draw the line.

Actually if one were to think about it, something like that happening would probably put tea-party-esque movements in a pretty solid political position.

i.e. "Small government? Well they won't have the money to put anyone in ovens." i.e. "2nd amendment? Yeah we believe everyone should have the right to shoot any goons coming to your door looking for family members."

Let's face it, anarchy would look pretty appealing after a lot of those stunts (assuming it wasn't already the case).

EDIT: [up] Is it just her? So far of what I've seen a lot of Torchwood seems to suffer from Protagonist-Centered Morality. (I mean, I'll concede I might be missing something but doesn't some of Jack's actions seem... rapey if they were coming from a straight man?)

To be fair. she wasn't like that in the early seasons. Instead she was just mind numbingly bland and boring!

Barrowman is a limited actor. He was originally a parody of macho culture, which is why Torchwood had no clue what to do with him in series one (from what I've read). He's a spoof leading man, not a real one. And his line delivery is just eye-wateringly awful.

This is probably why Miracle Day was such a turdburger, since Jack was deconstructed into a brooding dark character in CoE, and came back bright-eyed and bushy tailed. Sure, he scowls now and again, but there is no observable difference in his personality. All it did was shine a giant light on how poorly Barrowman compares to Matt Smith.

Barrowman himself is a phenomenal actor. Been on the theater for years and has an excellent voice.

Personally I call it the Tennant Effect. Russel running any "serious" stories with Doctor Who (post-9) or a spinoff makes a good actor look shit.

(See: Most of Tennant, John De Lancie IN Miracle Day, 90% of the Torchwood cast, John Simm)

The idea of Barrowman being on stage or the idea that he's really good and Davies and the scripts are to blame?

I got a email reply from Chuck. I requested Star Trek Continues(web series) and Chuck said that he doesn't do fan-created or independent works.
