This is the thread for discussion of The Order of the Stick plot, characters, etc. We have a separate thread for discussing game rules and mechanics. Excessive rules discussions here may be thumped as off-topic.

Got nothing to add here. Seems a bit of a waste of a page to me, especially with a lot more exciting stuff going on elsewhere.
...is this our first gay character? Might just be because it's late but no one else springs to mind.
Also good on Burlew for acknowledging the whole "gendered insults" thing, especially since if he hadn't I might not have realized how often he does it.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Roy's sister was bi, I think? But yeah, seems like it.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Roy's sister made a comment about going both ways, but it was in regards to being True Neutral.
However, one of the Cliffport cops was gay, as revealed when Elan tried to use his old sexy lady illusion.
There we go, found it.

What matters in this life is much more than winning for ourselves. What really matters is helping others win, too. - F. Rogers.I'd argue there's a line between "character" and "mook", but at least this isn't the first time the comic's acknowledged non-straight sexualities so I guess that's something.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. It's not like this girl really matters any more than the police officers. Unless Bandana is her real name, she hasn't been given on.
I vaguely remember another minor character being gay, but don't quote me on that.
We got more background for this woman in one comic than we did for that Cliffport officer in god knows how many random background appearances. And, y'know, she's in charge of the damn ship the main cast is on, having a heart-to-heart with one of the protagonists. So I'd say no, she's really not.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Maybe you're thinking of when Tarquin met Roy and Belkar in prison, and Belkar told Tarq prison had turned him and Roy gay to explain why Roy was shocked by Tarq's resemblance to Elan?
Or after the Cliffport fight when V caught Nale-disguised-as-Elan making out with Sabine-disguised-as-a-male-cop, and Sabine made a comment to the effect that they'd experimented with her in male form before.
Or heck, speaking of V, s/he and Inkyrius (sp?) could be for all we know, given that their kids are adopted.
What matters in this life is much more than winning for ourselves. What really matters is helping others win, too. - F. Rogers. It's entirely within the realm of possibility that Vaarsuvius is gay.
Damn. Ninjaed by Wryte.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!I was thinking of mentioning V and eir significant other, but "they might not be straight because we don't know their genders" feels kinda like a cop-out. Burying representation like that doesn't help anyone.
Also when Haley couldn't speak there was a voice in her head that was "latent bisexuality" or something to that effect. Just remembered.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Wack'd: The police chief also looked fairly important until he suddenly got murdered.
^^ Oh yeah, and one of her scrambled text boxes was that she kissed a girl once (okay, okay, more than once!).
What matters in this life is much more than winning for ourselves. What really matters is helping others win, too. - F. Rogers.@Wryte: I think the one they meant was when Elan tried his sexy-lady distraction illusion on two guards in Cliffport, and one of them was married and the other was gay.
As far as I remember, it was a nameless one-shot character, little more than a walking punchline.

Yeah. The Chief was not gay as far as I'm aware.
I will be sad if Bandana suddenly dies.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. She can't; she's named!
BTW, someone noticed on the forum that "low self-esteem Haley" gets her own action figure. That made me
^^^ You mean the guy I referenced and linked to in post 30930? :P
What matters in this life is much more than winning for ourselves. What really matters is helping others win, too. - F. Rogers. So, we wont be seeing Haley in revealing outfits anymore?
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."
Unless it becomes scorching hot in the dwarven lands, nope the revealing outfits are out for now.
I love this strip. So many callbacks.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I find it hilarious that the first full-thickness limbs we see in the series are on action figures.
That was an interesting conversation.
One Strip! One Strip!^^ Plastic is always weaker than high level PCs, it has to be thicker to not break when played with.
More seriously, I can kinda see how some would think the latest page was "a bit of a waste", but a) not every page has to be some grand advancement of The Plot(tm) (though this one did give some background on someone who's probably going to have some significance in this storyline given she's in command of the Order's ride), and b) Breather Episode is a thing for a reason.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpI'm just happy to be getting comics some what regularly.
I'm baaaaaaack
You remembered correctly. Edit: Top post!
