No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...

I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?

Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

It is pretty weird that this "they were always there" retcon with female custodes is drawing more anger than the similar "the leagues of votann were always here". Can't imagine why that would be...

"The Thunder Warriors otoh were easier to mass produce. The Emperor realized even supersoldiers need numbers to win. But the problems with the augmentation process meant the Thunder Warriors were only useful for taking Terra and wouldn't last long enough for anything else.

The Emperors' end goal for supersoldiers were supersoldiers who could handle any challenge thrown at them and be a bulwark against any enemy humanity faced. He wanted soldiers who were good at everything and could be produced in high enough numbers to actually matter on the galactic scale. The Astartes led by their Primarchs were simply the latest attempt. "

I dont think he release that but rather he always knew thunder warrior were a temporary thing to what matters since he didnt have the materials at hand to create space marine yet. the Primarch since to be his ultimate proyect, also if you belive Erda they exist because his perpetual allies abandone him long ago because his tendecy to no take a no for a answer.

The reveal that there had always been female Stormcast provoked a similar reaction if I remember correctly. I don't know if Old World's reveal that there has always been Bretonnian and Empire knights had a similar reaction though.

I do wonder if any models would look particularly different. As far as armour goes only like half the Sisters of Battle have power plates. tongue

Meanwhile, Index announced for the Emperor's Children.

They're very keen to stress that this is just an index and they're not announcing a Codex any time soon.

Probably towards the end of the edition, as with the World Eaters, I would imagine?

@Sebastian Gray: I mean Repanse was certainly a thing, but she harkens from a less serious edition didn't she?

I mean, GW can try and excuse themselves with how Bretonnians knights wear FULL HELMS and shape-obfuscating armor anyway, but even so they still should be fairly rare.

I would think that even the most open-minded and martial of Renaissance-level societies would balk if the majority of their noble daughters would go out gallivanting and possibly getting themselves killed rather than strengthening alliances with other houses or kingdoms.

This kind of thing is what you'd expect the 2nd or third daughters might be expected to do though.

[up]Yeah, Repanse de Lyonesse was the resident Jeanne d'ArchΓ©type but I am pretty sure it was stated in old Warhammer that she was the only woman to fight as a knight at the time. I do like how GW have been doing the retcons like this, simply putting them into the lore and only commenting if people ask.

[up][up]Imperial female knights were a thing for a long time before the world blew up-there was even a woman as the current grandmaster of the Longshanks, the templar order of Taal and Rhya. The background has women described as relatively rare but present in the templar orders going back to at least the second edition of the WRPG.

[up]As far as I am aware, that was only ever in the RPG and never made it into the core game as the last Warhammer Armies book treats them as universally male.

Getting back to 40K, there was also a time when both the Imperial Navy and the Imperial Knights were also inherently biased towards men only for that to be quietly dropped and now both have lots of women in all branches of the organisations. Commissars, however, have always had women in their ranks as far as I know as I remember all the way back in 2nd Edition that there was a female Commissar model that was either unreleased or limited edition.

Darktide is apparently getting a board-game version, populated by re-issues of previously made miniatures. I don't mind, if the price reflects the re-used content. I could have use for the four main character figures, but even more for the Traitor Guardsmen.

So the video game, based on a tabletop game, is getting a board game, which is based on a video game.
