The layers of abuse that can go on here is precisely why Sarah should be the only one with this power.

I'm pretty sure any character written by Shive would be too self-conscious to abuse it. That we can even say, "the only character who should have it is Sarah" when she's got a libido as strong as Tedd's is proof, in and of itself, of that.

This spell would be much safer in Elliot's hands, but it's ultimately safe with any of Shive's characters because they're written by someone who would sooner cancel the comic and go home than write a scene where it's misused in that fashion.

Well, I am conflicted.

On one hand, the previous NP was far from useless. Not only did it clearly expose Rhoda's motivations and justify today's evolution of her power, it also managed to be on its own both heartwarming, awesome and hilarious at the same time.

On the other hand, today's NP comic did not result in a shrink spell applied to both of them and a subsequent mutual wardrobe malfunction, which was the only logical conclusion authorized by the strict rules of comedic drama. d@rn you Dan Shive! Rules are meant to be followed! Humour is serious business, N*D*D*!!!

Also, @Steve Bat:The layers of abuse that can go on here. I am not sure what would be the problem wit that power, actually. I mean, the entire wold manipulation thingy happens only in the character's head, and most of what happens to the people (at least grace here)in it seems to be only the result of the spellcaster's imagination. So, frankly, no harm done so far. (Unless of course you were refering to the kind of abuse the magic user may inflict upon himself [wink,wink,nudge,nudge,say no more])

Some people don't like being sexually fantasized about, and a lot of people are worried that other people don't like being sexually fantasized about. It's not some huge "I should never use this spell" problem, but if stuff like this keeps happening, Sarah is probably going to ask some questions about her subconscious. Which would hopefully lead to more character development (and OT3?), so yay.

Also note that Grace is not one of these people. "This is one of those things that I'm apathetic about that everyone else finds creepy, isn't it?"

The power does allow sarah to see things she isn't allowed to, as well as the fact that a world where she can do anything she wants with little restrictions might cause a bad habit to develop.

I'm pretty sure Rhoda would have a similar issue, unless she actually has Gag Boobs and is wearing a binder or something.

Under more practical (and still salacious) solutions, waistbands to pants and panties make decent carriers with the bonus that you can set your shirt over them to hide.

You know, I still find it amusing that, outside of seeing things she cannot normally, everything Sarah can do can be done without magic (Though it takes lots and lots of practice). Also she has a dirty subconscious.

Sometimes I read the excessive embarrassment and self-consciousness in Shive's comic and I'm like, "OMG you guys, get over it, it's just boobs."

Then I remember that these characters are teenagers, not emotionally mature adults with a healthy respect and understanding for their own and others' sexualities.

I'm honestly still wondering what exactly Sarah's power is actually useful for aside from potential abuse, but... Wait, why would Tedd's emphasis be ominous?

... Scan the world? This would probably be an active sensor, plus Newton's 3rd law... a giant pulse of magic sweeps over the area, which can be detected or messed with? Or who knows what else?

It is sadly amusing how Shive is trying to set up a cliff hanger when there's only one logical result from this setup that could follow.

During the simulation, nothing changes, but after the simulation is ended...

Yeah, scan the world is what I thought. How much of the world does it scan? Is that why it uses up so much magic? Is there an "edge" like a video game? Or does her mind start making stuff up after a point?

I'm really hoping that this isn't leading up to magical cancer from everyone getting spammed with magic rays...
