XKCD: It's more than a comic:

When you put it like that ... Crowning Moment of Awesome ?
Sex, Drugs, and Rationality

The Torterra Moves!
Today's comic amuses me greatly. grin
"Honesty is the best policy but insanity is a better defense."
That's friggin' hilarious. "Thy druid doth lose two points."
"The secret we should never let the gamemasters know is that they don't need any rules." - E. Gary Gygax

The Torterra Moves!
And I didn't know until it was pointed out to me just now that this manuscript exists.

This makes the comic even funnier.
"Honesty is the best policy but insanity is a better defense."

Do roleplaying manuals written in fictional languages actually exist?

Planescape Hijack
I'd bet the official Star Trek RPG has a version written in Klingon.

Take a look at this and tell me xkcd doesn't rule the internet.
I guess it is.

XKCD got 77 thousand people to look at the article? nice.

edit: well 76k extra views anyway.

Incredibly Awesome Pun.
Sex, Drugs, and Rationality
I want to do an experiment. I want to find an xkcd fan who hasn't read the latest comic yet. I'll tell him the joke, and see if they think the pun is funny when they don't know Randall came up with it.

Not Actually Indie
Eh, I'm a fan of the comic and I thought that one was only mouth-twitch worthy.
...eventually, we will reach a maximum entropy state where nobody has their own socks or underwear, or knows who to ask to get them back.

Anyway, this is the kind of joke that wouldn't work at all out loud. I didn't find it incredibly hilarious written down either, but even if I thought it was the best xkcd EVAR, I probably wouldn't have laughed if someone told me it out loud.

Edit: Note that it could be funny to someone involved in...whatever field of math or science this comic is about. But to most people, even nerdy ones like me, they just wouldn't be thinking the right way to get the pun without thinking about it.

I guess it is.
Fine, then, I'd write it down.

139 Fighteer, Mon, 8th Jun '09 6:32:29 AM from the Time Vortex Relationship Status: Dancing with Captain Jack Harkness
Geronimo!
I did laugh out loud. So Yeah. That may go down as one of the worst puns of all time.

140 Brickman, Mon, 8th Jun '09 7:58:25 AM from wherever adventure takes me Relationship Status: My own grandpa
Gentleman Adventurer!
I didn't even smile.
Your funny quote here! (Maybe)
141 Oscredwin, Mon, 8th Jun '09 11:09:55 AM from The Frozen East
Cold.
Well I love a good pun. I know if I heard the joke an a group of 6+ people I'd laugh, but other people wouldn't. Most people don't like puns that much.
Sex, Drugs, and Rationality
Fell flat for me. I guess all this proves is that people's senses of humor differ, and maybe that XKCD's starting to fall back on questionable puns.

If I had to come up with a joke every other day I'd probably use puns occasionally.

This comic was a groaner, and I support Made Of Meat's experiment. I'd volunteer but I'm not sure how that would work.
144 Oscredwin, Tue, 9th Jun '09 10:50:56 PM from The Frozen East
Cold.
Now I'm generally a fan, but today's was weak. I enjoyed the alt text though.
Sex, Drugs, and Rationality
I agree. I didn't even know that tying a cherry stem with your tongue was supposed to be sexy, so it didn't make much sense until a trip to Echochamber...

146 Sabbo, Wed, 10th Jun '09 6:44:58 PM from Australia Relationship Status: Baby don't hurt me!
I understood the cherry stem reference, but only found the joke as a whole mildly amusing.

THE MEEK
Come on, guys, not even Dinosaur Comics manages to be hilarious ALL the time.

Like, 99%, probably, but not ALL.

Not Enough Gun
Yeah, not one of the better ones, but that Ancient D&D one had me in stitches.
Like Shakespeare, but with more punching
