If it was Pompeii, I don't think she could have escaped in time. Of course, I'm assuming here that she needs to breathe.

Pompeii was AD 79. The fire of Rome was 64.

I'm not sure how worried she is about escaping since she is clearly on fire in the last panel.

Maybe she hasn't realized she's on fire yet. It's just the end of her toga.

She already seems to be immune to stabbing. Given how unconcerned she is about the blaze and her confidence that Coyote can't stop her from doing what she wants she seems to be more or less invulnerable.

Either way, I'd think that getting out of the way of a huge cloud of ash that's going to dump all over your town would be a priority for someone as heavy as Jones.

if, you know, she was in Pompeii. Which she's not. She's in Rome.

She could dig her way out.

Or you know, use her built-in jetpack.

To be honest, I'll be disappointed if Jones predates the human race.

I believe the built in jetpack comment is an allusion to the theory that she is a robot.

Robots have built-in jetpacks.

My theory? She's Pygmalion's creation - and he was one of the founders (if not inspiration) for the modern Court.

Tomorrow's strip will prove if my wacky theory's correct.

Yeah, Jones predating the human race would be kinda silly. Unless being the seed from which humankind has grown or something like that is actually the point of her character. But that seems like a little much, even if she's an important character who gets a chapter devoted to the question of what she is.

So, Jones is Eve, then?
