I thought Hinata vs. Pain was more awesome then sad, especially in the anime, where she almost freed Naruto and she just kept on getting up.

It was awesome in Hinata's determination, and sad in that it was practically futile in the end. Had Naruto gone into Heroic BSoD catatonia instead of being overwhelmed by Unstoppable Rage, Pain would've won handily.
