Oh, I just think a life of poverty and utter disappointment would be more interesting then, say, getting a REAL job. It also helps that I have virtually no other marketable skills, other than maybe a day laborer, but I don't really like the sun.

You could do the writing for a sketch comedy show on the radio, along the lines of A Prairie Home Companion.

Since when were there shows on the radio these days? Didn't they kick the bucket with the advent of TV?

Hai.

My common online handle is NulNul, and my real name is Not Important. I'm an Australian male who's currently doing an IT course in TAFE (that's Technical And Further Education). I came across this site one day, while googling fantasy RPG clichés, and you can guess what happened after that.

There's not much else for me to say about myself, except that I like video and computer games. Yeah...

Cool stuff and other stuff is cool I guess.

Your real name is unintentionally hilarious. It must have been hell for your elementary schoolteachers to raise your self-esteem. Sabbo wrote:

You'd think so, but then again AM Radio still goes strong despite being proven technologically inferior to FM. A Prairie Home Companion and some others I can't name off the top of my head are the only radio "shows" left around, really. You have to listen to NPR to catch 'em. They're technically variety shows since they have an awful lot of musical numbers, but the comedy bits are some of the funniest anywhere.

There are people who still listen to AM?

Anyways... It'd be a bit of trouble listening to your AM stations, 'specially since they don't exist where I live. But either way, point taken - AM radio does try to keep with how things used to be it seems these days.

21.5 years old, troper for the last 1.5 of that. English major at one of the shittiest universities on the eastern coast. American. Tends towards moderation in his fandoms and interests: likes anime but is not an otaku; a gamer but not a hardcore one (has still yet to buy a next-gen console); likes baseball but not any other sports. This causes him to straddle the middle: He's a geek to the normal people, but a normal person to the geeks. Prefers Spec Fic, particularly fantasy. (Stuff that "could really happen" tends to bore him.) Cynical. Swears a lot. Likes to complain; doesn't like to compromise. Has a very clear vision of how he wants things to be, and doesn't have a lot of patience for people who don't fit into that. Lazy. Would write more, but eh. More on contributor page if you care.

AM is useful for speech transmission in the US because it travels a long way. I can pick up KGO from San Francisco nights with little trouble (I'm in Springfield, Oregon). More practically, when driving to Portland I can listen to NPR the whole way with only two radio station changes. FM does have a larger bandwidth, so it is more suitable for stereo music. There's only one AM music station here, but a bunch of news/talk/sports stations. Also, almost all air traffic control radio traffic is in AM.

Ahem, now back to newbie introductions!

Oh, fardles! Never introduced myself. Hi!

I'm Korean, if you couldn't tell from the picture. I fold proteins for a living. I have a permanent room in Fast Eddie's house to live in when I'm in the Bay Area. This isn't a problem for his long-time girlfriend and baby-momma because she is prettier than me.

I'm usually in Berne, Swtitzerland, though. Right now, in the Bay Area.

I've been doing tropes for a few months now, just signed up on the forums this week.

I live in the capital of Washington state, and am probably at least ten years older than anybody else here.

As I plugged over in the Webcomics section, I draw a webcomic. Other than that, I practice my slacking whenever possible.

EDIT: And my name is pronounced "gooey-duck".

"Gooey"? But it's spelt g-e-o... I'm confoozed...

And being 10 years older would make you at least mid-thirties, yes? I remember some people saying that they were mid-twenties, so... yeah.

Yep. It's the name of a species of large clam, and it's also a quick way to test if someone is really from Washington state: show them the word and ask them how it's pronounced. (It's spelled the way it is because it comes from a pidgin-language used between the local Native Americans and the arriving European settlers.)

So people from the state of Washington would pronounce it gooey...? I guess you've got reason enough, although I still don't see why it was originally transcribed as geo and not gui or gu'i (or something else to a similar effect). I guess I would probably need to hear it to know.

Does this mean I can go on a gooeylogical dig now? Because that sounds delicious.

Well, that's actually a good description of digging up a geoduck; it's quite a bit of work extracting one from the sand. And they're considered a delicacy by some...

