No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...

I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?

Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

Excuse me, I've been thinking of putting together a page for a rather large piece of 40k fiction called the adventures of the All Guardsmen Party and was wondering if you folks felt it was appropriate.

This is not a story about a group of superhumans striding across the field of battle smiting the foes of the Imperium, but rather the story of a band of doughty guardsmen holding the line and serving as best they can. It is a tale of bravery, stoicism, incompetence, and excessive use of detpacks which follows the guardsmen from their origin in the mud and blood to their rise as one of the premier Inquisitorial teams on the sub-sector. Time and time again the guardsmen fight and triumph over xenos, heretics, and their own incompetent superiors; officially for the glory of the Emperor, but mostly in a desperate attempt to stay alive.

This is at heart a write-up of an Only War and Dark Heresy campaign, but only briefly touches on the mechanics in the first two chapters and it shouldn't be a problem if you do not like or play either game. Be aware that this thing gets rather long in the later chapters and there is a significant tone shift after the prologue.

The entire series can be found in a google-hosted HTML file here:

Or split up into screencaps of the original threads here.

I finally finished the new assault squad Marines I've been working on. This has been a tiresome process and I got sloppy in places I really shouldn't have, but at least they're done. I changed up my scheme on these from the previous assault Marines and I like this more...I may paint over the old ones and update them to this scheme at some point. I also learned something important—the standard two-handed grip on flamers doesn't work well with assault squad torsos because of the added girth from the jump pack harness...I had to do some maneuvering to get them to glue on properly.

Here's the pics if anyone's interested. I'm itching to start the Ironclad Dreadnought but I think I'll go ahead and do the Predator next so I can have some heavy support beyond my Devastators.

Don't look bad, though!

I need to start painting again, may get a bit done over Christmas. My Stompa still needs finished, among other things ...

You know, if (if) the story about the Emperor being the merged product of the dead Shamans, imagine how OP he will be after receiving 1000 souls everyday for the last 20000 years or so.

Have you forgotten the face of your father, troper?

If he had been simply storing the energy? So overpowered, the Chaos Gods may not be able to off him like last time they faced off. Heck, one Original Character that I'm using as The Chosen One for one of my planned stories is created by the Emperor picking one soul out of every 1000 who die per year for the Emperor's sustenance and/or powering-up Astronomican (the official in-universe statistic), and merging those collected souls into one being. The end result after 10,000 years of this? More than 3.6 million souls, fused into a single individual.

But AFAIK, he's expending most of the energy between sustaining his nearly-dead husk and powering up the Astronomican signal (the signal's power comes from the sacrifices, while his mind is the only one capable of focusing and directing the resulting signal).

[up][up] Couldn't the Imperium's psykers/librarians just repeat such a ritual and become a new absurdly powerful champion of humanity?

You assume that they even know about such a thing. Even back when that version of the Emperor's backstory was explained, it was more or less something for us the readers to know about, and for the in-universe Imperials to be completely ignorant about.

[up]Well, it would've perhaps been a good idea for the Emprah to let a few trustees in on the secret just in case, y'know, something happened to him. On that note, maybe that's what's in that little black box the Grey Knights have under lock and key: instructions.

Or maybe even he doesn't remember his pre-natal past. Or he suffered from The Fog of Ages about said past, with the memories becoming vaguer and more metaphorical/allegorical the further back in time he goes.

Or maybe he wants to become an actual god and a new ultra-super-leader would get in the way of that.

You know, I'm watching clips from Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade and I got the idea that the Kerberos unit would be a good look for an Imperial Guard regiment. Just change their guns to lasguns instead of auto weapons.

I've finally started to read the Waaagh! Ghazghkull Codex Supplement and from a quick glance through the major news fluff wise is that Ghazghkull has won the Octarius conflict and the Overfiend has joined the Waaagh! (although the Tyranids are sending in a second wave). Also Ghazghkull has learned how to shift his mind through the warp to contact his forces on other planets.

So the rumor-mill is really confused about what's going to happen after Codex: Necrons. I've seen rumors of a Harlequin supplement (harlequins on jetbikes), Sisters of Battle (mostly blind wishing), Adeptus Mechanica mini-faction, ???. Point is, nobody really knows what's coming next. It sure is fun reading the speculation, though.

[up][up] I'd've gone with Sean Bean, myself.

Spent most of the afternoon magnetizing the turret weapons, side doors and sponson weapons, and ammo containers on my Predator...that was an exercise in frustration. However, valuable lessons were learned for the next go-round.

Simon Pegg or Sharlto Copley as Ciaphas Cain would be too good to pass up.

Pegg's not a good choice. Remember, Cain looks the part of the propaganda; he has the physique and features of a Hero of the Imperium, which is part of what lets him get away with things. He's a good-looking, big, tall, square-jawed hero on the outside.

The Orks beat the Tyranids when and where?

But I think people underestimate the Orks in the setting. War is their reason for being. All that prevents them from conquering everything is their lack of discipline. GW and Ork players like playing up the silliness of the Orks, but they are brutal and lethally efficient at killing and cleverer than one might suppose.
