Look, in the sky! It's an... airtrain?
I wouldn't want to be in the caboose...
A sci-fi story and a fantay story walk into a literal bar...Well... um... that's... different? (You'd think I'd get used to Sparks and out of the box thinking. )
It really does seem a little obvious in retrospect, but I'll admit I had no idea how they were going to get out of there.
I was assuming there was a small secondary engine in the caboose.

"[A] little obvious in retrospect".
It's like "no ordinary subterranean mecha-narwhal," but from the other side of the fourth wall.
It's the world of airships! Of course the sanctuary cars will transform into air-sanctuary cars! :D

Love the bear's comment. It's also a good indicator of their general intelligence level.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettBeautiful! Simply Beautiful! And I do hope the Caboose levels out soon!.
'May you live in interesting times.'- Chinese curseI was completely surprised by the train going airborne. :) I like it though.
What wonderful whimsy.
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."No wonder the sleeves of monk's robes are so big. It's to keep all the tricks they have up them.
Trump delenda estGiving Sparks sanctuary and an outlet for their energies certainly pays off...
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettAnd that way you get more tricks to gear up the monk army.... via creating the Swiss army knife.
Well here goes nothingI was surprised by the sanctuary cars going airborne, but in retrospect, I feel that I shouldn't have been. The purpose of them is to get the passengers to safety at the sanctuary when there's trouble on, with or along the tracks. But if there's trouble on the tracks severe enough to prevent the train from continuing, using the tracks to get to the sanctuary is probably not feasible either.
Solution: airships.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.The zeppetrain parallels Agatha's unexpected escape by air from the refuge of storms. Martellus is going to start expecting it at this rate.
This is... huh.
Awww, Vi is so cute.
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."Flawless handling of each character.
What a pleasure it is to simply sit back and take in the details here. The Lady M with her back turned to us.
Violetta, who can't hold back the tears.
Zeetha with her vampire grin and cocktails.
Sanctuary indeed.
The first panel had me thinking of Claude Rains and The Invisible Man. I can't quite decide whether Agatha is openly wearing the Heterodyne sigil on her collar. It certainly looks like it could be the trilobite.
The biggest question posed this strip: where did the umbrellas come from?
Somehow I did not expect Agatha to be so clueless about Von Zinzer staying with her. She's believing his grumbles. That she's willing to let him go despite his usefulness is good of her, naturally. She also seems pretty clueless about Vi's feelings. [surprised]
I also like all the action going on in the background, the kissing, the argument between monks and so forth. I suspect there's hidden importance to some of it.
@Westlake, I don't think that's Lady S. in the second panel; her hair is dark, not white. I think she is looking suspiciously at the goggled guy in the first panel though.

Yes, I fear the monks are arguing about Agatha. And this may be the first time Zeetha has been airborne since she got sick and lost her bearings. I wonder if something related to that will happen.
Zeetha was in the airship the circus stole to escape from the battle outside Sturmhalten.
Vi appears to share both Tarvek's distaste for unorthodox methods of flight and his mystery-colored eyes.
I don't know whether this is supposed to confirm to the readers that von Zinzer is trapped in Mechanicsburg (I hope, I hope, I hope!) or set up dramatic irony for when he turns up unexpectedly. Also, would somebody ask about Dimo, please?!
You're right. But she wasn't three katanas to the wind there.
