No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

Test painting was disheartening. The airbrush jammed and experimental brush strokes were hideous. I'm really hamstrung by the fact I can't do any more spraying until I move out in a couple of weeks.
With cannon shot and gun blast smash the alien. With laser beam and searing plasma scatter the alien to the stars.Sorry to hear that. I hope it works out. It's heart destroying when a model project goes wary.
Sorry for double post (hope that's allowed), but I have a Warlord Trait idea. D3 units of Catachan Jungle Fighters gain infiltrate. Note that it's CJ Fs only...no sneaky Ogyrns.
I've incorporated the info in the table on the Space Marine character page into the chapters' folders.
I think the Astartes character page is lookin' really good! Might brainstorm how to convey info about homeworlds and chapter masters later, but right now I'm taking a break. From that page. I have a feeling I'll be going to the other character pages to try and standardize their write-ups into a One-Sentence Summary, Fuller Description of Army, History of Army, and Tabletop Army format. Already did the Guard page like that, maybe it works?
Also, this guy might be a good candidate for the Blood Angels' mini pic. Not that I know how to turn an interactive image like that into a jpeg.
I can't look at that pic right now, but if it's the one I'm thinking of (holding his sword aloft in right hand, chalice in left), I have a still of it saved at home and was considering using it...pics of standard BA Marines are very hard to come by.
The linked picture is the Blood Angels Vanguard Veteran Sergeant.
Which is a good model (gorilla-face notwithstanding), but I think perhaps a regular Assault Marine might represent the Blood Angels line troopers better (though the yellow helmet might be confusing... Then again, the Ultra and the Imp Fist have Company colours on their models).
Alright, I found a good pic of a Blood Angels assault squad◊...having trouble deciding on one, they're all good poses.
I like the one that's second from left, but second from right is actually more... 'normal'. If that makes sense.
I like the second from the left, too...that or the middle one are my favs, mainly for being really different from the others.
I can't find a similar Crimson Fists pic anywhere...I may have to scan those pages in the SM codex to get a decent one.
While I was in the shower I was thinking about Squats, and wow that sentence sounds worse when you say it out loud.
Ahem.
First, thinking about acritae and other hybrid units that combined medium armor, shields, javelins and melee weapons - convey that through some sort of professional unit with disposable rocket launchers. Nothing with the oomph of a proper Missile Launcher, but enough to make a good dent in another infantry unit, and even give light vehicles and monstrous critters pause - except they can only fire twice in a game before switching to standard weapons or sidearms.
Second, shieldwalls. Certain professional Squat squads get combat shields, and if they all get into base-to-base contact, the cumulative effect lets them use the invulnerable save against ranged attacks too. The downside is they can't run while using this, and they can only shoot with one-handed weapons. Wait, they changed the way combat shields work. Ah well, the principle is sound.
RE blood angels pic: I'd say second from right. Looks "typical" for a BA assault marine, and there's a hint of BA emblem on his shoulderpad.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Would the shields be slabs of metal they hold up, or force-field bubbles that Imperials would see as archeotech witchery?
Void shields do exist in the Imperium, you know. Just, not usually on infantry or regular vehicles.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Yeah, Astartes normally use regular shields as in "Big slabs of metal that you hold up in front of you."
There's some power field on the shield itself though, as evidenced by the cables running on its back.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Yes, so if a bunch of dwarfs strode implacably through a firefight warded by invisible force bubbles, the Imperium would probably not be sure what to make of it at first. (And in fairness to them, they exist in a setting where witchcraft is a thing, so really by calling it witchery, they're just considering another potential origin.)
So I was flicking through the WIP subforum on Bolter and Chainsword, and I found this: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286803-scuzzies-conversion-thread-22nd-april-14/?p=3660529
Absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. Mega jealous of the skills there.
Schild und Schwert der ParteiVery nice. I wonder which order of the Sororitas that belongs to?
Madscuzzy is a conversion champion. The Landtrain bike in the same thread is glorious.
Judging from a Sister miniature in an ealier post I'd say the tank belongs to Order of Our Martyred Lady but it has a Chaos Star on it's hatch..
Actually how likely it's for an Order to get Titan support?
I remember reading somewhere that the Mechanicum dictates where a Legio goes, so idk if a single order would do that.
Well, I played around with 1d4chan's SoB Order creation table once and got Adeptus Titanicus as their allies.

That tank is beautiful.
Any other thoughts on the Blood Angel pic?
consider lizard men parts.
Went back to the drawing board with that. The only change I'll make now is a roll of a 1 kills the commissar instead of a Catachan but otherwise everything is the same.
So, special save against jungle mishaps and a small chance to kill the commissar. Job done. Now, time for warlord traits.
