- Awesome Music: "Maps", "Zero," "Gold Lion", "Heads Will Roll", "Dull Life", and "Sacrilege".
- Big-Lipped Alligator Moment:
- "Sacrilege". The gospel choir at the end clinches the "What just happened?" feeling some people can get listening to this song.
- The cover of the song's parent album, Mosquito, can also come across as this due to how bizarre it is (a giant mosquito carrying a crying CGI baby) and how unrelated it is to the album's content.
- Epic Riff: A few can fit this, and the intro to "Gold Lion" is very similar to the Epic Riff from "We Will Rock You".
- Fan Nickname: The self-titled EP is sometimes called "Master" due to Karen O's necklace on the cover.
- It's Popular, Now It Sucks!: Again, Rock Band didn't help this, but considering how "indie" the band started out, this likely happened well before that.
- Nightmare Fuel:
- "Y Control"'s video, showing a group of kids engaging in violent and disturbing acts.
- The ending of "Heads Will Roll" counts, too, when the werewolf that was dancing with the band not too long ago suddenly attacks them.
- Refrain from Assuming:
- Many people think their biggest hit, "Maps", is called "They Don't Love You Like I Love You".
- Also applies to "Heads Will Roll", which many think is called "Dance Till You're Dead".
- Signature Song: Either "Maps", "Gold Lion", or "Heads Will Roll".
- Tear Jerker: The video of "Maps". Karen ends up crying while she sings—unsimulated, even. This happened because her (then-)boyfriend was supposed to come to the video shoot and wound up being 3 hours late while Karen was just about to leave for tour. Their relationship was already on a low point, so the fact he showed up very late just as she was about to leave and the song having that theme, well, wouldn't anyone cry?
- Theiss Titillation Theory: All over some of Karen O's outfits.
