I'm sure there are all sorts of practical reasons why that wouldn't work (among them, that you can't repair an impalement wound by stitching up the skin around it; there's still a damn hole inside you bleeding out internally), but hey, it's Doc.

Not only is there still a hole inside him, but he was run through, not just stabbed. Unless he has an idea for stitching his back, this is basically a pointless gesture.

Technically there's a lack of precedent for sapient non-human species, so prejudice against them could be classed as racism.