Heh...Sorry 'bout barging in on your nice little conversation 'bout geoducks, and i'll be outta yer way quick after this intro but, aaaaaaaanyway...Name's Breadlord Dragoshi, and I am 255% sure that I simultaneously exist and don't exist at the same time. Anyway, on trivial details about myself, i'm 16 and live in NJ. I've also been readin' up on the Tropes for the past couple o' months and only JUST joined yesterday 'cause i'm a moron. A moron with a lot of free time, but still. I also have a slightly large backlog full of games that i've played over the years. Quite a few of which I have yet to beat. With all that aside, there are a couple o' things that I can thank (and blame) TV Tropes for, such as...

  • Ruining my life (Several times over, of course). And I feel great.
  • Showing me a link to Celebrian in the So Bad It's Horrible Fanfic section of the Wiki, which I promptly read 'cause I could (And i'm somewhat of a masochist. That and I haven't read it in about...3 years or so. And that was only once.). In any case, I actually got a couple of laughs out of it. I don't know why, but maybe it's 'cause I was in a sleep-deprived state during the reading. (Not to say that there weren't parts where I was creeped out of bored to re-tiredness by it either, as there were, but eh.)
  • And...I guess that's it. ...Well, for all that I can think of anyway.

In any case, that is all. And, if this sucked horribly, well...i've been up since yesterday, so there's my excuse.

EDIT: Dangit. I forgot to add something at the end of that one link. Ah well. Fixed it now

Ship, I'm not too sure I'll be able to beat that introduction. 8D;

I'll just write a standard one. Hi, I'm Carth, and I've been a lurker here for far, far too long. I also edit sometimes, but usually anonymously. TV Tropes is, I think, one of the greatest sites ever in the universe- it has articles on stuff I actually want to read about. Not to mention intelligent people. I HAVE FOUND MY HOME ON THE INTERNETS.

My goal in life is to be a writer, which is probably why I like reading the different tropes so much. They give me a better understanding of what and what not to do.

You and Will Wide Web would get along very well. As you see: WilliamWideWeb wrote:

So, while you are a walking contradiction the likes of which would blow men's minds if ever they tried to comprehend your incomprehensibility, he's just agnostic. I'm sure your non-collapsing waveform of potentiality would do wonders for him.

Bah; it doesn't matter whether or not you exist... in fact, if it IS All Just a Dream, then you should make the most of it I say.

Also, shouldn't that link to Brown Note have been to Mind Screw? It makes more sense that way... insofar as anything can make sense.

Ahoy, tropers.

I've been visiting the tropes for a couple of months now after following a Kotaku link to the RPG Cliches list. Just joined the fora today.

I currently reside with my family in flyover country, USA. I have two boys, ages 3-1/2 and 1-1/2. I'm proudest of the fact that the oldest can fire off Bender's catch phrase at a moment's notice and the youngest can do a passable Homer "D'oh" as well as a pretty good Bart-strangulation impression.

I figure a walking Mind Screw qualifies as a Brown Note. I mean, have you tried looking intently at something that simultaneously exists and does not exist lately? That can't be good for the psyche. secretwhistle wrote:

This is possibly the coolest thing I have ever heard.

Boredom forces us to do stupid things....

The name's Sarge, because I have a knack for imitating Gunnery Sergeant Hartman from Full Metal Jacket and I enjoyed the hell outta Red Vs. Blue. I'm a 23 year old university student going after a Toxicology major with minors in genetics and virology. I'm a Linux nerd (Running Arch Linux currently but in the process of switching since it can run like a little fuckwit) with a deeply cynical edge. I enjoy mostly older PC games (System Shock 2, Alpha Centauri, Empire of the Fading Sun, X-COM) though I own a PS 2 and am a bit of Metal Gear Solid fanboy.

I'm mostly on this site for the RP section nowadays, I don't really contribute much to the actual wiki and don't have a page since I hate fighting with formatting.

hi, I'm Dr. Vox. or just Vox if you want.

I stink with introductions, so this will be pretty brief.

I make up my own characters and stories from time to time, so this site's fun for finding the tropes of my own creations, among many other things.
