Apparently, Clover was originally supposed to wear a dress.◊
Then Executive Meddling kicked in and she got sexed up.
Not to mention the promotional game. >_>
re: Aksys - yeah, I always get stuff like that messed up. Who's actually behind the games?
I actually really like Clover's concept art. It's way more adorable.
Chunsoft, I think.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaThe one nice thing about a huge backlog is that it helps the shield you from spoilers of games you're interested in. Especially something story heavy like Zero Escape.
Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft insteadLack of spoilers/Youtube videos/any information of any kind makes me sad...
Makes me happy. I won't run into a spoiler by mistake until the game comes out in America.
Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft insteadIndeed. I am avoiding spoilers like... I generally avoid spoilers, actually, which is with somewhat more intensity than I avoid the plague.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaI, on the other hand, am a Spoiler Hound that definitely appreciates this new information. I admit that foresight on the plot of a Visual Novel may take something away from the experience, but I value character development and how people react to events more than the events themselves.
It's been months since anyone last said anything. @_@
Two things I'd like to bring up:
1. The soundtrack has been tracklisted online. But does anyone know where I could go to listen to it?
2. Why is there a YMMV page for Virtue's Last Reward, but not a Main page? o_o
This game was amazing. Not the kind of thing I'd expect to occupy the very highest spot in my list of favourite games, but there you go. I stayed up all night to finish it on my first playthrough, which was not a good idea in the end, because I got the axe ending and Clover's creepy smile gave me nightmares.
That being said, the true ending was something of a let-down. Not the actual reveal — that was pretty darn cool — but the sort of... "oh, well, everything's okay now!" vibe at the end, plus the WTF moment with madam All-Ice appearing on the side of the road which seemed to be there specifically to silly everything up. It really took away the impact of it for me. A huge part of the game was the creepy psychological tension, and it seemed to totally skim over the fact that these people should be scarred for life and they went through living hell. Instead they drive off into the sunset, and... guh, yeah. /rant. It's still my favourite game though. Hope the sequel is ever betterer!
So. Not sure if this is the right place to ask, or if it's been asked before, but: can anyone recommend to me visual novels or more conventional adventure games with one or more of the following:
- a similar level of interactivity
- in the psychological horror genre
- the same quality of writing and story
- just generally similar to 999 in some way
Any platform, really. Even if I don't actually have it, it might well be the kind of thing that would make me seriously consider the purchase. I am in just that much 999 withdrawal.
Signature? I HAVE NO SIGNATURE.That creepy smile will haunt you forever. Trust me; I know.
As far as visual novels I enjoyed/played, there's:
- Ghost Trick
- Time Hollow
- Phoenix Wright (Kinda counts...sorta)
None of them are particularly scary, though they do encourage in-depth thinking. Ghost Trick will probably be more to your liking, since there is some tension and death. It's closer to 999 than the others, at least.
Note that those are all for the DS XD.
Try Saya No Uta. Ever 17 is written by the same guy who wrote 999.
Thanks for the recommendations!
My avatar is actually from the PW games. Love them to pieces. And I have Ghost Trick, though I've not yet played enough of it to know what I think (though the animations are freaking incredible!).
Time Hollow sounds interesting (I'll certainly look at picking that one up).
Saya no Uta and Ever 17 seem like roughly the kind of things I'm looking for! I had no idea the fellow who did 999 did anything else as well.
Signature? I HAVE NO SIGNATURE.If you're going to recommend Ever17, you ought to mention Remember11 as well.
Be warned though, the ending known to be fairly... polarizing as the producers pretty much ran out of budget at that point. But if you had some issues with 999's true ending and still loved it, you should be fine.
I thought Remember 11's ending problems was cuz of 1 guy wanting to make it more ambiguous and deleting a whole route?
Eh, not to be discussed here. Anyway, yeah, check those out. But Remember 11 isn't written by the 999 and Ever 17 guy.

How did I not recognize Lotta Hart?
Eeeeeeeeeee~
I found the trailer theme!
Pretty music is pretty!
And gahhh, the sequel to 999 is what will probably make me keel over and buy a 3DS. That, along with Professor Layton and potentially that coolio-looking Bravely Default game and Paper Mario and Shin Megami... but honestly, mainly just because 999. It was so good and I miss it.
I cannot do this guys. I am a poor student. Why does Zero Escape do this to me??
EDIT; And, yup! Lotta Hart indeed. She's only one of the coolest characters ever! : D

Signature? I HAVE NO SIGNATURE.Because Zero is an evil person that likes trying to murder people and making people buy the games to see if they live or not.
So, I found this today: http://ask999.tumblr.com/
I'm kinda scared to look at it full-screen since Axe Ending Clover still gives me nightmares, and I have no idea if that picture is on there.
I still sent in some questions, though.
Laura Bailey seems to be in this game. She really gets around in the voice acting business, huh?
Aksys is handling the dub.I won't be surprised if the voice-cast will be comprised of Blaz Blue voice-actors.
The problem is that probably they will go uncredited so we might have to play the guess game to identify the voices.Dio seems to be voiced by Liam O'Brien and Zero seems to be Karen Strassman,no?

I only recognized Laura Bailey's voice, sadly.
Clover sounds like Wendee Lee to me. Alice could be Tara Platt. I've seen people say that Quark is Erin Fitzgerald, but I haven't heard her voice enough male characters to be sure.
yeah,Aksys just handles with the localization of both 999 and Zero Escape(and now will handle the dub of Zero Escape as well))
