- Broken Base: Like with The Man of Steel, whether the Post-Crisis Krypton is better or worse than the Pre-Crisis version depends on who you ask. Most don't have any problem with Val-L considering that there were plenty of similar characters in pre-Crisis canon, but detractors are critical of the reduced focus on Jor-El and Lara.
- They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Again, for many the Post-Crisis Krypton is not nearly as interesting as the Pre-Crisis version. Eventually most of the Pre-Crisis elements returned and Superman: Birthright would replace The Man of Steel as Superman's origin meaning the second volume was no longer canon.
- Values Dissonance: While it helps highlight the alien and emotionally sterile culture of Krypton, some may find Jor-El's Stalker with a Crush attitude in John Byrne's reimagining to be more creepy than romantic.
