Now I'm imagining a companion from the past and a companion from the future going "What's that supposed to be?" at the TARDIS.
Did Jaime and Zoe ever do anything like that?
Oh God! Natural light! The only recent joke I remember along those lines is when Madge(?) mistakes her for an actual police box.
Song of the SirensThere's a reference to an unseen moment Eleven and Clara where they walked into the police box in Earl's Court. And a Sarah Jane Adventures story where Sarah gets thrown back in time, spots a police box and thinks she's got her ride back home, but the policeman inside just looks at her funny and asks if she needs him to call an ambulance.
Fresh-eyed movie blogThat would be kind of funny, but I’d probably write a joke about a future character mistaking it for a transmat booth.
Companion: “You use it to go from place to place, right?”
The Doctor: “How the hell did you know that? You’ve never even been inside!”
Companion: “It’s a transmat booth, isn’t it? They customize them now. The one near my house looks like something called a teeleephin booth from 900 years ago.”

Not Three Laws compliant.IT LIVES!
They said it couldn't be done, but they did it anyway. Shada is finally getting a full release with the original script and the Fourth Doctor intact, but instead of having The Curator a middle-aged Tom Baker standing around in a dusty old museum, we get animated sequences that fill in the missing scenes, while the live action bits are still used when available. Not sure how that's all going to synch together, but it's probably the most complete version of the thing we're going to get.
I think the Big Finish version may still stick in my mind as the strongest version. They really played all the speaking roles large and there was some decent rapid fire dialogue.
That being said, the trailer does do a good job of making it look exciting, if not selling us on the animation-live action hybrid.

Hold on a second, they never got back to those alien brains that were hijacking people's bodies in "Return of Doctor Mysterio". The way they left that open, we were all pretty sure that was going to be A Thing in this past season.
Fresh-eyed movie blogIn fairness, the fact that the Doctor was clearly bored to tears by their big "we'll be back" speech should've been a tipoff that we're probably done with Harmony Schoal until someone gets nostalgic for them in twenty years or so.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Their plan also completely failed and maybe, I don’t know, they attracted the attention of the Shadow Proclamation.
There’s also the possibility the Monks got rid of them. Because the Monks just erased everyone’s memories, they didn’t actually remove everything they’d done and Harmony Shoal seems like it would have been really annoying for the Monks to deal with.
Not Three Laws compliant.I think the idea was that "The adventure continues" but it's superman's adventure, not the Doctor's.
A big pet peeve of mine for this fandom is that we often mistake world building of the throw away settings for sequel hooks. How long were we obsessed with the creature from Midnight being some kind of secret arc villain!?
I feel the same way about guest stars. I wish I heard less "That's such a cool Companion-type! I wish that character could've gone with the Doctor!" and more "Wow, that's a really strong character the writer created! Really elevates the episode!"
Fresh-eyed movie blogI thought that part of the episode's superhero homage/parody was the whole Superman Stays Out of Gotham idea, so it's deliberate that some guy is off saving the world while the Doctor is doing the same, and the two aren't going to intersect in the future. I liked the episode a lot, but I think it's almost the point that none of the characters, including the villain-race, will ever appear again.
The thing that makes the Harmony Shoal so awkward there is that The Return of Doctor Mysterio isn’t actually their only appearance. They pop up in the Husbands of River Song too. So it ends up looking like they show up as a minor villain in an episode, and then in the next episode (wow, there wasn’t anything between those too, was there) we get information on who they actually are and all that, complete with some degree of a sequel hook...and then they just disappear. There was a degree of momentum, and The Return of Doctor Mysterio wasn’t really a sequel episode to the Husbands of River Song. (I mean, it was literally the next episode, but the themes and tone are pretty different.)
It’s pretty obvious that Moffat really liked the idea and design (it is pretty cool) and decided to reuse them.

One Strip! One Strip!Oh bloody fu—
Let's not start this again, guys.
Oh God! Natural light!Whatever vitriol people have here for the Tenth Doctor he is still, as far as I know, genuinely popular on the whole. Something like this was inevitable as long as Tennant was willing.
Unfortunately.
Just because folks here are often "TENTH DOCTOR BAD!!!!!" note doesn't mean he doesn't get the opportunity to have audio stories if the actors involved are willing.

So you're saying I can't express my genuine displeasure over a certain character? That I can't be honest about it? Is that what you're saying?
At this point you're expressing displeasure over other people liking him, which isn't the same
I loved it when Gatiss was bewildered at the VHS tape...because most late bloomer millenials will be bewildered by the same thing
